"Four (4) movers arrived within the promised timeframe and immediately set to work readying my baby grand piano for the move. The workers were efficient, professional, and handled my piano with care. I was impressed with how well the workers performed their job as a team, especially when negotiating several steps and setting up the piano in my new place."

"I'm having trouble finding the right words to describe our experience with Potomac Moving Company, but "amazing" and "game changers" come to mind. This was an interstate move (DC to PA) in less-than-ideal conditions (we had to move an adult family member out of the apartment). The crew, Roberto and Harry, were empathetic, caring, and incredibly efficient with packing, loading, and unloading the one-bedroom apartment. I spent the day worrying (needlessly) that the storage unit I had rented was too small. The crew fit all of the items neatly and safely into a 5x10' unit with room to spare. I've never seen anything like it. I also want to give kudos to the front office. They were the first company to respond to my inquiry, answered all of my questions patiently, and kept us informed about when the crew was arriving. The value that we received for the price was off the charts. Put Potomac Moving Company at the top of your list. I would not hesitate to call them again for a move if the"

"I was conducing an in-town move, with both locations about 1 mile apart. I was mainly looking just to have the heavy furniture moved, while I moved the smaller items (clothes, kitchen stuff, etc) myself. I contacted three companies for an estimate, per usual. I wasn't sure what to expect given COVID-19 issues, but most handled it either through a video chat or me providing a detailed description of what I had. I'm not sure if this was just because of the pandemic, or if that is how companies do it now...but I figured I'd add that detail. Carmack and one other Angie's List provider were pretty close in cost comparison and reviews. I had a better gut with Carmack, so went ahead with them. Communication through the process was great, and Jim was able to answer any questions I had. I did purchase the extra insurance - even though the move was so close, I didn't want to have to gamble on major damage. The moving crew showed up promptly the morning of the move. They took very good care to wrap the furniture as they moved, and were extremely careful about the walls, floors, and railings. I was very happy with that, because I was leaving a rental unit and didn't want to risk my security deposit! The crew was very nice and polite. They asked questions if they wanted to know how they should handle something. They also wanted to make sure I had visibility on anything that already had damage/scratches, which I was fine with. In most cases I pointed it out pre-damaged items anyway. When they packed up the rental, there were just a couple VERY minimal dents in one of the stairwells, because I had some pretty difficult furniture for a curving staircase. They were well prepared and repaired the dents in no time. I told them I'd paint, since I had the paint on hand anyway. When we got to the new place, they were great with moving things where they needed to go, and set everything up. They removed a couple doors to ensure they had proper clearance, and put them back at the end. It was easier moving into the new place than moving out of the old one! Here too, the crew was respectful and careful not to damage anything. They were very personable and pleasant guys, and I'm happy to have worked with them! The finished in the amount of time estimated too, which was impressive. This was my first interaction with a moving company that seemed to take the level of care with your furniture as you would yourself. I'd definitely use them again, and recommend to others! The cost of the job does not include the extra ~$300 I paid for the additional insurance coverage, since that was an optional upgrade."

"I contacted American Moving based on the reviews here on Angies List; they were one of three companies I contacted. Mike came out to the house to look things over and talk through the details of my move requirements; most of the bids were all virtual, this personal touch did make a difference. The price he quoted ended up being right in the middle of the other bids and I went with them. Moving day was scheduled on a day that was calling for TERRIBLE weather and Mike was able to accommodate my request to move the date up by a day which was perfect. The movers were super punctual, super professional and so helpful as some of the "where to put things" decisions were not all worked out. They were patient and also so pleasant to work with. It took 10 hours for the entire move and it went flawlessly in my opinion. I would use American Moving & Storage again and would highly recommend them."

Moving questions, answered by experts

On average, it may take around three to five hours to complete the process of moving a hot tub, from disconnecting and draining it to actually moving it. The time required for hot tub moving depends on various factors, including the tub's size, accessibility, and distance to the new location.

When moving yourself, you should consider the non-monetary costs, such as time spent and physical and mental stress. If you’re packing and moving every box on your own, or with the help of a few volunteers, you can expect the process to take several days or even weeks. While it’s a less expensive option than hiring full-service movers, keep in mind that the process will be much more difficult.

No, homeowners insurance does not typically cover moving expenses. Homeowners insurance provides coverage and pay-outs if you experience damage to the home you currently live in. You’ll need to save separately for moving expenses like hiring movers, renting a tow truck, or shipping your belongings.

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer to how far you can move your house. Interstate moves will involve additional permits and regulations, with some states having different requirements than others. The most important factor relating to the distance you can move a house is the route that has to be taken to get there. In areas with narrow, winding roads, hilly terrain, and low-clearance bridges, it can be very difficult and expensive to move a home long distances.

It’s rare to rent moving straps alone. Typically, you buy them outright. However, if you rent moving equipment, like loading tools or a furniture dolly, from a local or big-box business, they may come with moving straps for you to use.
