"When I called Underground Services First, I explained that my water bill had jumped up $25 in one billing. The owner, Donna, asked me some questions and based on my responses, knew exactly what the problem was - Qest pipe. She explained to me the issues regarding Qest pipe and what they would do to remedy the leaking water (due to Qest pipes). The crew came to my house promptly and completed the job in a few hours. Everyone from the office staff, the crew and the owner were very professional and accommodating. I found everyone at Underground Services First to be extremely knowledgeable and skilled. They did an excellent job and my water bills are back to normal. Thank you Underground Services First!

"They were great to deal with and I couldn’t recommend them enough. The whole project was handled professionally and efficiently from the measurement to the installation. They have a great team that seamlessly handles all the details. Andy with design, Johnny with templating, Ashley with project management and Arturo’s team with installation. All were great. Their laser measurement and CAD technology makes sure that the final product fits including all the plumbing connections. They have great communication, a great selection of materials--some only available through CGM. I decided I’d use them again—and actually I just did! Phil Kasik, Charlottesville"

"Roger showed up at the time he estimated (called first to tell me he was on the way) and got right to work!
We have a floor drain that water comes up out of when there is a clog somewhere, and it goes all over the floor.
I have had many plumbers looking at the same problem as long as I have owned this house, they were never really sure what the problem was. The clog seems to be fixed when they leave, but slowly comes back. Roger tried snaking the pipes in the usual place, but it didn't seem to work. So, he asked if he could cut a pipe and try it from there. After a few tries, he got the clog, and told us how we could take care of it if it happened again. Which should be much easier to take care of, since we know where the problem area is.  If I ever need another plumber, I know who to call!

"This was my first time using this approach for a home repair. Bob (Bear Mechanical Plumber) was very friendly, and displayed a lot of knowledge and experience as we discussed what I needed to have repaired. He successfully removed my old kitchen faucet hose ((which was leaking) and installed a new hose that I had procured from the original faucet manufacturer. He finished his work by operating the faucet and verifying no leaks were present, and the hose functioned as intended. He cleaned as he worked and even showed me the worn areas in the old hose that were contributing to the leaks. I appreciated his good work ethic and attention to detail. To top all of this off, my bill was even less than I was quoted on the phone as I began my search for a plumber. I will definitely call Bear Mechanical and ask for Bob again. Tim Ludlow"

Toilets questions, answered by experts

A broken flange could lead to serious issues. When a flange breaks, the toilet is no longer secured to the subfloor, which leads to constant rocking when in use. Over time, this breaks the wax seal between the toilet and flange and causes leaking throughout the substrate, bathroom floor, and ceilings below the bathroom.

Your toilet handle might not come back up if the nut is loose or the bolt threads are stripped. Try to tighten the mounting nut and wrap plumber’s tape around the handle bolt to fix stripped threads. It’s possible the handle was improperly installed. If that’s the case, you can use the instructions above to correct the handle’s position.

Installation typically takes 1-2 hours. Repairs may require additional time, depending on the issue.

Some of the problems with in-wall toilets include the complex installation, which might need extra framing. It is also more difficult to access the toilet tank for maintenance or troubleshooting because it’s behind the flush button panel and in the wall. Over time, you’ll spend more on maintenance because you’ll need a plumber to work on hidden plumbing.

A standard toilet flange should fit snugly into the outflow pipe and sit level with the subfloor. Installing a new one without first removing the old one will make it impossible to form a seal and keep the toilet bowl bolted securely in place.

However, if you’re dealing with leakage or wobbling because you’ve installed a new type of bathroom tile (making the floor taller), you may be able to avoid fully replacing the flange by opting for a toilet flange extender. Extenders typically come in kits for easy DIY installation, fit over the existing flange, and bring the drain connection higher.
