Small jobs welcome

"Hedgehog Electric was priced very reasonable. The technician was able to arrive several days earlier before the scheduled time. In fact the service call fee came with a examination of the entire house. ( I didn’t use my house is new). I had a entry light switch replaced by a timer switch which the technician was able to install in 20 minutes. I highly recommend using this company."

"It is not often you will meet a subcontractor that is a go-to-guy for all things electrical. I would recommend this company to anyone that expects to get excellent, professional, timely and courteous service at a respectable price. Also, my wife loves that after every job this company prides themselves on leaving things clean and presentable. Over the years I have come to rely solely on this company for all my electrical needs."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Yes, it’s safe to strip a wire if you follow the proper safety precautions. First and foremost, you must always disconnect the power and never try stripping a live wire. Using wire strippers is another safety precaution, but don’t forget to keep your fingers away from the blade. It’s also critical you only remove the insulation and not accidentally cut into the conductor, which is unlikely as long as you’re using the right-sized wire stripper.

No, sconces don’t have to be hardwired, but they can be for a more permanent solution. Sconces come in various styles, sizes, and finishes as well as types of installation. Plug-in wall sconces can be plugged into a nearby outlet, and battery-powered sconces can be mounted to the wall.

You don’t need to be an electrician to change a light bulb. You also don’t have to be an electrician to replace a light fixture with another compatible one. But, if you are installing a light fixture for the first time, it’s worth hiring a licensed professional for the job.

While a handyperson may charge a bit less, a qualified professional can make sure everything is up to code and working exactly as it should be. This is especially true for more complicated lighting projects.

Poorly designed and incorrectly installed outlets can create an electrical fire hazard, as do some phone chargers and adapters that plug into these outlets. However, most outlets are perfectly safe as long as they remain in working condition. Keep an eye on what you are plugging into the outlet and stay alert for signs of outlet malfunction, like sparks, burning smell, or frequent circuit tripping.

Yes, professional installations typically include wiring, switches, and circuit adjustments for safe operation.
