"They are prompt to answer, their quotes are fair and indicative of current material prices, they are a licensed contractor and provide their number for reference. They will walk the site with you to discuss the project and answer questions you have, and they are quick to schedule. From initial walk through to project completion was 3 weeks for me. I will use their services again as they offer maintenance contracts."

"I am so happy with the job. The result was as I had hoped it would be. My experience working with L-H Masonry was better. I would highly recommend him. It was a hard project. Demolishing and replacing 10 brick and stone steps, a landing, and caping stone walls in the front of my home in the Old Town section of Winchester. I spent years interviewing masons, but Larry was the first I felt I could communicate well with and understood what I wanted. His team kept to the schedule and budget we agreed upon. They were professional, thorough, skilled, good people."

"When I called to arrange an estimate, Jose answered the call instead of an answering machine or a service that schedules call backs. He met with me the same day that I called! Jose arrived for the estimate 10 minutes early which is something you do not see these days! I walked around my property and pointed out where I needed lawn mowing, maintenance and some tree and bush maintenance. Jose has a good eye for detail and suggested some additional improvements to achieve the openness I was after for my property. Jose told me that he would schedule my work in about a week. The day Jose and his team came out to perform the work, he gave me a call to let me know he was there and see if I wanted to come out and see the work. We met the next day and walked around the property to review the work. The result was exactly as we had discussed. Jose was prompt, he has very good attention to detail and is very customer oriented. I fully recommend Jose and his company for your residential landscaping needs."

Paving Services questions, answered by experts

While some areas may allow for a slope of up to 20%, this is often the maximum slope for driveways, with a few exceptions of up to 25%. Other regions may have a maximum of 12%, 15%, or 18%, so check with your local building department to ensure you’re laying a driveway that is up to code for your location.

Yes, it is possible to pave over an existing driveway, but whether it's the right choice depends on several factors. If the underlying structure of your current driveway is still strong, concrete or asphalt resurfacing can be a cost-effective way to prolong its life. However, if your driveway has significant issues like potholes, deep cracks, or other inconsistencies, it is best to remove the old driveway and start from scratch. Key factors to consider include the current driveway's condition, the compatibility of the new material, the added thickness and height, and the necessary surface preparation.

Building a road on a slope requires careful planning and will normally require a drainage system underneath to prevent flooding and damage to the road over time. Your professional may lengthen your road to create switchbacks if the slope directly to your home is too steep, as there are regulations for maximum road slope. The drainage system will help prevent runoff from the higher side of the slope from damaging the asphalt or concrete. Keep in mind that building a road on a slope isn’t a good DIY project, as a lot can go wrong.

The average cost to repair an asphalt driveway is around $2,459 to $2,500. However, prices can range from $100 for minor DIY crack filling to over $4,000 for more extensive professional work. Costs are often calculated per foot, with minor repairs costing $1 to $3 per linear foot and heavier damage like potholes, sinking, or crumbling costing $2 to $5 per linear foot. Patching smaller potholes can cost around $2 to $3 per square foot. The final price depends on the severity and extent of the damage, driveway design, local contractor rates, and whether sealing is included. For major repairs, it is recommended to hire a professional, and you may get a better deal by bundling repair and sealing services together.

The average cost of 1,500 square feet of asphalt ranges from about $10,500 to $22,500, depending on location, thickness, base material, and how accessible the job site is to crews and equipment. Keep in mind that your asphalt material cost may vary depending on its type, ranging from porous asphalt to heated blacktop. Standard asphalt costs $7 to $13 per square foot.
