"I hired Pippen Brick and Tile to repair my earthquake damaged fireplace chimney. They came over the same day and removed dangerous loose bricks until the weather allowed them to repair it. The repairs were completed in one day and Iâ m very happy with the results."

"Loyals did a wonderful job on a tile remodel for my shower. They leveled the shower pan and built me in a custom shower shelf. The work was high quality and they communicated very well."

"This company must have made some changes since those reviews. These guys have redone 2/3 of our house now. We had them do our upstairs first a month ago because it was scary to do anything in our kitchen. They did a fantastic job. So we redid the ENTIRE main floor. Kitchen, baths, living, all of it. Tear out took longer than planned, but they finished the floor on schedule despite the delay in tear out. You coordinate with a team: Sales Person (we had Paul and he is awesome from beginning to end) Project coordinator who is emailing updates and plans. Our was Tara and she has been great to call and coordinate when schedules are being figured out. Tear Out Team: I guess only if you hire them for this. We did. It was pretty good, not great. Like I said, slow, but didn't impact final job timing. Install Team: Our was Steven and Skyler and they are the best installers I've seen. So fast, so precise. Eliminated and need for quarter round trim because of how perfect they cut the edges around our stairs. This is the most important team of the group and these two are rockstars."

"They were very easy to work with. The master bath remodel was quick and they were respectful of going through our house. The demolition work was done quickly. The tile work looks nice. They had all the connections for the plumber and the electrician."

"I went into the showroom many times and got a lot of help from the designers there. They really took a lot of time with me looking at options and giving advice. They also seem to have adequate staff, and the store is busy, so it's nice to be able to get help. We ordered an expensive tile and when we got it laid out realized some of the order would not work in the pattern we had hoped. The manager helped us find a solution and was really great to work with. Plus their tile is gorgeous! I love walking through the showroom. I would definitely go there again next time we do a project."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can tile over existing shower tiles, but it's better to remove the old tiles first for the best results. Tiling over existing tiles requires a clean, level surface and proper adhesion. If the old tiles are in good condition, you can roughen the surface to improve adhesion. However, removing the old tiles ensures a smoother, longer-lasting finish and prevents potential issues down the line.

If you hire a professional to lay tile, you can expect to pay $3 to $15 per square foot for labor. For a 100-square-foot tiling project, that would equal $30 to $150 in labor. These costs may increase if you need extra services (such as tile removal, wall repair, or waterproofing). For example, tile removal costs an additional $2 to $7 per square foot.

Costs range from $5 to $15 per square foot for installation and $150 to $600 for repairs, depending on the material and complexity.

Thinset mortar is the best adhesive for ceramic tiles on concrete. It is easy to work with and has a slower dry time than mastic or epoxy mortars. This longer dry time gives the installer more time to adjust tiles, which is especially useful for DIYers who may not have tile installation experience. It can also be built up to help level any depressions or gaps in the concrete subfloor.

The average cost for tile installation is about $2,000, with a typical price range between $500 and $6,500. On a per-square-foot basis, you can expect to pay between $5 and $45 for installation.

Several factors influence the total cost, including:

  • Installation Site: Costs vary for different areas. Common project costs are: kitchen floor ($870–$6,100), countertop or backsplash ($500–$3,000), bathroom floor ($300–$2,400), or shower wall ($225–$2,000).

  • Tile Type and Quality: The material significantly impacts price. For example, standard ceramic or travertine tile can cost about $1 per square foot, while luxury options like marble can be as much as $350 per square foot for the material alone.

  • Project Size and Complexity: The total square footage, the complexity of the pattern, and the shape of the tile (e.g., square, rectangle, hexagon, mosaic) will affect labor and material costs.

  • Site Preparation: The amount of prep work needed, such as removing old tile or installing a new subfloor or backer board, can add to the final price.

  • Tile Characteristics: The tile's durability rating and porosity can also influence the price.

  • Location: Labor rates vary by geographic location.
