"We are so glad the repair worked out in a positive way & are happy that your A/C is ready for the heat arriving shortly. Thank you so much for the positive review & hope yuu have a great weekend."
"Thank you so much. having great customers makes the jobs so much easier."
"we appreciate the 5 stars & it's always a pleasure working for you & your family. Have a great weekend"
The work was clean, meticulous and professional. One installer actually folowed himself around with a little vacuum cleaner while cutting ductholes In fact, they had to fix many issues from the last install like poorly cut duct holes, bad wiring to unit and bad placement of outdoor unit. They also, per my request, installed two additional registers and matched the grilles to my specifications. They removed ALL left over ductwork, including misc insulation that I had pulled down the week before.
The original estimate was 8700 and the increase was for the UV light and additional thermostat and new wiring for the oil furnace. Time will ultimately tell if the blue light was worth it. The owners have installed one and swear by it. I do know that the humidifier is already helping (rh up from 21% to 47% in about a week!!)
The company even came back after a few days to recharge the new system and we are already discussing future work on poor second floor ductwork.
"Thank you. As always your family is a pleasure to work with. We Sincerely appreciate your business time and time again."
They informed us that the old pump was slightly undersized for our house and that new ducting would be required as well as a larger air handling unit, which we agreed to replace. The day they were installing it, my wife came home at lunch to find no one there, the house unlocked, and muddy footprints through the house. That was frustrating by itself, but we could forgive their oversight. We even forgave that they didn't provide the case of filters they promised us.
A few weeks after they performed the work, I needed to go into the crawlspace to install some insulation. What I found upset me. They had removed the old ducting, but left it lying everywhere under the house. In addition, they left the condenser pump unplugged, so the area around my air handler was soaking wet. I plugged it in and called, but all I got was an "Oh!"
Later in the winter, the unit wasn't heating well. So they came, and it turned out the the condenser drain hose had frozen up because it was never buried or routed properly. A few days later we were surprised to receive a bill for the service call. This really upset me, so we promptly called them and explained again everything with which we had issues and that we would not be paying this bill.
A month ago, I went into the crawlspace again to check something and found that the air handler was sweating so much that a ring of condensation had formed on everything within 6 ft. of it. I called them and another competitor to come out and advise me. Only the competitor called back. It turns out that the new unit Toms' sold us did require new ducting and a larger air handler but Toms' had not run enough ducting or a large enough air handling unit. This repair is going to cost us another $2,700.
This competitors price to have done the work initially would have been $5,400.
Needless to say, I am infuriated with Tom's Heating & Cooling, and I'm encouraged everyone to stay away from these guys.
P.S.: I've called them three times since speaking with their competitor to see if they would make any of this right, but all I get is the voice mail and no returned calls. The old ducting is still under my house.
"In response to the member's complaint: We were called by the member to give an estimate to replace his HVAC system in April 2009. Upon meeting the member we were told that he was the son in law of the owner's cousin. The member was instructed to call our company because we have done his mother in law's work and her parent's work for the past 20 years. On inspection of the existing system we found the unit to be slightly undersized and the duct board duct work to be filthy and infiltrated with mold. We recommended that the duct be replaced with new metal insulated wrapped ducting because of health issues. The member declined our recommendation to replace the duct. Also, on initial inspection of the exterior of the house and grounds, Mr. Toms noted that there was a serious drainage problem and recommended to the member that the problem should promptly be addressed. On the install day, our technicians took a lunch break and left the job site long enough to grab a burger at a nearby establishment. We left our work our work van at the job site full of tools with no worry that they would be stolen or that anyone would bother anything at the home. As far as the muddy footprints, they were in a muddy crawlspace and we do clean up after ourselves. We most certainly did provide them with a case of free filters and they were personally delivered to the doorstep of the home by myself. The installation was done April 29, 2009. We installed a 3 ton 15 SEER heat pump system with R410 qualifying matched system for the $1500 tax rebate. Since the member declined replacing the duct system, how could there possibly be old duct lying everywhere under the house? On or about May 20, 2009, we received a call from the member that the unit was not operating properly. We immediately responded to his call. Upon arrival, we discovered his crawl space standing in water and the brand new air handler submerged. Several components were damaged. We replaced many parts UNDER WARRANTY, no cost to the member. This unfortunate sitation could have been avoided had the member accepted our recommendation to replace the old ducting which would have allowed us to relocate the placement of the air handler. We have had extremely wet weather, summer rains and winter snows, for the past two years and there is no doubt that the the member's crawl space has been constantly wet. On December 29, 2009 we responded to the member's call and found that once again the crawl space had been flooded. We checked the system out to find it operating perfectly. The member referred to a "condenser drain hose" being frozen because it wasn't buried...There is a condensate pump to carry condensation during the operation of the system in air conditioning mode, however I don't think he was using his AC in December... We did send out a bill for this and he did complain about having to pay so we decided to provide the service call compliments of our company and NOT charge him. The member called us this summer of 2011 and we did not respond to his call. All the recommendations that we have given the member have been declined. His choices have led to this mess that he is now blaming our company for. He does not need a larger unit and yes, he did need a new duct system and this was discussed at our very first estimate with him and he declined that as well. If there is duct still lying under the house, it is not anything we did. We did not feel as though we could help him at this point. I am sorry he is going down a misguided path with whom he calls, "The Competitor". In hindsite, we should have held him responsible for the damage caused to the new air handler and let him pay for replacement parts and our labor to repair it.
