"The locksmith technician Larry was right on time and did the required work within an hour. He is a pro at what he does and you could tell from his work ethos. Plus the Angie's List discount coupon was honored as well.

"GREAT PLACE!  Two years ago, a neighbor recommended Baldino's when I wanted to change the locks on my home.  Their Clarendon branch performed that service (promptly and with great customer service!).
This time, I needed to unlock a pricey suitcase that I inadvertently locked while I was changing the lock's combination.  I called the manufacturer first.  They suggested that perhaps a locksmith could do it, sparing me the $75 it would cost me to ship it to them for repair.  So, I called Baldino's main line, explained the problem, and they recommeneded Chris at the Landmark location.  They said he was one of their most experienced locksmiths, and they were sure he could handle this. And he did!  Took him only a few minutes. Both Chris and the colleague he was working with at the shop (part time, retired Pentagon guy) were very polite, friendly, answered my questions and didn't make me feel silly for accidently locking the suitcase!  I'd go back anytime.  I'll be sure to use them for any future needs.

"Joseph/Tivoli Locksmith is a first-class company that provided prompt attention, thorough service, and exceptional outcome. I called on 9/2 to request a site visit to look at a faulty outer gate lock to my DC rowhouse. Joseph (the Proprietor) answered the call and let me pick the day and time for him to come out to my house. I selected the next day (9/3) @ 2pm. At 1:35pm Joseph was at my house and calling me to make me aware tht he was there. I hadn't returned from errands yet and asked that he look at the faulty lock until I arrived. Once I arrived he was positive and courteous, and quickly offered an assessment for the lock issue. He provided a quote of $125 if he were able to fix the existing lock. After earnest attempts to fix the existing lock he informed me that it had some fatal flaws and offered to install a replacement lock for $175, with a $25 discount. I was pleased with this option/offer and gave him the go-ahead to proceed. He quickly installed the lock and even provided a custom fit for the bolt to drive in to since the door frame of the gate was so old and had insufficient wood to support a robbery proof solution. This he did at no extra charge, but I had added piece of mind!"

"After getting locked out of the house one evening, we called ER Locksmith because they were local and had good reviews here.  We were not disappointed.  Although it was outside of normal business hours, our call was answered, our information was taken and we were told we would be contacted by a technician shortly.  About 2 minutes later, the technician called us and said he could be there in 10 minutes!!  He was right on time, and he had the door open in less than 10 minutes."

"Choice responded quickly but the insurance plan does not pay for all doors to be re-keyed unless you have very few locks. The number of locks covered by the insurance is determined by keyholes, not doors! (Read your policy!) You will likely have to shell out some money to have this essential new-home service if you have more than four keyholes. The locksmith they called was EXCELLENT and made all our locks completely functional. We will happily hire the locksmith again (R.L Locksmith LLC). We paid $201.81 (plus another $50 for some door re-alignment not included in the re-keying benefit) and Choice paid $100 for the job."

"This company truly merits their "A" rating on Angie's List.  Professional, courteous, responsive and reasonable.  I couldn't be more pleased with my experience with them.  Unfortunately the only thing they can't do, it seems, is wave a magic wand and make the mold go away, but if anyone could I think it would be them!
Wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone facing this nightmare of a problem.  Thank you, Oscar, Jon and Danelle in particular.

"Gary and his partner Trevor were terrific! They took on a variety of odd jobs, presented a reasonable estimate, and completed the jobs promptly and to my great satisfaction. I would hire them in an instant for other jobs, big or small."

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

There are several ways to add security to a sliding glass door. To start, install a rod or deadbolt lock instead of the flip-lock that comes standard with most sliding glass doors. Add a sensor to the door and monitor any activity through your home security system.

Finally, installing shatterproof window film will help keep the structural integrity of the glass if it cracks.

Smart locks offer a similar level of safety to traditional or conventional locks because they often use comparable locking mechanisms, such as deadbolts. The primary difference is the access method: smart locks use a login or code instead of a physical key, which adds convenience. While not inherently safer, some smart locks have added security features that can deter intruders, like shutting down after too many incorrect code attempts or being harder to pick. For the best security, it's recommended to combine any lock with other home safety features like motion-activated lighting, security cameras, and window and door sensors.

Most door knobs can be removed with a Phillips or flathead screwdriver. If you don’t have either of those available, a paper clip or small pin can sometimes work, but the extra effort may not be worth a quick trip to the hardware store.

Whether or not keyless door locks are safe and trustworthy depends on the visibility of the programming code—and a trespasser’s determination. Even if you carefully guard entry and programming codes, those trying to break in may be able to crack open the lock’s faceplate with a screwdriver and change the codes. The same goes for manual models.

Some find smart locks the safest option because it’s harder to manipulate codes without access to your phone. But it’s possible to get hacked even then. Consider installing an extended security system, like door and window alarms or surveillance cameras, to enhance security.

The cost-effectiveness of fixing or replacing a door lock depends on the severity of the issue. Repairing a minor problem, such as loose screws or a need for lubrication, is usually cheaper than replacing the entire lock. However, replacing the lock if it is severely damaged, outdated, or lacks security features may be a better long-term investment. New locks often have improved security features, enhancing your property's safety.
