"Bruce and Seth did an excellent job painting my house from prep to paint to clean-up. They not only paint, but do needed repairs as part of the prep work. Most painters just paint and move on. Bruce gives a warranty on his work, and his price is very reasonable. I plan on hiring them next year to paint another house. I recommend using Bruce W. Nichols Painting whole heartedly. "Pro is an important part of their name, and they live it! Protech Environmental is a top notch contractor. We hired them to safely remove vinyl flooring that contained asbestos, after we found them on the WA state Labor & Industries Certified Contractors List. Use this list in combination with Angi before you have any asbestos remediation done. Protech's bid was the lowest bid we received, but that was not the only reason we chose them. Each time we contacted them, they responded within a few hours. We sent Protech and the other bidders questions about their plans for the job, including their workers' vaccination status (they are all vaccinated), how long the work would take, and other things. They responded promptly and completely, and came to the house in advance of the work to make sure they knew exactly what we needed. On the day of the job, they called us several hours before they were to begin, to tell us they had to deal with an equipment problem and would be here about an hour late. They weren't that late, only about 40 minutes. Once they began, they worked efficiently, finishing the work in less time than expected. An important part of asbestos abatement is the clean up at the end of the project, and they did a wonderful job. They did a great job of removing their barriers with only a few spots where their tape took small amounts of paint from the walls. Any staples were removed and the woodwork was not harmed. We are very pleased with Protech's work. We will recommend them to anyone we know and the next time we need a contractor we will look at them first to see if they offer the services we need."

Small jobs welcome

"Susan Gaudet and crew did an excellent job painting the interior of my house in preparation for showing the house to sell. Their work was of the highest quality and as promised in the initial survey. Susan Gaudet and crew were also very amicable, personable and a pleasure to have on the job. Her quote was also the most competitively priced while still providing the requisite quality of service. I was very pleased with the results and would have She Paints do another job for me in the future."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Wet-sanding and dry-sanding each have pros and cons. Dry-sanding is less messy, so it’s a good option if you’re trying to minimize dust (for example, if you’re sanding an occupied home or working with particularly dry or dusty drywall mud). However, dry-sanding is quicker because you don’t have to keep rinsing a sponge or wait for it to dry before painting.

Textured walls are a great way to hide imperfections left over by drywall installation, but many homeowners feel like it’s an outdated look, despite there being so many types of drywall texture. And while the textured walls of today are a far cry from the popcorn ceilings and faux stucco of our grandmother’s homes, if you want a more modern look or you want to install wallpaper, it’s time to smooth out your walls.

Yes, a fan can help drywall mud dry faster by improving air circulation and reducing humidity in the room. Drywall mud dries through evaporation, so increasing airflow speeds up this process. However, you should position the fan to blow across the room rather than directly on the wet mud. This helps prevent drying too quickly, which can cause cracking. You should also use a dehumidifier if high humidity is an issue.

Yes, walls on the top floor can be load-bearing if stacked on the floor’s foundation.

Some painters will repair minor drywall damage. For repair work of any kind, it’s a good idea to hire the professional required for the job. Many painters will have the materials on hand and can add them to the total cost. While you may save some money, there is a chance the work will be subpar compared to a professional who specializes in drywall.
