"I selected Side-Pro because they were the most professional, direct and honest of the contractors I interviewed. The gentleman who reviewed my home and the work that needed to be done used no pushy sales tactics, came up with quotes for several different options and price tiers, and was actually informed and experienced regarding the work to be done. This standard held for every person I met from their staff, from the office to the on-site contractors. Everyone was responsive, friendly and very helpful. My house was completely sided in Hardie Plank, fully up to Hardie's specifications, replacing some aging LP recalled planking and T1-11, along with correcting several emerging structural issues, including a completely rotten corner. The planks are straight, the seams perfect. The paint crew was incredibly fast and had the whole house done in a day, even coating all around, and only a few touchups found in the final walk-through. The only issue that arose with the project was due to a miscommunication between two crews trading off the siding project, which Duane immediately set about correcting without my even having to ask, let alone having to argue with them. My home looks fantastic, and I can't recommend them highly enough!"

"The contracted the work off to a third party. Jon took longer than expected. The windows was installed pretty good from the looks. Communication could have been better with knowing the job will take longer and what types of trims I wanted for the windows. As the contractor that was hired for this job by this company. Did a good job with putting up decent trim. As for the new windows they look great. I purchased the myself and hired sentri homes to install them. I will need to have a my siding on my house redone to be closer to the new windows so the gaps are not so obvious. That was not expected at first. But from old storm windows and not knowing how they were put in originally. There was some unknown things that was learned from the job being completed. I will have the siding of the house slightly done to match really good for what I wanted later on. My only concern is better communication with sentri homes. Overall they were great when I did talk to them."

"We wanted to get the work done before the weather broke down. We had to wait until the end of August, about 5- 1/2 weeks. Rudy had us scheduled for August 28th but bumped us to the 31st because of delays getting supplies. (This puzzled me because he knew the job was coming up so why not have things ordered and delivered earlier?) He experienced some problems with the old shingles and the amount of adhesive used previously and did a temporary fix with the flashing for the porch roof areas. He came back 10 days later on September 10th with more shingles to finish and properly step cut the flashing down the angle of the front porch roof line and shingled over the flashing to the wall. He wasn't able to exactly follow suit on the back porch but the flashing and caulking work modifications he made appear to be sound and will keep the water out. It was very difficult for him to cut into the ship lap siding. But, he succeeded. His finest work was the chimney cap and flashing collar with mesh to keep the critters out and a rain cap. When I had questions, Miriam was fairly prompt to get back in touch with me either by phone, email or text. Aside from a little sloppiness (found an empty caulking tube in my hydrangea bushes, instructions for the rain cap installation in a flower bed and found some dropped roofing screws in a parking area that could have led to a tire puncture problem but hasn't to my knowledge), I am very satisfied with the help we got from the very capable Rudy and Miriam in the front office. And relieved to have this done before facing another wet Northwest fall and winter."

Siding questions, answered by experts

Some homeowners use caulk on the edges of clapboard siding to help seal it. However, this method invites new problems. With so many gaps sealed, clapboard siding is often unable to drain properly and moisture from rain or other sources can build up inside. This can lead to rot and other issues over time. When repairing clapboards, it’s best to avoid caulking the final product. The exception is trim around windows and doors, which should be caulked to avoid moisture problems.

Steel and aluminum are two types of metal siding that are commonly used for residential and commercial buildings, but the materials have specific differences. Typically, steel is heavier and sturdier, fending off scratches and dents, while aluminum is lightweight and more prone to damage. Cost is another differentiating factor, as steel is more expensive than aluminum siding cost.

Not wrapping a house before installing siding can lead to moisture intrusion, rot, mold, and even higher energy bills. Older houses may have siding installed without wrap underneath, so it’s a good idea to add a wrap layer when it comes time to replace old siding to prevent potential damage from water intrusion—local codes may even require it, so check with your municipal building authority.

Vinyl is the most common shingle siding due to its rigid PVC design, longevity, affordability, and ease of installation. The next most popular types of shingle siding are fiber cement, which is in the mid-range for prices, and cedar shake, which is the most expensive. Consider the upfront cost, ongoing maintenance costs, and durability in your specific climate before deciding.

Hardie board is more expensive than vinyl siding. Vinyl siding costs $3 to $12 per square foot, on average, with cost skewing toward the lower end of that range. Hardie board siding costs $7 to $18 per square foot, depending on the style, color, and trim. However, it lasts twice as long and often looks nicer, meaning you’ll see a higher bump in your home value and greater curb appeal from Hardie board.
