"I called for an estimate, and Kristy came right out. She was friendly and sweet and I loved her sense of humor. An aspen tree on the property we recently purchased, was right in a mess of power lines, both to my structures, and to my neighbor’s. It was driving both my neighbor and me, bonkers. I received the estimate, and was shocked how reasonable it was to get our nemesis removed. Called to accept, fully expecting it would be 2-3 months until they would get to me, but there had been a cancellation, and they got me in within 3 days. 3 DAYS!!!!! The crew was friendly and professional, arriving right on time and taking every possible precaution to make sure it was done right. They did an absolutely wonderful, and complete job, of getting the tree taken out without so much as touching any of the multiple power lines, and they cleaned up nicely afterwards. 10/10. WILL ABSOLUTELY DO BUSINESS HERE AGAIN!"

Arborists questions, answered by experts

No. Most of the time, suckers are only a sign that the tree is experiencing stress. However, they can also be the canary in the coal mine, letting you know that something else is stressing your tree. If you have lots of suckers on your tree, calling in an arborist or a tree care expert is always a good call to determine the cause and develop a solution that de-stresses your tree.

There are a few things you should look for in a stump removal company to make sure you’ll be satisfied with the results:

  • Proper business licensing and insurance

  • History of positive reviews

  • Good rating with the Better Business Bureau

We also recommend asking any company you’re considering the following questions to help find the best value:

  • Will you remove the roots as well as the stump?

  • Will you haul away wood chips or large portions of the stump?

  • What method will you use to remove the stump?

You can use a chainsaw, but it won’t remove the entire stump or root ball and is not a recommended method. It takes quite a bit of physical work to achieve and will likely dull or ruin your chainsaw. Instead, consider using salt, herbicide, light deprivation, boiling water, stump grinding, or burning to kill a tree stump. These methods allow you to kill a stump using minimal machinery and physical exertion.

For small trees, tree removal should take just a couple of hours to complete. Assume that a mid-sized tree will take between four and eight hours, depending on the extent of the equipment required and the health of the tree. Remember to add up to two hours for stump removal. Larger trees could take as long as one or two working days, about eight hours each.

If you’re wondering why tree trunks are painted white in your area, it’s usually to prevent sunscald, a condition where extreme shifts in temperature can cause tree bark to split. Fruit trees are especially vulnerable to sunscald, so this treatment is worth considering if it’s something that affects your trees.
