"We have been customers of Manwill for over 10 years. The reasons why were highlighted yesterday when our water heater unexpectedly failed. I called their emergency number at about 9:30 AM and was quickly connected with Jeff. He helped me figure out how to protect my home, educated me about the implications of recent legislation regarding water heaters, and scheduled an appointment for replacement for late yesterday evening. A brief while later, one of his teams were redirected to our home because their assigned job went more quickly than expected. The men had a new, environmentally safer water heater installed before 4:00 PM and for less than I had expected to pay. It is nice to have a company filled with people who know what they're doing, and behave in a professional, responsible manner, on your side, especially in an urgent situation."

Customers say: True professional

"When our water heater began to leak, I had a couple of people come out to give me some general quotes. Most ranged from $2000 - $4000 to replace a 40 gallon heater. Then I put out the call on HomeAdvisor. Not two minutes after I submitted the request, I got a call from Page Plumbing (plus four other calls, too). They quoted $1400 for the heater, installation, and removal of the old unit. After I have the thumbs up, they arrived to our home within three hours, and 90 minutes later they were done. I will definitely call on then again for my future needs."

"Our fairly new water heater had begun leaking late last night. Valley Plumbing contacted me before 8 this morning to schedule an appointment. Justin and Mike were here, checked the problem, and had all the necessary parts to make the repairs. They were professional, clean, and thorough. I would recommend them again to anyone."

"The tech called to ask if it was ok to show up an hour early which was nice so we could get the repair out of the way. He was very professional and nice and explained to me clearly all of the things he found wrong with my furnace, some water related and some due to the age of my furnace. I got a cost quote for everything and only decided to pay what I could get the insurance to cover (circuit board replacement and a furnace tune up and cleaning) since the furnace is very old. The costs he provided me were on the high end, which can be expected if you call a contractor to your house, but the work was performed the same day and I'm happy with the end result. I plan to fix the rest of the issues my insurance will not pay for myself since paying them $205.00 to replace a $20.00 Igniter that is held on by one screw in a housing and connects with a snap together connection seemed a little ridiculous."

Water Heaters questions, answered by experts

A tankless water heater can last up to 20 years, which is nearly double the lifespan of a conventional tank heater. However, their longevity is highly dependent on several factors. With proper installation and regular maintenance, such as descaling to prevent mineral buildup from hard water, you can expect a lifespan of 15 to 20 years. Without proper care, a tankless unit may begin to fail in as little as 12 years. Other factors that affect its lifespan include household usage and the quality of the local water supply. While they have a higher upfront cost, their energy savings, smaller size, and longer life make them a worthwhile investment for many homeowners.

Yes, you can replace a current tank water heater with a tankless model or vice versa. If you’re maintaining the same fuel source—gas or electricity—the switchover should be smooth. A conventional tank requires open floor space, while a tankless model can be wall-mounted. If you’re switching to a tank water heater, you might need to clear space for it. Gas-powered tankless water heaters need a large volume of gas when they start running to heat the water instantly. You might need to increase the size of the gas line when going from a tank to a tankless model.

A tankless water heater with a flow rate of 10 GPM should replace a conventional 50-gallon water heater. To avoid a surprise cold shower or two and to keep your energy costs in check, it's important to replace a conventional tanked water heater with the equivalent tankless water heater. Your household size and the number of hot-water-using devices you use at once can help you determine the best-size tankless water heater.

Choosing between an electric water heater vs. a gas water heater comes down to personal preference. Overall, electric heaters are more energy efficient than their gas competitors. They’re also quieter to operate, take up less room, and don’t come with a risk of gas leaks.

The downside is that electric water heaters cost more to operate than gas. They might also struggle to heat water fast enough for households that use large amounts of hot water. Lastly, a power outage could cause your electric water heater to stop working, whereas gas water heaters may still function.

The time it takes to install or replace a water heater depends on the type of heater and the complexity of the job. A professional can typically replace a standard tank-style water heater in one to three hours. However, if the work area is tight, such as a small closet or crawl space, the job could take four to five hours. Replacing an existing tankless unit takes about two to three hours, while upgrading from a tank-style to a tankless water heater is more complex and can take four to six hours. The project will take longer if you are switching fuel sources, such as installing a gas heater which can add about an hour to the timeline, or if the unit needs to be relocated.
