"I would recommend Great Built to anyone and would definitely hire them again. I couldn't ask for better customer service. Neely and Gary were very responsive from the beginning and provided great information. They were able to get the work done right away and kept me informed every step of the way. They did a great job with the roof and cleaned everything up perfectly. Gary came back after it was completed to inspect and make sure there were no nails left behind. Everything went so smoothly!"

"We had two skylights replaced by Sola-Lite after hail damage to our older skylights. The process of having the company measure, help us decide which skylight to purchase, order, and install was quite easy and smooth. We are very pleased with the skylights and would definitely use Sola-Lite again in the future."

"The technician that was assigned to evaluate my roof gave me a call prior to heading out and ask what incentive did my insurance company had to offering for the discount. I was completely honest and told him that if my roof is rated for class 4 that the insurance company will give me $250 annual discount. He also ask what kind of roof did I have installed to which I replied standing seam metal roof. The technician was honest and gave me a run down of wether the discount was in best case scenario. In the long run. And I must say it’s refreshing to hear honest positive opinion from a company that didn’t have to give me all the info and run down. They could have just a charge me the fee to certify my roof but they wanted to make sure that I was getting the best case scenario for my situation. Thank you again for the honesty. I recommend this company they are honest and will not try to sell you anything that you honestly don’t need."

Skylights questions, answered by experts

While it is possible to install a skylight as a DIY project, it is not recommended. Skylights are the most likely type of window to leak due to their position on the roof. Even minor mistakes during installation can lead to significant water damage and high repair costs. Additionally, working on a roof is dangerous, especially when maneuvering heavy, bulky windows. Due to the required roof modifications and the need for proper sealing and structural safety, hiring a professional skylight installer is strongly advised to avoid costly long-term issues.

Yes, you can cover up a skylight if you no longer wish to have it in your space. There are a few options for covering up a skylight. One option is to install a skylight cover or shade that can be easily opened or closed as needed, allowing you to control the amount of light entering the room. Another option is to cover the skylight with a solid material, such as plywood or drywall, effectively sealing it off. However, when covering a skylight, it's essential to ensure proper insulation and waterproofing to prevent any issues in the future.

Professionals repair or seal a skylight by inspecting for damages, resealing any gaps with appropriate weatherproofing materials, replacing cracked glass or seals, and ensuring the frame is tightly fitted to prevent future leaks and ensure proper drainage.

This is based on personal preference, budget, and the vibe you are going for with your holiday lighting. If you are looking for the cheapest option, incandescent lights are a budget-friendly choice. You can also opt for sheets of lights that cover areas such as trees and bushes for easier installation.

Yes, you can add blinds or shades to both roof windows and skylights, but roof windows tend to have more options available. Retractable skylight shades are popular on both options for added privacy, light control, and heat reduction, although they’re more expensive than manually-operated blinds or shades. If you have a roof window or skylight set in a high ceiling, a motorized or solar-powered skylight window covering is probably your best bet.
