"My experience with Kyle at Back Country Counters goes WAY BEYOND any 5-Star rating. My bona fides: I gutted and completely remodeled my 1948 home in 2005-2006. I did most everything: framing, drywall, electrical, tiling, plumbing etc. I did hire a few very good tradesmen in some of these areas to lead the way and then I finished. Enough said. Since my Covid cut-back mandated retirement my wife & I took on numerous projects to upgrade and maintain our home so that we can live out our years here. At 67 years old, it became apparent to me that I can no longer do things that I used to do. Finding competent, knowledgeable trustworthy tradesmen has been a frustrating near fruitless expedition into incompetence. I HATE going to Home Depot, Loweâ s, etc; and having forgotten more than anyone working there will EVER know about home repairs and construction! Apparently this same lack of skill sets holds true in our over worked, over priced construction/remodel industry. Nearly everyone I talked to charges confiscatory immoral prices, spends months fitting and piece-mealing you into a job that should take only 1/10th the actual contracted labor time! For this job, all I needed was someone (ANYONE) to cut a larger hole in my quartz counter top so I could install a larger top mounted sink! EVERYONE I called wanted to send their â expertâ and talk to me about buying and installing new counter top(s)!!! For the very first time in a year and a half, this did not happen with Back Country Counters. I found them through Home Advisor/Angieâ s List and Back Country Counters responded immediately. When I talked to the receptionist she assured me Kyle could do the job. I was skeptical (you can see why). Not only did Kyle show up on time. He actually measured the REAL dimensions of the sink for the numbers needed & didnâ t rely on the generic template (TRUE craftsmanship). He removed all the existing plumbing, cut the new hole, removed the old under-mounted-sink, placed the new sink in place to be plumbed and then completely cleaned up the mess! He then came back and re-leveled our split counter top that was not correctly installed back in 2005 and repaired numerous scratches and nicks. He finished off by completely cleaning and polishing our counter tops to as-new condition and then rather humbly educated my wife and I on the proper care & maintenance for the counter and also the new stainless sink! The last thing he did that second day was bail me out of a MAJOR catastrophe that one of the â contractorsâ completely screwed up. The tile guy over tiled the bathroom wall so that the toilet in my $22K remodeled bathroom couldnâ t be installed - there was NO room! I measured out the distance needed, drew the vertical line and Kyle cut the tile & removed them so I could repair the drywall. This was a critical cut. Itâ s extremely difficult to cut existing tile in place using a dry cutter and NOT chip the remaining tile. It takes a lot of patience and concentration. He did this in a dark bathroom while I held a Shop-Light in one hand and a Shop-Vac in the other. Itâ s like heâ s got the hands of a surgeon and the eyes of an eagle. If it werenâ t for Kyle I still would NOT have (at this writing) a working toilet after 3.5 months. The contractors have been near worthless. If I hadnâ t have done this, it simply would still not be done! Oh, yeah..., and did I mention that he did ALL OF THIS WORK over two days with a total labor time of under 5 hours - driving two hours each way! Itâ s a sad state of affairs when the /contractor industry is SO dysfunctional that finding a fair, honest, hard working contractor with communication and CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS makes you want to drop to your knees in prayers of gratitude! Thank you Kyle & Back Country Counters for being such a rare and exceptional find!!!  Bill - Stanwood, WA"

"Near Me Roofing Company was a pleasure to do business with. They had previously done 2 of my friends roofs and had gotten rave reviews from them. very helpful in helping us choose the right roof tiles and had them delivered promptly. The actual job took about 4 weeks, which was faster than they said it would take. I highly recommend this company, they are professionals in every way! The roof looks great, as well."

"Hadrian did a great job replacing a tile job by a defunct contractor. Now it looks like it should have looked the first time. Good communication and price was fair. Very happy with the results."

"Initially we were very happy with the work done. Part of the agreement was to move some eco-blocks to a convenient place so that we could finish our landscaping. The workers had completed work with the excavator and had moved it out of the yard while the eco-blocks were left against a tree in the middle of the side yard. When I told Hector the Project Manager that they had to be moved he told me that they couldn't get the excavator back in but we could wait for the dirt road behind my house to dry out and they would come back and move them. So, when it was dry I called and asked them to finish the job but they don't answer my calls and won't call back. These guys are happy to tell you what you want to hear to sell the job but may not deliver. Beware."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

As long as you follow the instructions on your peel-and-stick tile packaging, it should not damage your walls. A possible instance when you may accidentally damage your walls is if you install tiles improperly using additional adhesives that aren’t recommended.

Also, you can damage your walls if you’re not careful when removing tile. For example, you could accidentally make holes in the drywall with a paint scraper if you don’t heat the adhesive long enough before trying to pry it off.

Installing kitchen countertop tiles on a mold and moisture-resistant cement backer board is one of the best options. When fitted correctly on top of a plywood base, it’s stable and long-lasting. Old-fashioned cement board is economical, cuts neatly and easily with a circular or jigsaw, and screws into plywood without any difficulty.

Glass tiles are among the most difficult to install. This is because their transparency makes the adhesive visible, and any imperfections on the opposite side are also likely to be visible. Glass tiles also must be handled carefully during installation, as they are prone to scratching. For these reasons, glass tiles often require professional installation to get the most out of their beauty and unique look.

The rule tells you how to cut tile to install it in a corner. The 3/4/5 rule recommends that you should have 3 feet across on one straight line, four feet on the other perpendicular line, and 5 feet of length from the end of one of the lines to the other. You’re making a right triangle with the tile, and the hypotenuse (the line across from where the 3-foot lie and 4-foot line meet) should be 5 feet long.

Tiles last for around 100 years or more. Tiles on backsplashes can last even longer since they’re less likely to crack under foot traffic or from accidental drops, but even tile in high-traffic flooring can last a century or more with proper installation and upkeep. Porcelain tiles are denser and stronger than standard ceramic tiles, so they’ll last longer, often pushing past the 100-year mark.
