"First, according to Rockbridge, one of their drivers erroneously delivered a full tank (400 gallons of fuel) to our home without our knowledge or our request. We never received a ticket, or any other proof of delivery. Still, they insisted we were responsible for the charges, and they even summoned us to court for non payment. We refused to pay, and they begrudgingly dropped the summons. After the non delivery issue was settled, we agreed to start with a clean slate. We decided to keep Rockbridge as our supplier, giving them the benefit of the doubt. Fast forward to November 2017-January 2018, We called to pay our $348.00 propane bill by phone and order a delivery. We were informed payments were not taken by phone, so we would need to pay COD. No problem. The truck was on the way at 10:30 in the morning. Hours pass. No truck. Finally, we call at 4:30 p.m., and discover that the truck is not coming after all, and we have to pay at the office in Lexington, over 30 minutes away. By this point, over 3 employees have asked for our call back number regarding the delivery. No one bothered to call back, as usual. This business makes the rules as it goes, and the customers are left to suffer. Communication is like ping pong with this place. You will speak with everyone, and no one will know what’s going on. And still, we are terribly aware that we are being punished for a mistake that this business made, even as we agreed to continue the relationship in good faith. And worse, they treat it like a game when temperatures are dangerously cold. Phone calls go unreturned, deliveries are not made- I have not experienced any business so disorganized and childish in my time as a consumer. Worst of all, their practices are dangerous to the people they have a responsibility to serve. Needless to say, avoid this business at all costs. There are plenty of reputable fuel providers in the area."

Heating Oil questions, answered by experts

If a geothermal heat pump is installed correctly, then you shouldn’t have to worry about having a backup heat source such as a furnace or oil boiler. However, there are geothermal systems installed that include a backup in case the heat pump fails due to extreme cold. This is simply a backup heat pump you’ll likely never need and not an alternative heat source.

Yes, many providers offer organic or eco-friendly treatments. Confirm availability with your contractor.

You need to service an HVAC system about twice per year, with a service including an inspection and basic maintenance. It’s best to schedule maintenance in the spring (after the furnace has been running and before the AC kicks on) and in the fall (after the AC worked hard all summer and before winter’s first chill arrives).

Regular HVAC services will keep the system working as efficiently as possible, saving you money on utilities and larger repairs. HVAC maintenance costs around $250 per visit, while bigger repairs from forgotten upkeep could cost thousands.

There are three main types of heat pumps. An air-source heat pump system is the most common and has two parts—an indoor air handler unit and an outdoor heat pump unit. A ductless heat pump system functions similarly to an air-source heat pump system but doesn’t need ductwork to distribute the air. A geothermal heat pump system pulls heat from the ground to help heat your home.

Yes, technicians check refrigerant levels, loop performance, and system calibration for peak efficiency.
