"I contacted All Systems Electric Inc. to tap a new 220v hot tub power-box and hot tub installation and they got back to me super fast with a great quote. I told them I was having a concrete slab poured and they made sure to come out before it was placed to lay wire so the power could come up right under the hot tub. It works perfectly and looks great, no line running over the pad. Super satisfied with their work. Timely responses, fair quotes, clean-good looking work. I have them saved in my phone as "My Electrician" now. Will use them again when I need electrical work done."

"I am extremely pleased with my services from Tripped Electric. From working with their administrative staff (Tessa) on scheduling, to the 4 electricians who worked at my home (Jacob, Skyler, Marcus, and Justin) -- this business could not be better at what they do or more professional. I would 100% work with Tripped again for any of my electrical needs."

"Aaron is skilled, reliable and just a really good guy. He went out of his way to make time for a project that had to be done quickly, showed up when he said he would, and did excellent work. I had him back to do another project, and it was the same: nice guy doing solid, precise work and prioritizing safety. I'd trust him with anything electrical in my home and know that it was done right."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

The key difference between a circuit breaker versus a surge protector is that circuit breakers shield your entire electrical system from overcurrents and faults, while surge protectors defend your electronic devices against voltage surges and spikes. A circuit breaker interrupts the flow of electricity in a circuit when it detects an overload or short circuit, protecting the wiring from damage and preventing fires. In contrast, a surge protector shields electronic devices from voltage spikes, such as those caused by lightning strikes or power surges, preventing damage to the device’s inner mechanics.

If you need to run a wire from the meter to the breaker box, start by turning off the power using the main switch to avoid injury risks from live wires. Then, locate the ground wire from your meter and connect it to the ground bar of the breaker box. Connect the neutral wire using the same method to improve your circuit efficiency.

Next, locate the hot wires running from the main switch to the meter. To connect them to the correct terminals from meter to breaker, unscrew the nuts of the breaker hotwire terminals, insert the positive hotwire, and ensure it’s firmly attached. Finally, secure the wires with electrical tape and wire tie cables before re-securing your breaker box. Keep in mind that this process can be dangerous, so don’t hesitate to hire a local electrician.

Light switches can last for decades when installed and maintained correctly. Improper wiring, heavy wear and tear, or too much wattage draw can cause light switch failure long before the expected end of a light switch’s life. Light switches that are hot to the touch, making a buzzing noise, or failing to work consistently should be inspected to find and repair the underlying cause.

Baking soda is an effective fire reduction method. However, flour and baking powder are very dangerous around flames. Flour is flammable and it can also conduct electricity. The combination can cause serious injury from electrical shock and worsen the situation by adding fuel to the fire. Baking powder is also not an option as it's also highly flammable.

The most common type of electrical outlet is a 3-prong outlet, which has two flat blades (one is wider than the other) and a round grounding pin. Older homes typically have 2-prong outlets that aren’t as safe as more modern options and are generally not up to current electrical codes.  Other outlets you can find in your home include 20A, 125 volt varieties for larger appliances like refrigerators or washing machines.

There are also GFCI outlets, which protect against electrical shock in wet areas, such as bathrooms and kitchens, and arc fault circuit interrupter (AFCI) outlets, which protect against electrical fires caused by arcing.
