"Using Aaron’s was a great experience. Within ten minutes of being on our roof he knew exactly how to fix our problem. Two days later he had our parts and fixed our cooler! The air conditioner has never worked this well. Thanks so much Aaron’s. Highly recommend."

"Great! When our AC suddenly stopped working on one 95 degree day, I contacted Val at Western Electric and a tech arrived that same day. David came and replaced a faulty component, and the house cooled off again to our great relief. But a couple of days later, on a Sunday, system stopped working again. Sent Val a message, and David was back, on a SUNDAY, to check it out. He found some faulty wires leading the the unit and fixed them. NO CHARGE for coming back on a Sunday. Very nice folks and super responsive. Highly recommended!"

"Six months ago, I would have given StarTech 5 stars for everything, and I am happy to be able to reinstate that rating. There was a problem with the connection on the water heater that ended up ruining it. Yes, it took some calls, but Luis finally replaced the water heater, for free. He is an honorable contractor."

"Absolutely awesome! Repair service offered to arrive within one hour, I was unable to make that because I did not expect such quick service. AC back on same day with a temporary thermostat, full replacement with new thermostat, project completed the very next day. I am very pleased and impressed that things were taken care so quickly and professionally."

"The team at insulation works did an excellent job of adding insulation to my attic and weatherizing my doors. The house was noticeably cooler immediately after they had finished. Their ability to explain the process, communicate any concerns, and answer all of my questions made them an exceptional experience."

Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

The best time of year to purchase or replace an HVAC system, including components like an air conditioner or furnace, is during the off-season—spring and fall. During these periods, HVAC professionals are less busy than in summer and winter, when extreme temperatures create urgent demand. Shopping during the off-season can lead to savings of 10% to 15% on an AC unit and allows you more time to find the best deal and other cost-saving incentives. Typically, air conditioning units go on sale in the fall after demand drops, while furnace prices tend to decrease in the spring.

There are a few ways to reduce your electricity bills if you use window AC units to keep cool. Set the unit temperature at least 1 degree higher than it is currently to reduce costs. Keep the unit clean for it to run efficiently. You may want to hire a window AC specialist near you to inspect the unit once a year and keep it in tip-top shape.

No, it isn’t necessarily bad to turn your AC on and off frequently—contrary to popular belief. Even if you stop and start your AC throughout the day, it won’t use as much energy as it would if you ran it nonstop.

If you’re concerned about your power consumption and energy costs, there are a few simple ways to use your AC more efficiently. Regularly cleaning the filters, scheduling routine maintenance, and using a programmable thermostat are all great choices.

Set your house temperature between 55 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit while on vacation, depending on the season. If it’s winter, don’t go below 55 degrees. In the summer, the best AC temperature for energy savings is no higher than 85 degrees. You can save anywhere from 10% to 15% on your energy costs by adjusting the temperature while you’re away. If you have a smart thermostat, set up vacation modes for each season. On your way home, turn off vacation mode to allow the home to warm up or cool down before you arrive.

AC drip pans last five to 20 years, depending on the material. Plastic AC drip pans last five to 10 years, while metal pans can last over 10 years. Plastic AC drip pans are vulnerable to cracking in response to temperature changes. Metal drip pans are prone to rusting over time, which can also lead to leaks.
