"After listening to my needs and concerns Alex designed me a perfect TRANE system to ensure my home stayed cool and comfortable. The install team was professional and courteous. They made sure to listen and comply with any special concerns I had (I'm kind of OCD) before they started any work. The install was done in a timely manner and they ensured that they cleaned up everything before they left. Before deciding on Total, I had talked to other companies and received other quotes. In conjunction with all the "extras" Total does standard (like drawing a permit), Alex delivered me a better system, for the money, than anyone else by far. It is hard to be excited about spending this much money on an AC system but when it hit the hottest day of the year (thus far) and my upstairs was still sitting at a cool 71, I was smiling from ear to ear. I highly recommend this company."

"They quoted a fair price, arrived well within the time frame they said they would (it was same-day service), and were courteous, professional, and thorough.  I would not hesitate to use them again, or recommend.

**Update from yesterday**  Bit of serendipity--I found my receipt from the previous water heater installation in 1996.  Davis had done that one as well.  They did a great job then, and they did this time as well.  Wish I'd found it to show Sean--he said our place looked familiar."

"My heat pump had gone on the fritz just before I went out of town on May 20th. As soon as I returned on the 23rd I went about contacting contracting to get prices. I met with Lee, from ARS, on the 24th and agreed to a deal for a Carrier purchased through Home Depot. The installation was started and completed on 5/29. Great to have cool air again and lower electric bills. Would definitely use again but I suspect this unit may outlast me."

"They are the best!! Jeremy was tasked to reinstall plumbing for a bath tub. My previous contractor totally messed up the install causing a bad leak. Although it took a while, Jeremy was not to be outdone. He found and diagnosed the problem caused by the previous contractor and persevered on until it was correctly remedied to his satisfaction!! I really admired his patience and dedication. Thanks again, Jeremy!!!"

Install Boiler questions, answered by experts

Yes. Boilers need water to run without overheating, also known as dry firing. If you run it without a sufficient volume of water, either because of a burst pipe or a leak, you run the risk of damaging your machine or jeopardizing the safety of your home as a whole. When in doubt, shut off your boiler and repair any plumbing issues before turning it back on. Alternatively, consider installing a low-water cutoff (LWCO) before any issues arise. This gadget will protect your boiler by monitoring water levels and automatically shutting it off if it gets too low.

If you go to turn it counterclockwise and it won’t turn anymore, it’s open. Like most other valves, you should be able to turn a radiator valve counterclockwise (to the left) to open it and clockwise (right) to close it. To close a radiator valve, turn it clockwise until you meet some resistance and can’t turn anymore, but do so carefully to avoid breaking the valve.

A common HVAC rule is that for every 500 to 600 square feet of living space, you need 1 ton of heating or cooling capacity. Now that you know this common rule, you also need to know that it isn’t very accurate, and a dedicated pro wouldn’t use it for your home. If you talk to a pro who won’t or can’t perform a proper Manual J calculation, consider hiring someone more thorough.

Yes. In many cases, switching from an old furnace to a high-efficiency boiler can help you save money over time. You can also save money by switching from an electric boiler to a gas boiler, which costs much less compared to the energy bills an electric boil can create. Boilers are often (but not always) more efficient than furnaces, too. Then there are discounts, rebates, and incentives that can help you save on the initial costs.

The primary differences between a heat pump and a boiler are their function and how they produce heat. A heat pump is a versatile system that provides both heating and cooling by moving ambient air and altering its temperature. In contrast, a boiler is solely a heating system, often working with a furnace or AC unit as part of a larger HVAC system. In terms of heat production, a heat pump generates heat more slowly and at a lower temperature, requiring a large convector for distribution. A boiler, however, produces a large amount of high-temperature heat that it emits through smaller radiators.
