"Short Pump did an awesome job from the outset of this project. Ryan was communicative and thorough in detailing the work involved, and the install techs were exceptionally professional during the installation. Chris, James, and (another) Ryan removed all of the old, moldy ductwork in the crawl space and carefully sealed all of the old floor registers--even non-Short Pump plumbers/handymen who have since been in the crawlspace remarked at what a solid job they did. The new attic ductwork was also installed meticulously, which was no small feat since we have plaster ceilings. All three workers acted as craftsman: planning each step, creating custom pieces for the air return when necessary, and communicating with one another to ensure that there were no mistakes. Ryan verified their work after it was done, and we've now had the system checked at the 2-week and 6-month marks (by Evan and Daniel, respectively). Both times, I was similarly impressed by the techs' intelligence and professionalism. Short Pump didn't give us the cheapest quote for this project, but we went with them since they offered a 10-year labor warranty and had solid reviews. Now I have no doubt that they did a finer job than we would have received with even the more expensive estimates, and my family will continue using them for all our future HVAC projects."

"Mr. FIX IT has a great customer service team that are very helpful and friendly. They keep you informed every step along the way! The installation team of Kevin and Eddie were very professional and possessed ultimate knowledge of their task. They installed a new "Jacuzzi Bath" converting my 40 year old bathtub/shower combination into a beautiful and modern walk in shower! It looks fantastic! I will say that the conversion was not cheap, but quality materials and workmanship never is! I highly recommend "MR. FIX IT" and would not hesitate to use their services in the future! "Tiger C was awesome! They jumped right on my request on a Sunday evening from home advisor. They were out the next day to provide an estimate and were honest and open about what needed to be done to fix my water issue in the crawl. I received 2 other quotes that included work for a full conditioned crawlspace due to standing water under my house. Mr. Candido assured me that what I needed was a french drain, sump pump installed and a new vapor barrier because mine was in bad shape, cut wrong around supports in the first place with a lot of exposed ground and very old. They came in at the best price and gave me the most comfort that the job would be completed right. I signed the contract the next day they received permits on Thursday, started work on Friday, and were done the following Tuesday. The water is gone, my duct work is sweating less or almost none at all by removing the humidity from the crawl from all the water. I could sleep down there now, not really but it looks so much better! I've worked with a lot of contractors over the years and they are one of the best. Highly recommended. Keep up the great work!"

"Insulating a crawl space is incredibly expensive (especially for a space that hardly anybody ever sees or goes into), but they did a good job and it has helped in keeping the pipes warmer in winter and reducing damp feeling inside the house."

Affordable Plumbers questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can absolutely remove rust from a bathtub drain, and doing so can improve the appearance of your tub. Combine three parts baking soda with one part vinegar and mix into a paste. Apply the paste over the drain and let it sit for about an hour before rinsing with cold water. Repeat the process if some rust stains remain. If the stains return, consider installing a water softener, as ongoing issues with bathtub drain rust usually indicate hard water.

Never pour used motor oil down the drain. Doing so can have serious environmental consequences, including contaminating groundwater, endangering animals, and killing vegetation. It can also clog your pipes, causing backups in your plumbing or the wastewater treatment plant. In most places, pouring motor oil down the drain is illegal, whether you do it in your home or a storm drain.

There are three main types of shower valves: pressure-balancing, thermostatic, and diverter. Pressure-balancing and thermostatic valves are both considered mixing valves because they regulate water flow and temperature, but they do so in different ways. A pressure-balancing valve senses changes in water pressure, such as from a flushing toilet, and adjusts the incoming hot and cold water to maintain a consistent temperature; these typically use a single knob. A thermostatic valve uses a thermostat to precisely control the water temperature and requires a separate control to adjust the water volume. A diverter valve directs the flow of water from one fixture to another, such as switching from a tub faucet to a showerhead in a tub-shower combination.

No, the pink ring in your toilet bowl isn’t a hard water stain but a type of bacteria called Serratia marcescens. This bacteria can also cause pinkish stains in other areas of your bathroom, like around your tub, shower curtains, and faucets. Thankfully, it’s considered to be harmless. However, if you or anyone in your household is immunocompromised, it can cause issues like urinary tract infections. You can clean the pink ring with bleach and a plastic brush. Wear gloves and goggles when using bleach, and always work in a well-ventilated room.

You might think it’s OK to ignore a faucet that drips if it’s not too bad, but doing so can cause more damage. A leaky faucet can also increase water bills and potentially attract bugs and other pests to your home. When you find a water leak, it can result in water damage to your home, which can cause structural issues and mold growth.
