From concept to completion Elite strived to fulfill our vision of the porch while maintaining FFC’s strict requirements for the new ALU/Tiny House rental. Once the permit was approved, work began and continued until the new house and porch were complete. Elite has their own crews, and they are amazing in every way! Ken was on-site each day to address any concerns, and Ana worked tirelessly behind the scenes on permitting and design. Top-most was the concern to create our vision of the porch, and Elite exceeded anything we could have imagined on both the porch and tiny house. Thank you Ken and Anashow more

  This is the second project we have hired Phoenix Homes Services (PHS) for, the first was a complete remodel of our bathroom which we still love. This time we worked with them to convert our garage to a brand-new room with full bath, laundry closet, and bonus shelving. The timeline for the project from start to finish has been about 6 months. In June we did an initial walk through with one of the principals to discuss options. Having worked on many homes in our neighborhood and in the area, he is well versed on some of the challenges that occur with remodeling older homes. As part of the walk through he explained areas that may require extra attention like electrical and foundations. This helped set expectations for the project and gave us information to use to set up a contingency fund as a backup plan. Once a general concept was agreed upon, we established the contract and began work on the design. The initial design from the designer really highlighted the possibility of the space. He patiently worked with us to adjust it so it perfectly fit our needs. Communication was good as they worked the permit process, and we got lucky that construction could start a couple of weeks earlier than planned (not guaranteed by PHS, it was truly luck). Demolition work can be loud and chaotic. Since we were living and working from home during this process. PHS made sure the site was as orderly a possible and did what they could to accommodate our meeting schedules. We also received assistance with picking finishes and items for the space. As warned, issues were identified with the electrical and foundation. Because of the initial prep discussion, we were prepared and able to work with PHS on a solution that brought everything up to code and would support the room. We were provided weekly email updates on the status of the project and the crew showed up on time every day. Each step of the project was explained, and recommendations were presented so we could make the decision that was best for us. Everyone we worked with was kind and patient, which is so important when involved in something that can create so much anxiety. Our project was completed within the timeline provided. One of the nicest surprises was with the bonus shelving, which I just asked to be built. Because PHS focuses on the details, the shelving was solidly built and painted. I was able to begin using it while the rest of the project was completed. Overall, we are ecstatic with the results; everyone has expressed how lovely it is. The process was well managed, and we would definitely work with them on any future renovations we needshow more

  Matt is a very kind person whose team was very nice to work with. They were respectful, clean, trustworthy, and made sure they listen to our wishes and concerns. They worked very hard so we could move in before Christmas. The projects after that were slower but we had added several projects in the process and overall they got everything accomplished in about 4 months. Matt always reacted on time to e-mails and calls. Sometimes is was hard to reach his team to find out when they would be coming and what they would work on but one call to Matt and he made sure we got a reply. Green products and limited chemicals were very important to us and his team not only respected that but also collaborated with us which products to use. We had a major water problem in the basement and they were able to fix it with additional drains, a sump pump and a successful concepts to redirect the water from the house. We have had a lot of rain so far and the basement has been dry, yeah! The built-in closets were done by a different team and took more time than we expected. They didn't turn out the way we wanted but Matt worked with us on that, reduced the price and had the team do some changes. We heard many horror stories about other contractors from friends so we were worried starting this big project. Overall we had a very good experience with Willis Builder. The majority of projects were done very nicely and to our satisfaction and Matt was willing to work with us on the couple things we were not so satisfied with. We also know, should there be anything in the future, Matt will not hesitate to come and fix it. We would work with him and his team anytime againshow more

  My garage was damaged when a severe windstorm dropped a 22 inch diameter tree limb on it's roof. It's structure was compromised as well as the roof. I contacted Willis Builders via Angies List and the very next morning was paid a visit by Mr. Rob Morris. We spoke at length and plans were set in motion to begin repairs. My insurance company was reluctant to issue the necessary monies required and, here is where Willis Builders stepped up and went to bat for me. After 3 months waiting and repeated meetings with insurance claims adjusters Rob argued their point and secured the proper funds so work could begin. Once work started it was swift and performed with absolute professionalism. Being a retired member of the hard-hat construction industry of more than 38 years I was most impressed by Willis Builders employees skill set. Each and every detail was seen to accurately and exceeded my expectations at every turn. The final finished product is over the top and I couldn't be more satisfied. They truly provided a "well done job" that I genuinely believe is above and beyond what I would have received from any other building contractor in my area. From the workers obvious knowledge of their trade to their polite and accommodating performance to the fair and just pricing of the overall job, I cannot say enough good things about Willis Builders and wouldn't hesitate to refer them to friends and family alikeshow more

  We met with Willis sometime in early January. We met with several different builders for this job and found Matt to be the most personable and willing to talk through different ideas. Our build was somewhat unique in that we already had the design in our heads, and we wanted some unique features. Matt was extremely accommodating and interested in working with us to figure out the right way to do things. You could tell that he was evaluating us as customers just as surely as we were evaluating him and his team, and we liked that. We had Leo as our Project Manager for the whole project. Leo was incredibly professional, knowledgeable and skillful. His abilities and work ethic set us at ease immediately. We had a team of 3 at our house most days, all very personable and great, with that number jumping up to 4 or 5 on busy days as necessary. Our arrangement was for a set labor fee for the main piece of the work and hourly labor fees for any additional special features we outlined. This setup worked well for us as we knew we would want some special "upgrades" and we'd be able to deal with that cost and hour estimates up front, or choose to forego it if we decided it was too expensive. All of the standard work was done extremely well. Demolition was done quickly and cleanly. We have a 1 year old and they were very particular to cover all vents and doorways to keep the mess in the basement. Willis did all the electrical and plumbing in house. In fact, the only parts of the job that were outsources were some minor brickwork (to a professional mason), the stairs, and the carpet. Everything else was done by Willis themselves. This was great as the same guys were at the house most days, which made us feel very comfortable. My wife and I made some drawings of what we wanted for our special features, and the guys used these extensively as a guide to make things the way we wanted. The special features were: A secret door hidden behind a large bookshelf - all custom built on a wood door core, with hidden hinges and magnetic close. Opens easily and holds tons of books A large wood bar - Willis hooked us up with Exotic Lumber in Gaithersburg and we got a massive slab of bubinga for the bar top A reading nook under the stairs for our kids A built in entertainment unit and shelves built into already existing brick. The secret door especially is a thing of beauty. All work was done extremely well. They were very timely and very communicative at all steps of the project. I think the biggest hurdle for large projects like this is communication. Leo and Matt both were great about this, and it's important to remember that it's also the responsibility of the owners to make sure things get done properly. We had a couple of _very_ minor hurdles with communication in dealing with the subcontractors. Specifically, the wrap around steps weren't done the way we wanted at first and the mason came about a week later than expected. But in a large project like this, minor hiccups will happen and it was still handled very well. Willis made little recommendations along the way that will be helpful in the future. Since we want to redo our kitchen in a few years, we ran additional wires over to the kitchen in preparation so we won't have to knock out the ceiling later. We didn't want a louvered door to our furnace room, so they added a louvered vent for ventilation. We added some outdoor outlets onto the project, which was no problem. I plan to use Willis again in the future for at least our kitchen and possibly a couple of other projects.   They were great and they were easy to work with. They were very attentive and cooperative, and they were very nice people. Matthew Willis, the owner, has his own people rather than subcontractors so you get a good feeling about the work. They straightened out everything that needed to be; they were fine with taking down what they had and putting it up how I wanted it because I was keeping track of their work while they were doing it instead of having them change things in the end.   From start to finish, my experience with Matthew Willis and his team was excellent. They were upfront about their estimates and great to work with in terms of communication and updates. William and Tiago were the leads on the job. They were wonderful, flexible and gave us different ideas. We were told the work would take 6 to 8 weeks for the job to be completed and they were done on time. All our materials were purchased from Home Depot and Lowes and they really were detailed about keeping receipts. Overall, we would definetly hire these guys again. Great Workshow more
