"I got six estimates for replacement of my 12-year-old water heater. I went with Advanced Water Systems of Coastal NC-VA. I’m extremely happy with the purchase and installation of my new water heater. Advanced Water Systems of Coastal NC-VA impressed me at every step of the process. They provided a fair estimate, professional communication and installation, answered all my questions during the process, and cleaned up after they were done. The installation team installed a new gas shut off valve and an expansion tank, in addition to the water heater, and didn’t add on extra charges like some companies. They also insulated the pipes. I’m thankful that everything is now up to code. The plumber explained the purpose of the expansion tank, other companies didn’t even mention one. "I bought an existing home which this product was installed. I could not stand the taste or smell of the water. So I called the company and had them change out the filtering system (charcoal I believe). This cost me $450.00. After giving it some time to work(2 months). There was no change to taste or smell of the water. I turned the system off and the water is fine. So I set an appointment to which they no showed. No call or anything for communication. Its probably because I told them I want a reimbursement of 80%. So I waited 30 miniutes based on the early arrival time to confirm our appointment by text. No response. This is the way we communicated prior and by phone. Which was for 9am. I finally texted again at 5:30 pm and got a response. The manager told me his technician had arrived and nobody was home. Surprisingly, no security cameras pick the technician up on my patio or driveway or road. Not to mention no phone call either. When i texted again at 5:30pm, the manager James was not friendly and offered no resolution. Spend your money somewhere else."

Soft water is better for your hair. The minerals in hard water can impact hair in a number of ways. It can cause the hair to dry out and become brittle, and it can require you to use more shampoo to get a good lather. The hard water may leave a film on the hair and scalp from mineral buildup, which may also cause some irritation.

If your water softener repair is fairly straightforward, like a simple filter replacement, then you can probably do it yourself with little risk. However, anything beyond a simple fix should be addressed by someone with extensive plumbing expertise to avoid costly water softener problems, like leaks. 

That said, even simple problems can be complicated to diagnose, particularly if your water softener is attached to a whole-house treatment system. So, unless you feel absolutely certain that the problem is an easy fix that you can take on yourself, it's probably best to hire a plumber to diagnose and fix the problem.

It’s not a good idea to oversize your water softener. Doing so will mean the tank doesn’t get full, which can lead to channeling. This leads to a large portion of the resin beads not being utilized and the beads at the bottom of the tank being overused. Over time, this will reduce the efficiency of your system, not to mention that the upfront cost of an oversized softener is unnecessarily high. If you have a timed regeneration cycle rather than a demand-based one, you’ll also spend far more on replacing salt than you need to.

It’s unlikely that hard water on its own could cause substantial hair loss or damage, though it’s true that bathing in hard water can cause your scalp to feel itchy or flaky and might dull your hair’s natural shine. Using high-quality shampoo and conditioner or buying a whole-home water softener can decrease these issues.

A good hardness level for drinking water can vary based on personal preferences, but an ideal level is 3.5 to 7 GPG. This means your water isn’t soft or hard. However, some people prefer the “fresh” taste from the minerals in hard water, while others like the smoother, “slippery” texture of soft water.
