"CSI was flexible and was able to schedule a home inspector the day after I got a bid accepted on a house. The inspector, Patrick, showed up on time and the inspection took about 4 hours. Patrick was responsive to any questions I had by email or live during the inspection. My one recommendation is that I requested a pest, mold, radon, and home inspection. It would be a better heads up if they explained that they sometimes outsource the radon inspection depending on availability of radon inspectors. Also, they can explain a bit more for new home buyers what is involved with a mold inspection. Patrick ended up just eyeing whether he spotted any mold. Because he did not see any mold, we did not have to pay extra for mold samples."

"I had an overall great experience, they were very clean and neat. They completed the work quickly and around my schedule. I was highly recommended by a co-worker and they were everything they have mention to me. I will be recommending them and he will be back later this summer to stain and seal my deck.

"The house had not been painted for many years and needed much patching etc.  The painters arrived on time and put down drop clothes to protect floors. The prep work was done well.  The job started on a Tuesday and was to be completed on the Friday, all items were out of house with the exception of 3 pieces of furniture which were placed in one location.
On the Thursday I came over to the house to discover that several of the rooms were painted the wrong colors.:( I quickly called the owner Francis and he came over to fix the situation.)  It seems there was some mixup at the paint store and they had given him some of the wrong paint. I had emailed him the paint colors and numbers and been very specific about the colors for each room.  The painters started to redo the entire job, they worked several late nights, but could not finish before I was to move in on the Sat. It was quite a stressful time as they were painting as I was moving in, but they did their best to work around us. At 6 p.m. Sat. they finished the job. Francis and crews did a good job, it was just unfortunate that the crew had to redo so much and it really added  extra stress to the situation. They work very hard and the actually painting and patching was great."

Lead Testing and Removal questions, answered by experts

Hiring a professional for mold and toxic material testing ensures precise identification of harmful substances within a home. Professionals utilize specialized equipment and techniques, providing accurate results that inform proper removal strategies, safeguarding occupant health.

A lead paint inspection is a thorough examination and assessment of a building or structure to determine the presence of lead-based paint. Lead-based paint was commonly used in buildings before 1978 when its health hazards were fully understood. Lead is toxic and can pose health risks, particularly to young children and pregnant women. Getting a lead paint inspection means finding a lead paint inspector to examine the surfaces of the building—such as walls, ceilings, doors, windows, and other painted areas—and identify the presence of lead-based paint.

No, a standard home inspection includes the basics and does not offer lead paint testing. Professional lead paint inspectors need specific licenses to perform these inspections, which not all home inspectors have. If you suspect lead paint in the home you are about to purchase, you will need to pay separately to have that done. If the findings come back positive, you may be able to negotiate with the buyer to cover the cost of the removal.

Lead paint test kits are not always accurate. Several factors can play into why a test kit provides an inaccurate result such as user error, sample viability, the age and condition of the paint, or difficulty interpreting the final result. If you are looking for 100% accuracy, hiring a professional lead paint test is the only way to get that piece of mind.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), hazardous waste is generally classified into four main categories:

1. Characteristic Wastes: These exhibit at least one of four hazardous traits: ignitability (flammable, like gasoline), corrosivity (can rust or decompose materials, like car batteries), reactivity (unstable and can explode, like aerosol cans), or toxicity (harmful when ingested, like lead-based paint).

2. Listed Wastes: These are specific wastes from manufacturing and industrial processes that the EPA has officially designated as hazardous. They include byproducts from processes that use solvents, pesticides, and other chemicals.

3. Universal Wastes: These are commonly generated hazardous items that are subject to streamlined regulations. Examples include batteries, pesticides, mercury-containing equipment (e.g., bulbs), and some lamps.

4. Mixed Wastes: This category includes waste that contains both hazardous and radioactive components, making it subject to regulation by both the EPA and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
