Small jobs welcome

"Ortiz electrical did an excellent job diagnosing my electrical issues. Once the issues were diagnosed, they offered a reasonable price to complete the repairs. They completed the repairs efficiently while demonstrating what was being repaired and why. The bonus, they cleaned up their mess afterwards. I will save Ortiz electrical services card and definitely call them for any future electrical repairs."

"It was difficult for me to describe what type of wire had been severed by a previous work crew -- who never bothered to tell me that they had cut a wire while they jack-hammered my back concrete deck --  so we agreed that when the electrician had another job in my area, he would stop by to assess my workscope.  He did that on Friday -- fortunately I was here because I got no call in advance  -- and he concluded that the work could be performed at that time.  The wire was reconnected and tested to see if all of the electricity-consuming featured in the gazebo worked.  Not all did, but that was the fault of the appliance, not the work performed by the electrician.  I asked that, as an extra service, he tack up another electrical line so that I wouldn't sever it when I mowed along the edge and under my deck, and he did so cheerfully.  The two-man crew was here for a bit more than an hour and accomplished what I had asked him to do in the Angie's List Big Deal, which was two man-hours of electrical work of any kind.  I have greater peace of mind now that my dogs can play in the back yard without my worrying that they will come in contact with a live wire..

Customers say: True professional

"Excellent. James has been providing electrical services for us for five years+. All of his work was completed as promised, on time, and NEVER had to be redone. We would never have anyone else provide electrical service for us. His next assignment from us will be to move our dining room chandelier and upgrade outlets in our garage."

"Amazing and Awesome Company. They did an awesome job. Juan, Jose and Walter were very attention to detail and professional. They respected my home and made sure to cleanup after the install. I have hired electrician before but Omnicom exceeded my expectations. This company is very honest and the prices are very competitive. I will definitely hire them for all my electrical work going forward. I will highly recommend this company to everyone."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

A ground wire is not required for GFCI to work. A ground is a third wire in an outlet in addition to the live and neutral wires. It serves as an escape conduit for electricity in case of a short circuit. If a ground wire is present, installers should connect it to the appropriate terminal. Otherwise, a GFCI will work fine without it.

A wire stripping tool is the easiest way to strip sheathing or plastic insulation from electrical wires. A self-adjusting wire stripper cuts and removes the sheathing without damaging the core wire.

Yes, you can daisy chain outlets, which involves connecting multiple outlets in series. However, ensuring the circuit can handle the additional load is important to avoid overloading and tripping the breaker. The total number of outlets on a single circuit should not exceed the recommended limit, typically eight on a 15-amp circuit. Hiring a licensed electrician is always advisable for complex installations or if you're unsure of what to do.

In the United States, home outlets support a standard 15 amps, but you can upgrade per outlet if necessary. Most single-family residential homes have a maximum overall amp rating, usually 100 to 200 amps. Very old houses may have less than 100 amps, but that’s rare. Large homes often come with amp services above 200 amps to support modern lifestyles.

When converting a standard 120-volt outlet to a 240-volt outlet, the only components you can typically reuse are the existing electrical box and the hole in the wall. Everything else—including the wiring, breaker, and receptacle—should be replaced to ensure both safety and efficiency. Appliances designed for 240 volts have different plug configurations that won’t fit into a standard 120-volt outlet, making it necessary to install a compatible 240-volt receptacle. This design helps prevent overloading or underloading the power available to any one outlet or circuit.
