"My wife was driving our 1999 Volvo. The cooling light came on and there was an odd smell in the car. She pulled in a parking lot and called me and AAA to have it towed to Turn Key Auto Service. We had used them before. They had treated us well. They have always showed real concern for us, repaired our car promply and charged us a fair price.  They got right on it. They had the heater coil replaced in no time. We left the car at thier shop over the weekend to let the carpet dry. we picked it up Monday. We could not be more pleased with the job they did. I don't think we will ever take our car anyplace else!

"The guy that came out and talked to me is really my go to. He gave me 4 different options like heat pump or just replacing. I learned more about my gas furnace and everything else in the house while he was getting information for the bid. I didn't even go to a second person. I didn't even get another bid after talking to this guy. They can use the existing ductwork from my furnace. They were part of the electric utility. They do all kinds of HVAC stuff. They've been around for a while. They started out as kind of a utility and now they aren't doing the utility work anymore. They will just check on anything you need. There's a 15% discount, which is big when you're looking at getting new furnace and air conditioning. Totally professional. Very knowledgeable. Very security conscious. Showed me his badge and everything. He sat in my garage and did the contract and talked about dates and everything."

"Shimon did a great job and was very pleasant to work with. We encountered an issue with the dryer vent being difficult to locate, and then when we found it there was an issue of getting to it. Shimon, however, quickly came up with alternatives and ultimately a solution. Thank you!"

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

If your central AC is not blowing cold air, you should try resetting the system. Many systems have a reset button. Make sure your thermostat is off, then turn off the circuit breaker that powers your AC. Hold the reset button for three to five seconds, then turn the circuit back on. Set your thermostat to cool and choose a temperature cooler than the room. Your system should turn on quickly.

During the summer, it’s best to set your AC to 78 degrees when you’re home and awake, according to the Department of Energy (DOE). For better energy efficiency, raise the temperature slightly to 85 degrees while you’re out of the house. The National Sleep Foundation advises lowering your thermostat to between 60 and 67 degrees when you’re asleep.

It is possible to add air conditioning to an older home, but it can be very expensive to do so. Expect to pay anywhere from $6,000 to $17,000 or more for the ductwork and AC unit. You’ll also have to hack into the home’s walls and ceilings to add ductwork, which can impact the aesthetics of an old home.

A power outage can damage your air conditioner, just like a power surge can damage any electrical device or appliance. In most cases, your circuit breaker or built-in surge protection on your AC unit protects your AC and just needs a reset. But in other cases, it might be that your AC compressor or capacitor was blown during the power surge. You’ll need to have an HVAC professional repair or replace any AC parts.

While an air conditioner can temporarily run with a dirty filter, it is not recommended as it will not work efficiently. A dirty filter forces the system to work harder to circulate cool air, leading to reduced airflow, increased wear and tear, and higher energy bills. This added strain can cause the air conditioner to overheat or fail prematurely. Furthermore, a clogged filter may allow dust and dirt to accumulate in your ductwork, negatively impacting air quality. It is more cost-effective to clean or replace filters regularly than to pay higher utility bills and risk needing to replace the entire AC unit.
