"Bruce and Seth did an excellent job painting my house from prep to paint to clean-up. They not only paint, but do needed repairs as part of the prep work. Most painters just paint and move on. Bruce gives a warranty on his work, and his price is very reasonable. I plan on hiring them next year to paint another house. I recommend using Bruce W. Nichols Painting whole heartedly. Small jobs welcome

"Susan Gaudet and crew did an excellent job painting the interior of my house in preparation for showing the house to sell. Their work was of the highest quality and as promised in the initial survey. Susan Gaudet and crew were also very amicable, personable and a pleasure to have on the job. Her quote was also the most competitively priced while still providing the requisite quality of service. I was very pleased with the results and would have She Paints do another job for me in the future."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

The easiest way to tell if a wall is load bearing is to check if it’s an exterior wall or if it runs perpendicular to the joists above and below it (or parallel to beams). Exterior walls are almost always load-bearing, and walls that run under beams or parallel to them are also usually load-bearing. There are exceptions to these rules, and walls that don’t fit into these categories can still be load-bearing. If you’re unsure, hire a structural engineer to look at your home to assess whether or not the wall is structural.

You can drywall an unheated garage because the material handles cold temperatures perfectly well. There are no risks or downsides to installing drywall in a garage that is not heated, and the material stands up to moisture and other elements quite well. Drywall will protect your unheated garage's electric wires and cables and add fire protection. However, for effective bonding, you should install drywall at a temperature of 55 degrees Fahrenheit or higher.

While every home has its own unique needs, ceiling drywall installation typically follows a staggered or stepped pattern to enhance structural integrity and reduce the visibility of seams. Starting from one corner, sheets are placed perpendicular to the ceiling joists, with the ends of adjacent sheets meeting along the center of the joist. The next row begins with a half sheet, ensuring joints don't align vertically. This alternating pattern, combined with proper taping and mudding, creates a seamless appearance and strengthens the ceiling structure, minimizing the risk of cracks over time.

Whether you need drywall anchors depends on your specific project, particularly where you are hanging an item. Drywall anchors are not necessary if you can drive a screw directly into a wooden stud behind the wall, as the stud provides sufficient support. However, since studs are not present everywhere in a wall, you will need to use drywall anchors if you are hanging an object in a location without a stud. For very lightweight items, picture hanging strips can also be a suitable alternative.

You do not need to drywall over most types of garage insulation. However, doing so can increase noise reduction, make the space more attractive, and keep children and pets from touching harmful fiberglass insulation. If you’re using cellulose or some other type of blown-in insulation (fiberglass and mineral wool are common), you will need drywall to contain the insulation material.
