Customers say: True professional

"Our driveway is around a 1/4 mile long and winds its way through a beautiful woodland area. We searched for a paving contractor with an excellent reputation and after receiving several estimates we selected O. Cooper. We were unable to physically be onsite to go over the project but that didn't matter as Billy suggested we meet via FaceTime. He arrived at the property on time, and we were able to walk the project virtually discussing our vision and expectations. He promptly provided us with a very detailed estimate of the work to be performed along with a price quote. Once onsite we were impressed with the obvious preparation, coordination, and execution of the project. We are so pleased with the way the driveway turned out and are grateful to O. Cooper for doing such a professional job. We can't say enough. I would recommend O. Cooper Asphalt Paving without any hesitation. Oh, one last thing the scheduler was awesome too!"

"Larry and his crew were able to start immediately on my 500 sq ft pave stone patio with a built-in grill, natural stone fire pit, and sitting wall and they finished in a week. They were all professional, listened to my requirements, and provided feedback and suggestions. I recommend them and will call them again when needed."

"Amazing. They arrived when they said they would and did a better job than I expected. Hardest working crew I've seen. Will definitely have him come back to do more work. Price was reasonable as well."

"Provider was suppose to return and finish laying sand on the patio. Since job was very close to complete, I paid him rather than wait. I never heard from him again. The sand has since washed out in spots and another provider is correcting the situation with polymeric sand. Other than the sand issue, the patio looks good in the way it is laid out. Provider was punctual, and the project went very fast considering it was in the middle of the winter.

"It’s a pleasure to write one of the first reviews on Hot Mixx Asphalt Paving, a newcomer to Angie’s List. Although a newcomer to Angie’s list I have been doing business with this company and its predecessor for over 14 years. During this period of time they have installed a driveway as well as a paver walkway for me all with excellent results.
Their first paving job lasted over 14 years, however over the year heavy trucks have taken their toll on the driveway. I decide that it was time to call Mr. Houston again and inquire about the repair and resurfacing of the driveway. Mr. Houston has reorganized, taken on a new partner (Mike Horton) and is now doing business as Hot Mixx Asphalt Paving.
I received a very competitive bid from Mike Horton of Hot Mixx. I signed a contract with Mike on a Friday and he and his 8-man crew were at my premises early on the following Monday morning ready to do the job. I was extremely pleased to learn that many
of the 8-man crew that showed up on Monday morning were members of the crew that installed my driveway in 2000. That said a lot to me about the companies ability to retain quality people in a very competitive business such as asphalt paving.
This latest job involved the removal of a considerable amount of asphalt damaged by the heavy truck traffic and a complete repaving of my 275 ft. driveway. Once again the end results were excellent just like in 2000. This time Mike supervised the job from beginning to end. He was totally responsive to all my requests and when I asked him to come back and make a few cosmetic fixes to the driveway he did so willingly and on an expedited basis. Mike has grown up working for Mr. Houston over the years and has learned the business well. His enthusiasm for his work and his new role as a partner in Hot Mixx are quite evident. He was a pleasure to work with.
I ended up with another great driveway job and am looking forward to getting another 14 years out of this one
Hot Mixx delivered quality work and demonstrated excellent business ethics. It’s hard to find quality companies in the asphalt paving business, however Hot Mixx and Mike Horton are the exception and I highly recommend them if you're looking for a quality driveway paving job.

"We hired Pyramid paving to pave our driveway. They worked with us in determining the schedule and worked with us in resolving a few minor issues. They did a great job. There was some grading work to be done which they did. Quality work all the way around. Would I recommend them? Yes. Would I use them again? Absolutely! They were great to work with."

"Donald Scherbyn and his employees perform excellent work and work very hard to ensure that the job is completed right the first time. We were very impressed with the service and would recommend this company to all. VTI will most definetly hire this company for its future needs in this field."

Paving Services questions, answered by experts

Paving is a part of hardscaping, so all paving is hardscaping, but not all hardscaping is paving. Paving involves laying down concrete or asphalt, while hardscaping can also include the use of paving stones, bricks, gravel, wood, and more. Hardscape features that involve paving are considered permanent and will increase your property taxes, while some other hardscaping features—like those involving bricks, gravel, and paving stones—will not affect property taxes. Paving also typically requires a permit, while hardscaping features considered temporary will not.

Your driveway contractor will probably recommend that you avoid driving on your new millings driveway for up to a week. Keeping pressure off the freshy applied millings will help the driveway to bind together. While the sun is helpful for binding millings, hotter weather can actually make the curing process take longer.

You can pour concrete over asphalt if it’s in good condition, thick, stable, and well-compacted. Concrete is more durable than asphalt and can extend the lifetime of your driveway without having to pay frequent asphalt driveway repair costs or replace it completely.

But this is best reserved as a temporary solution based on budget restraints, as asphalt requires more frequent repairs and assessments than concrete. Once that concrete top is poured, it’ll be harder to accurately understand what’s happening beneath that layer, which could lead to more issues.

A pallet of pavers will cost about $300 to $700 per pallet. Each pallet covers about 56 square feet. The specific price you pay per pallet of pavers will depend on a few factors, including the type of paver you’re buying, the size and shape of the pavers, and how many pavers you need. In some cases, you’ll spend less per pallet if you’re buying in bulk for very large paver patios.

Wet cutting is usually the preferred method. It controls dust, which helps protect your lungs and makes for a cleaner working environment. Plus, the water cools the blade, preventing overheating and prolonging its life while providing smoother, more precise cuts. The downside is the mess—water and asphalt sludge can be messy to clean. Dry cutting, though convenient if water isn’t available, creates a lot of dust, which can be harmful. This also increases the risk of blade damage due to overheating. So, if you have the option, wet cutting is the better method for most asphalt jobs.
