"Very quick response! He gave me an estimate on the spot, some negotiation, and I agreed. That was Friday, fence posts installed on Saturday and fence completed on Monday. I am thrilled! Amazing to work with and I will definitely work with him in the future and refer them to friends and family! Very satisfied!"

"We recently bought a house in the N. Cascades with 1 acre of property teaming with deer, elk, coyotes and even bear. We needed a fence to keep our dogs in, wildlife out, with protected space for gardening AND no loss of views on all 4 sides. We thought we would end up with an ugly chainlink fence. But Marcelino, the owner of PG Landscape, built us a strong metal wire fence with a beautiful wood frame that met all our needs PERFECTLY! He helped us create a plan to accommodate all our needs, then built a fence that had to go up and down hills and through the woods in places. It is both a strong, utilitarian animal fence and a beautiful, see-through fence that maintains all our views, and enhances our property. Marcelino and his crew are perfectionists with the most amazing work ethic! They triply measured and checked everything. We've never seen a crew work as hard or as carefully as this one. Marcelino was in charge of every detail, and his team exuded pride in their workmanship. 100% recommendation!"

"Efficient. Always showed up on time. Andrew is an extremely hard worker and good problem solver. Replacing my old wooden deck with TimberTeck and adding a handicap ramp presented some challenges. Andrew was a pleasure to work with."

"I hired upper left handyman services to come repair my fence. Chris did an amazing job for a good price. He made sure my animals could still go outside while he did the fence and was super nice. I would call back for any repairs needed!"

"All Peaks Roofing and Construction built a beautiful cedar fence for our new home. Ryan included some customized features to the fence without hesitation and was very helpful in the design process. He was extremely reliable and conscientious. We hadn't yet moved to the area so he sent us pictures and video of his progress each day. We are very happy with the work they did for us."

Fencing questions, answered by experts

Galvanized metal, vinyl, and composite fences are known to be the longest-lasting options, often surviving for over 30 years with proper care. Metal fences, including galvanized chain link and aluminum, can look great for decades because the galvanization process adds a protective coating that resists weather and pests. Similarly, vinyl and composite materials are resistant to pests and can withstand harsh weather for many years. In comparison, a typical wood fence lasts about 15 years, and a standard vinyl fence has a lifespan of 20 to 30 years.

The lifespan of a fence can range from 5 to 50 years, depending heavily on the material, local climate, and how well it is maintained. For example, a wooden fence might last 7 to 15 years, while a vinyl fence typically lasts 20 to 30 years. Metal, composite, and glass fences have some of the longest lifespans. Proper maintenance, such as regular cleaning, inspections, and staining or sealing for wood, is key to extending the life of any fence material. Vinyl and composite are durable options that don't require sealing.

Electric fences use very little energy and shouldn’t cause any surprises on your next energy bill; You may only notice an extra couple of dollars on the bill. While electric fences don’t consume much energy, they still need it. If you have a power outage after a storm, your electric fence will likely stop working.

The recommended height for a garden fence depends on its primary purpose. For pest control, the necessary height varies by animal. To keep out small pests like rabbits, a fence should be at least two to three feet tall. If you live in an area with deer, you will need a much taller fence, at least five feet high, to prevent them from jumping over. If the main goal is privacy, the fence should be at least seven feet tall. For purely decorative fences, the height is a matter of personal preference.

You can DIY a stockade fence installation, but prepare to put in some good sweat equity. For the best results, carefully plan the exact location of your fence before you break ground. In particular, carefully map out your post locations before setting them in concrete. Be sure to call your local utility company before digging to avoid damaging underground wiring and causing severe injury.

On the other hand, installing stockade fencing on your own might sound too overwhelming. It’s certainly time-consuming and labor-intensive. Besides the hard work, you must install it properly to avoid gaps. Unless you’re confident you can get the job done right, hiring a privacy fence installer near you is the way to go.
