"Yes! Eduardo and his son did a great job and I highly recommend them to anyone. There’s a lot of contractors who reached out about this project but what I really liked and one of the reason why I hired them because when Eduardo came out to look at the projects he listened and and then he shared with me his thoughts, unlike the others who just insisted this and that and I even almost kicked one out of the house already. After all, we the homeowners are the customers . Anyways, there’s more projects ahead of us and I definitely don’t mind having them to come out for estimate. We showed photos to friends and families and they all loved it."

"We worked with Ali (sales manager) and Tony (project manager), who took the time to design a project that made sense for our property and our budget, made a number of suggestions and recommendations and were never pushy or tried to "sell" us on something. The crew really went above and beyond to provide top quality workmanship and overall we were in very good hands. Highly recommended!"

"I own a home that was built in 1900 that I had previously retrofitted for earthquake protection. I took advantage of the $49 consultation offer from Seismic Northwest to review what I had done and see if it was acceptable. The consultant, Rocky, was very complimentary of the work I did. He made some recommendations on things I could do myself to strengthen the structure, but didn't try to sell me any services that may have been unnecessary. I believe that because Rocky stated my work was sound and didn't try to sell any services indicates he is an honest contractor and could be relied upon to provide quality service at a reasonable price."

"Our primary need was to have the exterior of our 3,600 sq. ft., two-story house repainted. Nearly as important, however, was a thorough, hands-on inspection of the entire structure with repairs as necessary. It was clear from the outset that our project would require both painting and construction services. How much of the latter was initially unclear but some was a certainty and we suspected that additional might become necessary as the project proceeded. Despite this fact, we were decidedly unenthusiastic about hiring and coordinating two separate contractors. Rather, we searched for companies that would be equally proficient at both painting and construction. That proved to be a very short list and it is our firm opinion that Tenhulzen Painting & Construction sits at the top! OVERVIEW: • Tenhulzen Painting & Construction painted our “challenging” 3,600 sq. ft. home and did an amazing job! We are demanding, difficult to please consumers but we have only praise and accolades for the job they did! • During the prep and painting there were several areas of dry rot that were discovered. On each occasion, these were immediately and seamlessly addressed by Tenhulzen’s construction group. The communication and coordination between painting and construction was impressive. The repairs were performed efficiently and perfectly. It was precisely what we had sought and requested! We could not be happier with the outcome. • A few words that come to mind when thinking about Scott Tenhulzen and his employees: Professional, Organized, Proud, Meticulous, Integrity, Thorough, Skilled, Reliable, Personable. • Would we use Tenhulzen Painting & Construction again on another project? In a heartbeat. In fact, we will probably do so this spring for a construction project we are planning. • Would we recommend Tenhulzen Painting & Construction? Unequivocally, enthusiastically and without the slightest reservation DETAILS: The Boss Scott was not on site much. He entrusted the daily supervision to a bright and capable Team Leader—Matt Kahler. But I had a lengthy conversation with him during his initial visit and then frequent phone and email contact. He is an impressive man in many regards. Scott is very bright and articulate and easily shares his vast knowledge and experience. But what impressed me most was his character. It doesn’t take much contact with Scott to get a clear sense of his values: honesty, integrity, dependability, doing a job well. After observing and chatting with the crew that painted and repaired our house it became clear that he expects the same from his employees. The Crew There was nearly always a painting crew of five. Matt Kahler was the Team Leader. He organized, assigned daily tasks, did a bit of “quality control” supervision, and worked along with the others. Matt is very personable and capable. He did a nice job of coordinating all aspects of the project. The other members of the painting crew were: Charlie, Simeon, Bruce, and MacGyver. They were a delightful bunch, often joking and bantering back-and-forth! I visited with them daily over the course of three weeks and enjoyed it immensely. I missed them when they left! The construction work was done by Rich and Rodney--both very experienced and proficient. Their interface with the painting crew was seamless. Several times during the prep or painting a structural issue was discovered. Matt would call the construction side and soon thereafter Rich would appear. He would quickly determine what needed to be done. Materials would be purchased and the next day the repair would be completed in perfect coordination with the other work. Workmanship As indicated above, I was a more-or-less constant presence around the outside of the house so I saw first-hand the work that was done. I was impressed! I had no idea that so much preparation was required prior to painting. The attention to detail was stunning. I suspect that many companies do far less and/or do it far less well. It seems somewhat beyond the scope of this review to delineate the specifics of the preparation. Suffice to indicate that it was extensive and all completed with painstaking thoroughness. The actual painting was, of course, equally careful and thorough. Perhaps largely as a result of the meticulous prep the process appeared to go quite smoothly. On those few occasions where a specified area was judged unacceptable it was sanded and repainted without hesitation. The final result was gorgeous! Better than we anticipated! Work Ethic I have touched on this elsewhere. I’m sure this begins with Scott. The man is a machine. I don’t know when he sleeps. I would frequently receive responses to my emails that would show a “sent” time of 1:00 or 2:00 a.m. Working hard, long, and well is clearly a core value for Scott Tenhulzen and therefore the entirety of Tenhulzen Painting & Construction. Care & Clean Up Absolutely impeccable! We decided to use ½ of our double garage for staging. At the end of every day all materials and equipment were returned to this area. All of our extensive plantings and landscaping was carefully protected from ladders, footsteps and overspray. Paint chips and scrapings were gathered as much as possible. There was never a trace of stray paint left on any windows or surrounding surfaces. COST / VALUE: Tenhulzeen will never come in as the lowest bid. They provide a premium quality product and that will always be relatively expensive. But, in our opinion the value is excellent! The “benefit” is more than worth the expense."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

An A-frame home can be cheaper to build than a traditional house, but that is not always a given. Prices can be fairly similar in some cases, depending on the location, design, and necessary site preparation. Costs for an A-frame typically run between $100 to $200 per square foot, which is comparable to the cost of a traditional home. The cost of an A-frame can come in under those numbers if you opt for a prefabricated kit.

For maximum stability, install grab bars on wall studs, as this will adequately support the weight. However, if you don't have access to studs, you can get by with wall anchors. If opting for the latter, choose specialty hollow wall anchors.

Most of the time, you’ll want to use screws on your subfloor rather than nails. Nails can actually weaken plywood, whereas screws can easily penetrate without damage. They also form a more secure connection because of their shape, preventing squeaky floors and tightly holding the subfloor in place. That said, some contractors do prefer nails depending on the type of floor covering because they allow for more flexibility.

Framing is the shell of the house. It includes several steps, including studs, plumbing, and electricity. A professional will ensure the wall frame is secured for the house’s structural integrity.

Framing prices change depending on the material and whether the wall is load-bearing. Most contractors use wood to frame a home, but metal is another popular choice.

Baseboards don’t have to be nailed into studs. However, nailing them into studs adds to their stability. When studs aren’t available, you can secure them with drywall nails directly into the drywall and adhesive. Always aim to nail into studs, especially in high-traffic or impact-prone areas.
