Wells should be at least 100 feet deep for drinking water, but they may need to be deeper depending on the local geology, water quality, and your household’s water usage. For instance, if yours is set to 30/50 psi (which is common), the ideal psi is 2 to 3 psi below the cut-on pressure—in other words, 27 to 28 psi. However, if it’s at a higher setting of 40/60 psi, 38 psi would be the appropriate level.
