Steve and Tom arrived early, but called ahead to make sure it was ok. They were courteous and did an efficient and seemingly professional job (it being August neither chimney is presently in use) of cleaning both our lined woodstove and furnace chimneys. They were courteous, informative (sharing information on the characteristic inaccuracy with magnetic woodstove thermometers and how to compensate for that problem), and made certain that the space around the stove was protected and remained clean.

Excellent. Company provided quick response to a reschedule an appointment, which worked out great. Steve and Kyle, the chimney sweeps were prompt, professional and completed the chimney cleaning and maintenance check in a timely manner and then provided a $30 coupon at time of payment, which was greatly appreciated! Would recommend this company.

the company representative that made first contact seemed professional and competent so based on this and their rating on angies list I signed a contract with northeastern chimney. once they had my deposit their story started to change at first their telephone representative started to tell me they were bizzy and might not get to my chimney until next year. after several phone calls they started the job at the end of September. when they arrived the rep who first quoted the job stated the bricks that were ordered were not an exact match and slapped one brick up against my chimney and asked if that was all right!!only seeing one brick it was hard to tell once it was finished it was not even a close match I have the feeling these were left over bricks from a previous job!! The crew they sent seemed competent the structure of chimney seemed alright .when they finished I asked when were going to install the cap their response was what cap?The cap was never ordered, several phone calls later the finally istalled the cap.the fact that they could not even come close to matching original brick shows a lack of caring for customer satisfaction. I would look else where if looking for a good result!!!!

Seemed to go well at the time but last year the stone slabs that formed the cap sagged so much that they funneled rainwater down the chimney. Consisting entirely of bluestone slabs and brick it was expected to be a permanent addition to the chimney. When I called Nayaug I was told they really were not actively in the business anymore and, in any case, no longer dealt with very high chimneys. They said they would drop by to check it out and comment. This was more than 8 months ago and no sign of Nayaug. Giving up on Nayaug, I callede Mirek Masonry who examined the failed cap and discovered the bluestone pieces had sagged because ithey were too thin for cap service. Mirek tore the entire cap out and replaced the 2 thin plates with a proper, single slab. Mirek did a fine job as opposed to Nayaug.

Response from Northeastern Chimney
In June of this year[Member name removed] called into Nayaug to schedule a mason estimate. On June 26th he called our office to cancel that appointment. He did not state reason for canceling. We have not done any mason work for [Member name removed]nor did we have the opportunity to leave a proposal for work to be done. We have experienced masons that are more than qualified to do a full array of masonry work. I am sorry that [Member name removed] chose to rate our company with an F, when no work was done. None the less we respect our customer’s opinions and hope maybe in the future we could change his opinion of us, given the opportunity.

*See update below!!* First, they cancelled the first weekend they were supposed to show up. Fine, stuff happens. Then they came out the next weekend - but substituted another company instead! Someone from Nayaug Chimney Services came out. My concerns: (1) The serviceman didn't install the bottom cap on my pellet chimney properly - he left off all the screws that hold it in place. Good thing my husband looked back there because the tape on the liner insulation was ripped during the cleaning (an easy fix, I'm more concerned about not properly securing the end cap on my chimney!!). (2) I'm not certain that the cleaner went all the way to the top - he used all the rods he brought into the house, and "luckily" the top of the chimney was exactly at the end of his last rod. They're standard lengths and it never ended evenly at the end of a rod - the cleaners have always had several feet left. I am concerned that he just quit when he ran out of rods and didn't reach the top of our very tall chimney. (3) He used the same brush for our 6" wood stove liner as he did on our 3" pellet liner. Never seen it done that way. I have some real concerns about the value and efficacy of the cleaning we received. I won't be calling this company again, and may even have to hire someone else to come out and check that it was done properly, just for peace of mind. **UPDATE** The company apparently read this review, contacted me and came out the same day to re-sweep the chimneys. I am so impressed by their professionalism and WILL be contacting them again next year. They were amazing!

This company has merged with Nayaug Chimney. It is a classic example of a company that is too busy and does not have enough support staff in the office. I called on Thursday August 22, 2013 and spoke to a customer service person who put me on hold twice. She said that someone would call me the following day to set the appointment. No one called until Wednesday August 28. Someone from their office called on Wednesday August 28 and wanted to know if I could go home immediately for the estimate. When I said that I was at work and could not run home immediately to suit them, she scheduled an appointment for Saturday between 8AM and 10AM. She said that someone would call to confirm on Friday night. No one called and no one showed up. When I called them again on Tuesday September 3, I was told that I was mistaken and that the appointment for the estimate was for the following Saturday (September 7, 2013). They had my home, office and cell number in their files. They left a confirmation voice mail on Friday on my work phone number after business hours saying that someone from their other company would be in to do my estimate. I was home on Saturday September 7 and the technician came in. Very nice man and very knowledgeable. I complained about my experience and he told me that they were too busy and were having trouble finding people to answer the phones. The estimate from Northeastern Chimney came in at $4,165. My other two estimates were $2,230 and 2,650 respectively from other reputable Angies List providers for the same work and products. This firm is obviously too busy to be interested and competitive. There are better vendors to use.

Initial visit went very well. Tech that came to home was professional. Work scheduled for early Oct. Work done in Nov. but were unable to seal chimney because of cold. The chimney looks great, there are no more leaks but they left a mess. A great deal of debris left on front porch, front walk and shrub beds.

Tim and Curtis were courteous, on time, and explained everything thoroughly. They were neat, and wore shoe booties to protect my floors. They carried the appropriate equipment, so that the correct caps could be installed immediately. Tim even found an old chimney swift nest (without eggs or birds) in my chimney and discussed habits of the bird, etc. FYI he explained that the birds are protected, and if there was an active nest, they would have to come back in the fall! I don't have much experience with chimney sweeps, because I don't use my fireplace that much, but all in all the cost was reasonable.
Description of Work: Tim and Curtis installed 2 stainless steel caps; inspected both chimneys and cleaned out the one that we use (other not used). They made a proposal to repair mortar at the top of the one we never used, and explained that since we never use it, the mortar can deteriorate because it never dries out. We have a hip roof, so Tim told me roof staging would have to be set up to access it, so the estimated cost of repair is close to $3,000. He left a written proposal for me, so I could think it over!

I got a quote from the company over a year ago. Their quote was better than other of their competitors who quoted for the work. I picked them because of that and because of their ratings on this site. I ended up not being able to get the work done last year but when I called back this year prepared to have the work done they honored their previous quote. I was impressed by that. The work was scheduled to begin on a Wednesday and they came the day before to set up their staging so they were ready to go on the scheduled date. The workers showed up on time, were courteous to me, and answered all my questions. They did the work requested and were timely. The rebuilt chimney looks very good. They did a nice job cleaning up. Overall, I felt that the company was accommodating and the workers did a good job. A couple of small notes though: While the guys all seemed very nice, I have to say that they did swear a bit loudly at times while talking together. I don't really care for myself but they were within hearing distance of several neighbors, some with children. While taking down the part of the of the chimney that needed to be repaired there was quite a bit of debris falling down on that side of the house. When I heard it start to hit my air conditioner on the first floor I went out to ask that they cover it with a tarp or something. One of the guys said it was just small debris and it would be ok. I asked that they do it anyway and they complied right away. I was glad I asked because as the work went on larger pieces came down off the roof. I kind of felt like they should have thought of that and if they didn't and I pointed it out they should have done it without trying to convince me that it was fine. I feel like if I had not been working from home that there could have been some damage to the air conditioner. The lilac that I was trying to re-grow near where the staging was got damaged. I kind of wished that had not happened.
