"These guys did a fantastic job removing a whole lot of blackberry vines and a ton of ivy from an overgrown area of my property. They also cut back some huge laurel hedges and did a really great job pruning a cherry tree that had been neglected for too long. "No response to messaging via Angie's List which they said they never received. Arborist came out who was very pleasant and knowledgeable. Price was 20% higher than other bidder, so did not use them for work. I would consider having them bid for future work, though..."

Generally, no, tree topping isn’t a good technique, and you should avoid using it in most cases. Tree topping may be the only good option to save a tree following severe damage after a storm, but in most other cases, it’s not the right choice. Tree topping can leave trees vulnerable to disease and further damage, and most pros will suggest against it.

While there is a lot of debate about whether boiling water is strong enough to kill tree roots, it is not best to remove the roots from large, old trees. You may be able to weaken young roots enough to remove them manually, but boiling water will likely not do the trick for large root systems.

It depends. Smaller, younger trees take longer to mature, but they're more resilient, their roots don't get as damaged during transplanting, and they recover faster. Plus, they're much more affordable to plant, and it's possible to DIY the planting. 

On the other hand, mature trees produce fruit faster and provide more shade and privacy immediately. Ideally, a small or medium tree is the better choice if you can wait a few years for it to mature. But if you need immediate maturity, a larger tree is the only option.
