Highline Construction & Interiors specializes in residential and light commercial projects which are complex, innovative or otherwise exacting. When you work with us you can expect that everyone from the sales, project management, interior design, and production staff will go above and beyond to exceed your expectations and deliver what we promise.

"We used Highline construction for a remodel of the main floor of our home. It was a complete remodel of 1450 square feet that included a full new kitchen, 2 full bathrooms, removal of a wood burning fireplace and installation of a gas fireplace in a different location, and generally reconfiguring the whole layout of the space. Highline came recommended to us from our architect. Trevor and his team worked hard to get an accurate plan for the whole project at the start, and once the project started they were able to to stick very close to that plan. We were lucky to not encounter any major issues when they tore into the walls and we finished almost exactly on time and on budget. We found them to be easy to work with throughout the project, when we knew exactly what we wanted they found a way to make it happen and when we weren't so sure how we wanted to handle a particular detail they helped come up with a solution that worked for us. They were easy to communicate with throughout the project and very responsive to any concerns we had along the way. We lived downstairs during the renovation, and every worker was respectful of us living downstairs during the process. Our finished home is beautiful and just what we wanted. We had a great experience using Highline Construction and highly recommend them for your project."

I have over 30 years experience in all aspects of finish carpentry and vintage home and furniture restoration. I do not have employees; just me. Finding creative solutions to solving problems is one of my strong points. I am available for sub-contracting. I prefer to do work on a cost plus basis for home owners.

"I worked with Julie. Delightful, intelligent, and kind. That being said, I've had several issues, and feel she was in it for the commission. She neglected to order the wires to connect the blinds to an A/C power source. It takes twelve AA batteries for each blind. I have three. The wired connection was a must. When she came to measure my windows for the blinds, she wore heavy, clunky boots inside. Shoes are not allowed. I just decided to suck it up. However, the second time she came into my house, Wally was here installing the blinds, she again wore her boots inside. Walking past everyone else's shoes for a second time. She lacked the courtesy to remove her shoes. I have hardwood floors and hate the dents left by her footwear. Inconsiderate. Jean Luc is the savior. His professionalism is amazing. The blinds themselves, well two have been replaced due to poor manufacturing. A third one is not good and Jean Luc is coming tomorrow to check what is the best way to remedy the issue. I am sure there are people here who are excellent at what they do. I read reviews about Julie and they are amazing. My experience with her was bad. I feel Lorraine's Window Coverings is a great place. I wish I had the experience others did. Lorraine has not reached out once. I spoke to her briefly on the phone during the installation. I asked for her to call me back, but she had Julie reach out. Probably hoping Julie could make it better. Julie was unable to smooth it over. In my opinion. Lorraine should have followed up personally. Because she has not, the 2-star review I would give becomes a one-star."

Closets questions, answered by experts

DIY is possible for basic designs. Professional services ensure proper construction and space optimization.

Different types of closets are defined mostly by size. A few different types of closets include:

  • A reach-in closet is a smaller closet that you can stand in front of and reach everything inside it. Aside from the size, the doors and the level of drywall finish are typically the largest price factors.

  • A walk-in closet can be anything from a small 5-by-5 feet closet that has a narrow walkway with shelves on both sides to a 100 square foot bedroom-sized closet with shelving along the walls and plenty of room to move around in.

  • A built-in wardrobe often does not have a door and leaves the clothes and other contents open to the room, whereas a closet usually has a door to separate it from the rest of the room.

Some features and upgrades you can add (some of which increase the closet’s value) are: modular shelving, motion-activated lighting, climate control, custom lighting, cigar humidors, revolving shoe racks, jewelry shelves, custom woodwork, and built-in laundry hampers. While only truly luxury closets have all of these, many custom closets have at least one special feature listed above.

Yes, books are typically heavier than clothes, unless you have a collection exclusively of paperbacks or comic books. That’s why packing lots of books warrants careful planning and consideration. Consider packing up your reading collection first to determine whether you need to downsize it before loading it into your moving truck.

If you’re on a tight budget, the least expensive material you can buy for DIY closet shelves is chipboard, a.k.a. particle board. This inexpensive material is made from a pulp of sawdust, resin, and glue that’s pressed together under high temperature and pressure. As you can imagine, it’s not very sturdy and might buckle under your blue jean collection, so you should only use it if you’re storing very light items.
