"Robert called when he was enroute and arrived early. Hired him as an electrician for the day. During the day he replaced 2 ceiling fans and replaced 5 outside lights on the porch, garage, and back porch. He replaced a fuse for the ceiling fan, and changed out the front doorbell switch after trouble shooting it. He replaced a smoke detector and he replaced two light fixtures in our bathrooms. After completing all electrical work early, he gladly changed out a faucet in the powder room, and put up new 3-piece bathroom fixtures in all three bathrooms. All in a day's work. Robert was very professional the entire period and only stopped work after his 7 hours were up. Would gladly recommend his proficient and professional service. Terry Reid (Col USMC retired)"
"First of all let me say you will not regret having these guys work for you. Stanley Gibson, one of the owners, was who I dealt with at first. He was great. He showed up on time for meetings, responded to all my questions in a timely fashion and was able to provide me with examples and great references. In the early spring, prior to the start of this project, I had researched column wrap products out there extensively before moving forward with actually having vendors come out for bids and ideas. As usual, I referred to Angie's List and called some of the best rated vendors. I've got to tell you, we were thoroughly unimpressed. They came out and talked a big game, but when it came time to tell us what products they wanted to use they couldn't give us an example of one house that we could go look at, where they had done the work we were interested in. I was suggesting products to them, and just got the standard...we can do whatever it is you want. I wanted someone to come to me with some great ideas and I didn't want to be the guinea pig, if they really had not worked with certain products. I started to give up on the project thinking maybe I had been watching too much HGTV and that what I wanted didn't really exist in Virginia Beach. FINALLY I was driving one day and I saw new construction where there were exposed 4x4 columns and they were being wrapped in column wraps. I asked one of the laborers for a phone number. I called immediately and this is where I was introduced to Stanley from Custom Contracting. He was so pleasant and well versed in everything I was talking about. As mentioned above, he was punctual, educated in his field and always got back to me with my questions. He gave me several homes to look at where his team had done the work. My husband and I were so excited that we finally had come across a vendor who understood what we wanted and seemed as though they could come through for us. Of course we were worried that the bid would be the downfall. To our surprise, his bid was much better than the ones we had already received and Custom Contracting was actually going to do a few more odds and end jobs that the others hadn't even bid out. Project started on time, finished on time and the laborers were very respectful of our property. I don't have one bad thing to say about them. Knowing what we know now, I honestly think I would have still selected Custom Contracting, even if their bid had been the highest. I had the best feeling about them even though they had no reviews on Angie's List. There were no surprises. They did everything we wanted with no hidden charges. We literally paid the contracted price. Our house looks amazing! All our neighbors keep telling us how great our house looks and are looking to use Custom Contracting as well in the future. My husband and I don't think we are high maintenance, but we've come to find that a lot of vendors we use disappoint us in some fashion...even the ones that come highly rated. I can honestly say, we were VERY pleased with the work quality, the employees and the price. Custom Contracting has recently just branched out into remodeling verses just doing new build, so I highly recommend you give these guys a call if you are in the market for siding and/or trim. "I will use Ferguson Home Improvement again, Mr. Ferguson and his staff was very easy to communicate with and very professional. They completed the job in a day they were in an out and the quality of work is also impressive. I will use Ferguson Home Improvement again when I need their professional assistance. "
"Cougar Development did an excellent job creating a living space out of an addition to a home built in 1918. The drywall work was excellent as was the placing of needed electrical outlets and ceiling fan/lighting. Closet space is extremely hard to come by in our neighborhood and Cougar was able to build a 30 sq ft closet that our growing family is able to take advantage of. This room was just a storage space and is now a usable living area after Cougar was done with it. The quality of work for the price I paid was amazing! I have already recommended Cougar to those in my neighborhood and will continue to do so!"
"It went very, very well. Mr. Wayland was polite, professional and very personable. He showed great knowledge in all areas regarding the different projects .He did an outstanding job with everything. He was very tidy and conscientious. Very reasonable in his prices. I am now going to contract him to stain and repair my deck and build wood siding around my chimney, I know it will look great !"
"Exceptional service! We originally called Steve to ask if he could tell us if a certain wall was load bearing, as we'd never had to make that determination before, and didn't want to risk making a mistake if we took on the project ourselves. He said he could, and we arranged a time for him to come to our house. He was prompt, friendly, and professional, and he took a look at the wall (plus another one that we were also considering removing), and let us know that one was safe to remove, while the other wasn't. We thanked him, and asked how much we owed him for his expert advice. He said that we didn't owe him anything. Since that was the only reason he'd come to our house, we were really amazed. Out of curiosity, we asked him how much he would charge to take down the wall and get it ready for paint. He said he'd put together a quote and let us know. We heard back from him the same day with a quote of $1200, and said it would probably take a couple of days to complete the project. We asked if he had a military discount, and he said he'd see what he could do. We heard back from him very quickly, and he said he could give us a military rate of $1100. We decided we were better off hiring him than doing the work ourselves, and made arrangements for him to come out in a week, when he had free space in his schedule. However, a couple of days later, he called and said that upcoming rain had delayed another project, and he asked if we'd like him to come out earlier. We said that would be great, and set up a time. He arrived promptly on time, did the work quickly, kept our home as clean as possible during the project, and cleaned up after himself when he left. He worked essentially 2 1/2 full days, then came back in the evening on a 3rd day to finish sanding after the mud on the drywall was dry. His work and professionalism were exceptional. We also asked him to take a look at an outdoor faucet, which he took apart and then explained which piece was broken and needed replaced. He was willing to do the work, but explained how we could do it ourselves. Because he didn't actually repair the faucet, he again refused to charge us for his advice. The same was true for a couple of other issues in the house--he evaluated them, and told us how to fix them, then refused payment for the advice. He was certainly willing to do the work; he just wasn't going to act like it was something that wasn't simple for us to do on our own. We would absolutely hire him again. He was prompt, honest, set a fair price, and did great work. He was also an absolute pleasure to do business with. "
"Not only did Jason make my day by letting me know that the cracks were a normal part of the house settling and no repairs were needed, he also took the time to show me a few other structural incidents around the house. He pointed out a few things that we could purchase on our own to keep moisture away from under the house and answered a few general questions I had about some other places in the house. When I asked the charge at the end, he said absolutely nothing. I was shocked and was incredibly impressed at the information he elected to give me about our home and that it was for no other reason than just to help me understand our house and potential things that could happen down the line. He was professional and courteous and I learned a ton (that I didn't expect to but was quite glad I did) in a matter of 15 minutes. I would highly recommend this company and if we do have any structural work done, I will definitely contact Jason and his company. "
"We hired Aaron to fixed a door that we had installed ourselves but did not properly hang so the door scraped the bottom and often had screws falling out of the hinges. Aaron was super professional and narrowed down the issue with our door's alignment immediately. He fixed the door and it works so much better now. We should have hired him sooner! Great work! We will be using him in the near future!"
"Walls Construction and Handyman Service gave me a fair estimate for the project. The crew showed up at the agreed time and started work promptly. The porch was completed on time and at the quoted price. The crew was very professional and cleaned up after the work was complete. I am very impressed with the craftsmanship and the professionalism of this company."
"Bryon was super helpful in giving me different stair layouts that might better fit our deck. My existing stair set was a poorly built by a different contractor who slapped it together and became a hazard with flimsy boards and weak structure. It’s refreshing to see a pair of brothers dedicated to their craft and I gotta say, the stairs are built more solid than the deck!!! Very responsive, professional, and timely!!! Would highly recommend to anyone and I already do to my friends and colleagues. You can’t go wrong with these guys!"
Concrete blocks are the cheapest way to base a shed. However, the space in between allows critters to go under, burrow, and even damage your shed’s frame. For a more pest-proof option, consider building a shed base with gravel or paver stones. Both options are fairly affordable and easy enough for a DIY project. For gravel, you can build a wooden frame to contain the loose material.
Yes, barndominiums can be two stories. Blueprints for barndominiums can safely support multiple stories or vaulted ceiling heights of 14 feet or more. Barndominiums are prized for their ability to be modified and customized to suit the builder’s preferences, and many barndominium construction companies offer a variety of different floor plans to choose from.
Barns and barndominiums are most commonly painted red, like barns depicted in movies and paintings. The practice of painting barns red dates back to America’s colonial days, when new farmers would borrow the European practice of mixing linseed oil with ferrous oxide to coat the barns in order to protect them from the elements, leaving the structures with a red color.
It is almost always more affordable to buy an existing home than to build a new one. Building a home involves numerous costs, including labor, permits, inspections, utility hookups, and brand-new materials, finishes, and appliances. Additionally, new construction loans can have higher interest rates than traditional mortgages, and property taxes on new homes are often higher, increasing long-term costs. An exception is a DIY house build, which can be cheaper than buying an existing home if you do the labor yourself. While building is generally more expensive, a new custom home offers complete control over the layout and design. Furthermore, new construction is typically worth more than a comparable pre-owned home and may provide a better return on investment if sold quickly.
You don’t typically need a permit to build a shed, but it’s best to check with your local city clerk to make sure before you start the project. Every town, city, and municipality can have different rules when it comes to any home improvement project. Homeowners associations sometimes have restrictions on the materials you can use on your property as well.
