"Norris Pools has been maintaining our pool for approximately six months now and we couldn't be happier. Bryan is always on time and very knowledgeable about the chemistry and mechanics of pools and spas. I wanted a company that would look after my pool the way they would there own and I found that with Norris Pools. I have and will continue to recommend them to anyone.

"US Pool provided a pool design based on our budget. The quote included several options. Their quote included superior products, design, and warranty. They walked us thru the process and explained the various stages of construction and what to expect (no surprises). They obtained the appropriate approvals, and began work on time. They maintained quality control thru all phases of construction and kept us informed on what to expect. It took only 30 days from the time excavation began until the pool was being filled; so they were very efficient. US Pool insured that the stress and anxiety of a construction project was kept to the minimum. We would strongly recommend them to anyone considering installation of a pool."

"his crew showed up on time, did a fantastic job. his quote beat all the competitor pool companies by $1,000.00 or more. my pool looks like it's brand new. I even looked in the catalog and picked out Caribbean blue plaster. I highly endorse third coast, call me if you have any questions 832-504-1211, I have no connection with this company, just very impressed, the owner is man of his word. lloyd"

Install Above Ground Pools questions, answered by experts

An in-ground concrete pool will carry the highest price tag of all available types of pools, with architectural or freeform concrete pools found at the top end of the price range. Although the upfront costs for a concrete pool are high, these pools tend to be more durable than pools made from other materials and will last the longest.

Pool light replacements are often more expensive compared to other pool parts, like pump motors, or standard light bulbs for indoor use. The reason for the higher cost is that pool lights are specially designed and made with parts meant to keep swimmers safe. The light fixture and surrounding parts protecting the bulb must be waterproof, tightly sealed, and resistant to extreme temperatures.

No, shock and chlorine are not the same thing, though they are related and both are used for pool maintenance. Regular chlorine, often in the form of tablets, is a sanitizer used for routine, day-to-day maintenance to keep a steady chlorine level. Pool shock, however, is a highly concentrated dose of chlorine used periodically for a more intense cleaning. It rapidly raises chlorine levels to fix issues like cloudy water or algae growth and also eliminates chloramines, which are byproducts of regular chlorination. Because their purposes and concentrations differ, they are not interchangeable, and proper pool care typically requires using both.

Before deciding to install a swimming pool in your yard, there are many factors to consider. Even if you still need to figure out the specifics with your pool installer, having an idea of what you'd like will help the initial consultation. Some topics to consider include:

  • Will you use salt water for your pool or traditional hose water?

  • How big of a pool do you want to install? How deep?

  • What special zoning laws do you need to follow for your area?

  • Do you want to keep it simple or add special features like underwater lighting and waterfalls?

Pool chemical levels should include a pH between 7.4 and 7.6, alkalinity between 80 to 120 ppm, and chlorine from 1 to 3 ppm. The size and type of your pool determine additional chemical levels, such as stabilizers and pool shock, but you can get to know these numbers using our pool maintenance 101 guide.
