"The crew did a fantastic job trying to correct a previous scrupulous contractor's work. They were courteous & friendly & were truthful about any limitations to their skills. Would definitely recommend."

"It went great. Lots of hiccups with being our own contractor and dealing with multiple subs at once, but Paul and Brandon did a great job being flexible with us. All the work was finished beautifully and exceeded our expectations. They’re southern gentlemen, which made them a pleasure to work with and have in our home."

"I feel extremely fortunate to have found Vicki through Angie's List !  She is an extremely talented person who is very easy to deal with. She has a breath of knowledge that allows her to accommodate my tastes, but also ensure that the overall design is in sync with the design and location of my home.  She has  a very diplomatic way of suggesting when I'm going astray with my choices and in every case where she has told me "Trust Me"  I have been delighted ! She is very aggressive in helping me find the best pricing and often times will work with the vendors directly  hence saving me the time.  She also has excellent local contacts.  Everyone I've worked with through Vicki has been timely, professional, and highly competent.
My project is far from complete.  I intend to continue to use Vicki and her expert advice until the end !!!!"

"Mr. Jeremy Combs was very personable and responsive, and he provided a detailed written estimate of the work we discussed.  When it came time to schedule the work, the crew was several days later than planned.  This was only a problem for us because it meant that one of us had to run home from work at lunchtime to put our dog inside, so the lunchtime trip was made for several days before they actually arrived.  They fixed the leak on their first trip, and then it took another week longer than planned to get the other repairs done.  It is difficult to know about the quality of the work, since we haven't been on the roof, but the leak is definitely stopped.  Mr. Combs made it clear that he would be available for larger jobs, such as storm damage covered by insurance claims, should that happen to us.  He requested 50% payment up front and the balance at the end.  The only unpleasant surprise was the cost of chimney repair/maintenance, but even that wasn't horrible.  He requested the final payment in the form of a cashier's check, since his bank tends to hold personal check deposits for 5 days.  I certainly hope this business can cover more than 5 days of payroll/materials at a time!  I got the impression that the business had been around for some years, and his father had done it before him.
In general, roofing outfits around this area appear to be very sketchy.  I have heard multiple horror stories from friends/colleagues.  I'd give Combs Roofing a solid B+.  They were great about keeping us informed - texting/calling/e-mailing with updates, and answering the phone when called (as in, "Are you going to be at the house today?").  It was a small job, and despite that, they did not leave us in the lurch.

"My customer was thrilled with her new sun room. Mr Goulds input and suggestions really helped me give my customer a really nice addition to her home.
I have used Mr. Goulds services on numerous and various projects over the past  20 years. From framing to trim carpentry, remodeling to home additions.
He is the only subcontractor that I would use if my project required me to be in my customers home and I could not be with them 100% of the time. I have the upmost level of trust in Mr. Goulds.
I rated Mr. Goulds price as Excellent,  however I know you can always find someone that would do the job cheaper. Save yourself alot of time and aggravation. His professionalism and the quality of his work is second to none.
As the old saying goes, "YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR"

"Excellent - I ended up hiring someone to help with shopping and finishing piece - waste of time and money. Jill's service was by far the most useful and best value in my decorating process.

"Extra work was performed with extra expense & not discussed with me. We eventually settled but the roof leaked in 2 separate places. They said they would fix and it was "under warranty ". At least four requests were made to "fix it". They never showed up. I had to pay $2,600 to repair their insufficient workmanship. I would never allow anyone I know to use them."

"Everything went exceptionally well.  The job was done professionally and quickly.  He and his assistant kept at it til the job was done--I don't recall their even taking a break.  This was amazing since all the work was on the second floor and they both had to make innumerable trips up and down the stairs!!  He used the best equipment for the job and gave us a very reasonable price for all the work done.  Now our storage problems are solved, and we are very happy!  I would recommend Mr. Saylor to anyone for any kind of repair, remodeling, or whatever is needed.  He is honest and friendly and has the expertise to do whatever you need done.  We are very fortunate to have found him and his company to help us out and would not consider calling anyone else to do whatever we need done!

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

The cost to convert a carport into a garage averages about $22,000, ranging from about $15,000 and $55,000. Additional cost factors to consider include size, time of year, and how much of the carport you can reuse. Other cost factors include the kinds and amounts of materials used, such as:

  • Add insulation: $1 per square foot

  • Add drywall: $1–$3 per square foot

  • Add window: $450–$2,000 per window

  • Add outlets: $75–$500

  • Add garage door: $250–$11,200

  • Enclose framing: $5–$13 per square foot

  • Replace roofing: $1,000–$2,000

In framing, studs are placed at 16-inch intervals to coincide with the typical spacing of wall materials such as drywall or plywood. This spacing is called "on-center" and is necessary for maintaining structural stability and efficient use of materials. The 16-inch spacing also helps to distribute the weight evenly across the building's structure. For those looking to cut material costs and improve energy efficiency, 24-inch stud spacing can be employed through a method called "advanced framing". This requires careful planning and adherence to local building codes to ensure structural integrity.

An A-frame home can be cheaper to build than a traditional house, but that is not always a given. Prices can be fairly similar in some cases, depending on the location, design, and necessary site preparation. Costs for an A-frame typically run between $100 to $200 per square foot, which is comparable to the cost of a traditional home. The cost of an A-frame can come in under those numbers if you opt for a prefabricated kit.

Your local building code will list all the framing requirements for whatever type of structure you're building. Most exterior walls require spacing of 16 inches on-center, while many non-load-bearing interior walls only require 24 inches of spacing. However, there are also varying requirements depending on your construction material, so checking your municipality's rules is essential.

Costs depend on desk size, labor, included features like drawers or motorized height adjustments, and required wall anchoring.
