He quickly texted back a proposed price and availability for installation. We added that we also wanted the washing machine shutoff valves replaced and he quickly sent a revised estimate, which was very fair. He and two other plumbers, Paul and Charles, were here on time as scheduled and quickly went to work. In less than an hour and a half, they had run water/drain lines, installed the utility sink and replaced the shut off valves. They were quick, efficient, polite, cleaned everything up as if they had not been here, and shook our hands as they left. We highly recommend Farrell Plumbing as we received a very fair price, excellent service, and a professionally finished product. We couldn't be happier. We interviewed several contractors and did extensive online research before choosing Case to handle our kitchen remodel. We chose them because they quoted a reasonable price (neither the highest nor the lowest), seemed professional, and we liked them. We still think they're nice people who want to do the right thing, but we've come to the conclusion they lack the talent to do so. While Case's planning and management skills were impressive, they weren't enough to overcome poor execution. The bottom line is that no matter how well-intended, nearly every single task they performed required two or three attempts. Even then, they didn't always get it right.
Case initially installed a farm sink into a base cabinet manufactured for that purpose and for some reason used vertical 2x4s nailed into the floor of the cabinet rather than the one piece horizontal wooden support provided by the cabinet manufacturer. Aside from looking completely amateurish, it eliminated any under sink storage potential. The second installer who came suggested our expectations were unreasonable because it is what you do with 'new construction.' We reminded him that at the time of their first attempt, it was new construction. He re braced the sink with a steel horizontal brace/bracket system. It looks better and we regained the lost storage. However, he couldn't do anything to correct the original improper sink placement (set too far in and crooked) without risking damage to the stone countertop. Our cabinet people ordered new trim at their own expense and made three additional trips in an effort to help camouflage the improper placement.
Case's first and second attempts at our subway tile backsplash behind our range were so poorly done (large gaps, crooked lines, uneven placement) they had to be removed - drywall and all - and reinstalled. The installer blamed the lousy job on the plumbing that ran behind the backsplash surface. That 'defective surface' was previously a pass-through (i.e., no pipes) to our den that just a few days earlier he had framed in and drywalled. A different installer was sent for the third attempt. He did a nice job.
Our range hood is flanked by two open front cabinets. The screws used to install the hood were too long, and thus noticeably protruded through the adjoining open cabinets. We agreed that if Case would change out the screws and spackle the holes, we'd touch up the holes using paint we'd purchased for our crown moulding. Not sure what motivated the second installer to fill the holes with tile grout, but we've not wanted to sand off the big swatches of contrasting grout for fear we'll damage the painted finish of the cabinets.
This was our third kitchen remodel, so we know from experience not to sweat the small stuff. The other three were in different cities or we'd have used the same contractor. If our dissatisfaction were limited to minor frustrations with Case (e.g., missing a connection on the warming oven (prompting two service calls - one for the appliance rep and one for the electrician who missed the connection), multiple attempts to get the gas line to maintain pressure, twice neglecting to order replacement tile, and failing to pick up the grout prior to coming to grout), this could easily have been a recommendation rather than a warning. This experience went well beyond the small stuff.
You might get lucky with Case and get someone who gets it right the first time, but, judging from our experience, the odds won't be in your favor. Do you want to risk it?

Filled out a form online to request a free estimate in early-April. Estimator came out about a week later, took some pictures, and provided a quote via email to repair the sidewalk. I replied back that I'd like the void beneath the front porch filled in as well, and received a modified estimate within a day. After a little procrastinating on my part, I set up an appointment via email. They told me that I didn't need to be present for the work, but opted to stay home that day should any issues come up. They arrived right on time, and started work promptly. Approximately 2-3 hours later, they knocked on the door to tell me they were done. Sidewalk was leveled and felt very solid. I was definitely pleased with their work. The invoice arrived via email (lots of email communication, which is fine with me) a few days later with a link to pay by check. I opted to pay with a credit card, which involved calling their billing department (a minor hassle... would prefer to pay online, but not that big a deal). Overall, a very good experience with a professional organization. Recommend. The average cost to hire a handyman ranges from about $40 to $140 per hour. Average project cost ranges between $180 and $700, but the cost per hour and per project depends heavily on the type, size, and complexity of the project. The pro’s experience level and your location also factor into how much a handyman charges per hour or per project. You can also expect to pay higher rates or additional fees for emergency services, or around periods of high customer demand, like holidays.
Yes, most states require plumbers to be licensed, and for good reason. Hiring an unlicensed plumber could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations.
As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:
The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check
Required to have applicable state and local licenses
Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review
Paying to advertise their services
Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi
Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.
The average cost to unclog a drain is around $200, with prices ranging between $110 and $800, depending on the type of drain and the extent of the clog. Hiring a professional to snake the toilet or sink will usually cost between $110 and $275, a bathtub or shower typically costs around $225, and a main line clog can cost between $100 and $800 based on the severity of the clog and how far beyond the access point the clog sits. Since the labor involved varies, most plumbers will charge an hourly rate for drain cleaning.
Yes, you should hire a handyman who’s licensed, certified, and insured, if possible. States have different requirements for handyman licensing, registration, and certifications. If licensing is required in your area, you may pay more for a licensed handyman with experience than one who is not licensed or certified, but you’re likely to get a better end result for your project. Be sure to check our state licensing tool to review the local handymen guidelines.
The average cost to hire a plumber is around $100 an hour but can vary between $45 and $200 an hour depending on the plumber’s experience and the repair that you need. It’s also important to note that these prices can go up on holidays, and emergency plumber rates average $150 per hour, in addition to a flat-rate trip fee of $100 to $350.
