"The owner showed up fast and professional. He completed the job in a timely manner and explained everything that he was checking and or fixed. His quote beat the competition which is always good but for this case we are just happy that he took such good care of us as customers. Don’t hesitate to reach out to Mr. Heating & Cooling. Thanks again for showing up fast and helping my grandmother. You will be our goto for as long as you are in business."

"David did an amazing job in troubleshooting and correcting the issue with my air-conditioning unit. He was very thorough and took the time to explain what was wrong. He also explained how to maintain our unit and keep it running efficiently. Great job, David! We will definitely be calling for regular maintenance and will be recommending Startech to all of our family and friends. Thank you!"

"Rating for everything is 5 stars, although customer service was above and beyond five stars-deserver 100!). Brandon took time out to explain and advise us regarding bad experience we had with a different AC contractor (YEARS after we hired Total Air for other installations), the new AC guy was hired for us through the general contractor doing work for our home. Lesson learned: hire your own contractors, don't go with who a general contractor uses. That has been a nightmare for us, hopefully over soon."

Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Yes, it’s important to turn off your AC sometimes to give it a break and prevent it from freezing up. If your AC runs all the time, your system’s parts will wear down quicker, which may mean that you need to replace it sooner. Plus, using your AC constantly uses more electricity and leads to higher energy bills.

To reset your air conditioner, start by turning it off at the thermostat. Then, shut off power to the AC system at the circuit breaker. Some units have a dedicated "reset" button; if yours does, press and hold it for three to five seconds. If your air conditioner doesn't have a reset button, or if you are resetting it after a power outage, leave the circuit breaker off for at least 30 minutes to allow the system to reset itself. Afterward, turn the power back on at the breaker, turn on the AC from the thermostat, and set it to "cool" to test the system.

Yes, you can clean AC coils yourself. Just make sure that the power to your AC system is off before you begin. You’ll need some basic tools and supplies, including a soft brush, cloth, screwdriver, and a commercial or homemade cleaning solution. Cleaning your coils will only cost about $10.

While it is possible to add Freon to your AC unit yourself, it is not recommended. In fact, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) prohibits the handling of Freon without a license. Freon is a dangerous gas that can cause irreversible damage to your AC or yourself if not installed correctly. It is worthwhile to hire a professional to add Freon to your AC.

Air filters with a high MERV rating, 11 or above, shouldn't cause airflow problems in most residential systems. However, the airflow can be restricted in some HVAC systems if they aren't designed for high MERV ratings. If in doubt, a local duct installer should inspect your ductwork so that you know what your system can handle.
