"I am a professional musician and recording artist and producer. I called Washington Pianos to move my piano for an upcoming concert, as well as regulate and tune it. Sam was prompt, courteous, and definitely knows his stuff! I have a 1903 7' Mason Hamlin Concert Grand piano, and Sam knew everything there was to know about the make and model. When he regulated and voiced the piano he was very careful to accurately voice (work on the felts of the hammers) as well regulate (even up the key distances and heights). The difference is amazing. Although I keep this piano in good shape with regular tunings, Sam's touch really improved the play-ability of the instrument.

Besides his tuning work, he also recommended me to a professional re-finisher to touch up some spots where the instrument has been worn. I also saw some beautiful pianos that he has restored at his Auburn piano store.

I am actively recommending Washington pianos to my professional musician friends and highly recommend him here on Angie's List.

"John and his team were wonderful! They were pleasant to work with, worked hard and were very respectful of my possessions. I plan on having them back to move some heavy pieces of furniture now that I am more settled. Alto Moving also moved some large plants that another much larger and more well-established firm told me they could not move because they could not secure them in their truck! John and his team got the plants moved with no problem whatsoever. I highly recommend Alto Moving for your moving needs, large or small!"

"We purchased a deal- $200 for 2 movers for 4 hours. It was a good deal, because another moving company told me that $350 was their lowest fee to come out. Prestige Movers contacted me immediately after I purchased the deal and was able to set up a time for them to come out within a week. We had some heavy furniture to move from upstairs to the main level. The two young men who moved our furniture were great! With such heavy furniture, they were cautious not to damage the items and walls, which was greatly appreciated! If needed, I will use this company again."

"I would recommend this company to others as they really cared about helping me with this difficult task. Sedric, the driver and manager of the move, was very accommodating and helped us keep calm through it all. All items were delivered safely. I couldn't be more pleased. The price was very reasonable, too! A BIG THANK YOU to Anthony Wright and crew of THE WRIGHT MOVE!"

Piano Moving questions, answered by experts

Moving companies offer a variety of service packages to suit different needs and budgets during the moving process. They typically provide loading, unloading, and transportation services, using specialized equipment to handle heavy and bulky items. Services can also include packing assistance, where professional packers securely pack belongings to ensure their safety during transportation. Some moving companies also offer temporary storage options, as well as unpacking services upon arrival.

You can calculate the cost of moving by evaluating your home size, the weight of your belongings, distance, and the method of moving. You’ll also want to account for moving company fees, cost of supplies, gas prices, storage fees, insurance, and more. To get the most accurate estimate for your upcoming move, get price quotes from several moving companies in your area.

The first step to choosing a relocation company is determining the distance of your move, types of services needed, and how many professional movers you need to hire. Once you set the parameter of your move, get price quotes from at least three local moving companies to compare pricing. Then, choose a relocation company that fits within your budget, supplies the necessary services, and has positive reviews from previous moving customers.

Unfortunately, moving scammers exist, so it’s important to thoroughly vet your moving company before scheduling a service date. Your moving company is likely legitimate if the offer fits within the average cost range, they provide proper contracts and moving insurance, don’t require a large deposit, and have several positive and recent online reviews from previous customers. Feel free to request previous customer information from the moving service and contact them to inquire about their experience to ease any lingering concerns.

Deciding whether it's worth it to hire movers depends on your budget, patience, and physical capabilities. It's difficult to gauge the amount of work that moving calls for, and it's easy to be off by about tenfold.

If you're able to call in some favors and round up friends to help, you might get through it just fine, but if you only have a few hands helping, things can quickly get overwhelming. Either way, bringing in the pros will save considerable time and stress, so if it's within your budget, it's a great investment.
