Cronos Contracting is a family owned and operated company. The owner Tom Riverson (ME!) is a second generation chimney sweep and I choose me bristles with pride! You might see my father (the 1st generation sweep)and I get together to work on some more difficult projects and it's always a good time! How many people can say they've had a family reunion on a rough top! The Company: We offer our service guarantee, if you're not happy it's free. A standard sweep will run $119.00 before tax and includes an inspection, (1) flue and (1) fireplace cleaning and the ash getting all scooped up! What's a standard sweep? A standard sweep is a fireplace which commonly burns seasoned dry wood and contains no more than a mild stage 2 creosote, the black small clumpy stuff usually seen in the flue. A not so standard sweep will have all (3) stages of creosote and be baked on real good which is not so good and will require several types of brushes to clean as well as a couple of creosote treatments to insure the danger of a chimney fire is reduced and avoided. These are priced on a case by case basis although I haven't done one yet that ran over $200 for the cleaning portion. Creosote treatments are $60.00 each and are VERY effective! We run specials often so call and check our prices! Thanks and we look forward to your sweep! When you're with a sweep your as lucky as lucky can be!

Chimney Repair questions, answered by experts

The cost to replace the chimney crown or top is about $1,550 on average. The range varies widely depending on the size of the chimney, the materials used, accessibility, and the extent of the damage. If you suspect a problem with your chimney top, call a professional masonry contractor for an inspection.

There are two main issues with metal roofs: the up-front cost and how noisy they can be when it rains. Metal roofs cost close to twice as much as asphalt roofs per square foot, and although you also get more than double the lifespan and more value from them, the initial cost is higher. Metal roofs can also create noise in your living space when it rains, so some homeowners install acoustic panels or insulation under them to reduce noisiness.

Generally, to install roof flashing, you shouldn't use screws. Rather, it's best to use either roofing cement or nails. For the best results, match your nail type with the flashing materials. If you have aluminum flashing, use aluminum nails, and so on. You can use the same nails for your asphalt shingles and flashing.

How long it takes to repair a roof depends on damage, but in general you can expect roof repair to take a few hours to a few days. For example, replacing damaged shingles can take between one and four hours. Structural repairs, like fixing a sagging roof, can take up to four days.

Asphalt shingle roofs are more likely to leak than metal roofs because they are more prone to uplift and damage from extreme weather, moss growth, and ice dams. Asphalt shingles also lose shingle grit over time, which decreases their waterproofing qualities. Metal is a more resilient material that will stand up better to strong winds and heavy precipitation, ultimately leading to a lower risk of leaking. As such, metal roofs add to home value with a higher ROI than asphalt roofs in most cases.
