"Due to strong winds, a piece of siding near the roof had come loose. This company came out the same day we put in a request for an estimate. The repair was done quickly. Mr Shim also spent time with us discussing replacing all the siding on the house. He listened carefully and offered great suggestions. He Beas very easy to work with."

Small jobs welcome

"Eddy did a great job repairing the siding on our house after the recent wind storm. His prices were very reasonable and he showed up on time to give me a quote and fast in getting the siding repaired within the next two days after the quote was given. The only negative small item not taken care of was he told me he'd put a little silicone caulking on a small tear in the siding but it never got done. Not a big deal as I was able to do it easily myself."

"Again as above Mike is extremely knowledgeable re siding and is an insurance adjuster. He was familiar with my house issue, warped siding caused by heat reflecting from neighbor's window. He was really helpful in giving pros and cons re repair when selling! I highly recommend Mike for siding issues"

Siding questions, answered by experts

The recommended PSI (pounds per square inch) for cleaning vinyl siding can vary, so it's best to consult the manufacturer's guidelines. Generally, vinyl siding can handle high pressure, from 2,500 to 3,500 PSI. For comparison, more delicate materials like wood and aluminum siding should not face more than 1,500 PSI. To safely disperse the pressure on vinyl, use a tip with a wider spray span, such as a green (25-degree) or yellow (15-degree) nozzle. For routine cleaning of light dirt, a garden hose with a spray nozzle may be sufficient. Always exercise caution to avoid using excessive pressure that could damage the siding.

You can put new siding over clapboards, but it’s not recommended. Some sidings, like vinyl siding, can go over clapboards with sheathing like a foam layer in between. However, it’s best to remove clapboard siding if you plan on replacing it with new siding. Burying wood clapboards underneath new siding can create risks of rot and mold, or hidden insect damage. It can also create warping issues over time. Removing clapboards allows you to properly install a new sheathing, as well as clean up the exterior wall and look for any signs of damage.

The telltale signs that your home is ready for repointing include visibly damaged bricks, crumbling bricks, flaking bricks, loose mortar, cracked mortar, gaps between brick and mortar, leaking inside your home, and visible water damage. Consider repointing when going over brick house pros and cons if you're buying a new home. Repointing is also a good idea if you plan to paint, acid wash, or stain your brick home, as it will give you a good base for coloration and prevent repairs after the work is done.

Insulated vinyl siding costs about twice as much as the cheapest form of vinyl siding, but it’s still more affordable than other types of siding, including fiber cement, wood, stone, and brick. You get a lot of bang for your buck with vinyl siding; it’s durable, it’s available in a wide range of styles and colors, and it helps lower your energy bills.

While homeowners' insurance can include coverage for siding, general wear and tear of siding is not covered. If your siding is rotting—especially because you haven’t kept up with proper siding maintenance—replacement siding will likely not be covered by your homeowners' insurance policy. Instead, insurance generally covers siding repair or replacement if your siding has been damaged by extreme weather, vandalism, fire, or some kind of collision, like by a vehicle.
