"Best plumbing service I've ever had. Chad was outstanding, probably the most professional service pro I've ever dealt with. We had a water leak (from the upstairs bathroom into the kitchen celling below) the day after my wife gave birth...what a headache and stressor! But Chad did a great job....professional, informative, competent,....thanks Chad and Plumbing Innovators! You are our plumbers for life!"

"I am very happy to have selected SwiftPro to install a heat pump in my home. The price for the Trane system was significantly below what the competitors were offering, and every aspect of the installation process went very smoothly. When I had some trouble with the control panel after the installers had left, the owner, Tyler, got the technician immediately on the phone to correct my mistake. The added bonus is that the air quality of my home has clearly improved by reducing dramatically the use of my natural-gas burning furnace. So, I’m happy to attest that SwiftPro really is as professional as Tyler claims in his initial sales presentation."

"PNH responded to my Home Advisor inquiry within minutes and I scheduled them to come out the next day, Monday October 7th. I knew the well pump and pressure tank were in need of replacement, and hoped to push off the repair until after January 1st. Unfortunately my equipment was not on the same schedule. The price of the job, $3000, was well below what I expected, and there was no additional pressure of add on sales by the crew. The crew worked efficiently and were very professional in their skill and knowledge of what needed to be done to correctly fix my problem. Within the next couple of weeks, I plan to have PNH come back out to replace my 17 year old gas water heater. This company is one that I trust and recommend for well and pressure tank service."

"We had a leak somewhere in our bathroom that was causing water to drip from the dining room ceiling when the shower was used. Jacob found the problem quickly and replaced the rotted gasket. We also had him replace the tub spout and shower head since he was here. Additionally, we discovered the night before our appointment that one of our sump pumps appeared to be broken. Jacob replaced it with one from his truck. All in all, the service was OUTSTANDING! He took the time to explain everything and demonstrate that the issues were resolved. Pricing was reasonable and service was quick, professional and personable. Cannot rate Pipe Doctor highly enough! Definitely recommend!"

Wells and Pumps questions, answered by experts

Ensures safe and effective service, restoring water flow and system efficiency.

The pressure in a well pressure tank should be set 2 to 3 PSI below the pump's cut-on pressure. The cut-on pressure is the lower number in the pressure setting (e.g., the '30' in 30/50 PSI) and is the point at which the pump starts. The cut-out pressure is the higher number, where the pump stops.

For example:

  • If your pressure switch is set to 30/50 PSI, the tank pressure should be 27-28 PSI.

  • If your pressure switch is set to 40/60 PSI, the tank pressure should be 38 PSI.

Common pressure settings for household applications include 20/40, 30/50, and 40/60 PSI. The difference between the cut-on and cut-out pressure is typically 20 PSI.

Common signs that your well pump is failing include fluctuating or consistently poor water pressure, sputtering water from faucets, or a complete loss of water. Other indicators are unusual noises coming from the pump, the pump running continuously, dirty or cloudy water, or a sudden, unexplained spike in your utility bills. While some issues, especially after a power outage, might be resolved by simply restarting the power or priming the pump, persistent problems suggest a more serious issue. If you notice any of these red flags, it is recommended to call a professional well pump service to inspect the system and determine whether it needs to be repaired or replaced.

With regular servicing and general upkeep, both a well pump and pressure tank can last for years. The average lifespan of a well pump is around eight to 15 years. A well pressure tank can last from seven to 10 years. How long a well pump and pressure tank lasts also depends on a variety of factors such as type, size, material, and brand.

Yes, you can oversize a well pressure tank without harming your well system, as there are no major risks involved. The primary advantage of a larger tank is an increased lifespan due to less frequent pump cycling. Fewer startups and longer, slower runtimes mean less wear and tear on the system and can help conserve energy. The main drawbacks are the higher upfront cost and the larger amount of space required for an oversized tank. While not necessarily a bad thing, it is often more efficient to select an appropriately sized tank to save money and space.
