"Josue was extremely professional and an overall pleasure to work with. He and his team always arrived promptly, and regularly communicated with me regarding their progress and anticipated completion date. The project involved removal of a popcorn ceiling and installation of new insulation and drywall. The space was left spotless upon completion. I highly recommend Josue and his team!"

"Thaen of DunnRite Handyman Services is truly a master at his craft. We contracted with him first to replace our upstairs tub/shower (plus some unrelated ceiling drywall work) and he did just an amazing job. He ran into some significant challenges - primarily because of working in such a tight space - but he worked thru them as if he could have done it in his sleep. Having done such a good job on the upstairs, we then also had him replace the shower downstairs. He ran into even more challenging issues and again proved to be unfazed thru it all. He even took on the task of repairing our roof after the big winds came recently and was not thrown off of his intended timeline on the shower. With Dunn Rite you are definitely paying for experience, but also for someone that will put in the extra effort to ensure the workmanship and the customer experience is top-notch. I'll be calling DunnRite for any future handyman work, for sure!"

Customers say: Quick response

"I had a small roof repair job and was having a hard time finding a handyman/contractor that would return my calls or just schedule a time to go out. Within minutes of putting my add on homeadvisor.com I was contacted by Wayne who referred me to his son Scott who did a fabulous job! I was so impressed by his level of professionalism and the job he did for the price. I would definitely recommend!"

Drywall questions, answered by experts

There are a few ways to figure out if your walls are plaster or drywall, but the pushpin method is probably the easiest option. To try it, choose a part of your wall where you can insert a pushpin or thumbtack without leaving an obvious mark. If it goes in easily, you have drywall. But if the wall is tough to penetrate, that’s plaster.

Drying alone can take 1 to 4 hours to dry to the touch per plaster layer, but some types of plaster take several hours longer to dry. However, this doesn’t mean the job is done because plaster doesn’t fully harden until it cures, which can take a few days to a couple of weeks. It may take even longer if you’re building a new, pretty thick plaster wall. Allow the plaster to cure before painting it.

Whether Venetian plaster increases your home's value often depends on the buyer's preference. As a purely aesthetic upgrade, it doesn't add structural value in the same way a kitchen or bathroom remodel might. However, its beautiful and attractive appearance can make a home more appealing to potential buyers, possibly leading to more interest, higher offers, and increased competition when you sell.

The easiest way to tell if a wall is load bearing is to check if it’s an exterior wall or if it runs perpendicular to the joists above and below it (or parallel to beams). Exterior walls are almost always load-bearing, and walls that run under beams or parallel to them are also usually load-bearing. There are exceptions to these rules, and walls that don’t fit into these categories can still be load-bearing. If you’re unsure, hire a structural engineer to look at your home to assess whether or not the wall is structural.

The easiest way to cut holes in drywall for electrical boxes is to use a spiral saw with a drywall router bit. Hang the drywall without cutting out a hole for the box, but make sure you measure and mark where the box is located on the wall. Once you screw in the drywall sheet, drill a small hole into the box void, insert the spiral saw bit, and move it around the edge of the box using the inside wall as a guide. You can also use an oscillating multi-tool with an electrical box cutout for fast, professional results.
