"Purchased two hour Handyman coupon for $149.00. Mike Bible came on time and ready to work. Took about 20 minutes to install the ceiling fan. We put on the blades and light and saved Mike a little time. Mike was very meticulous in his measurements on the Doggie door. He had it all together in 40 minutes. Very well done. Pleasant, professional and competent service. That is what I received from TD Services. Use them again? Absolutely!"

"The installation went well. Justin from sales is awesome and took all the inputs and scheduled the installation appropriately. The installation team Doug and JD are excellent. They worked very hard in the hot sun and installed very patiently. Very cooperative, cleared all the questions we have. We had an issue with the drainage of the purifier as it occupied our washer and dryer which prevented our washing machine installation and Costco denied the installation. But upon contacting prostar Doug or JD came and resolved the issue in no time. He installed the washer and dryer as well. Really appreciate the team and their services.."

"Excellent! Doorbell worked like a charm and looked good too. And when he was done with the masonry work, I couldn't even tell where it had been done. He was right on time. We will probably contact him again to install a new front door."

"Contacted after foundation repair. Inspection found sewer line break under slab, tested and quoted price. Work began following week and continued through the following week due to weather (rain). Project completed, though I'm still awaiting final receipt still after work completion I have their initial receipt and work was done to satisfaction. Seem like good company just a bit slow on receipts. Other than that I'd recommend and would use again."

"3 Plumbers & Dad LLC were excellent to work with. I needed to get a Pressure Reducing Valve installed because the PSI on the water pressure from the main line to the house was too high. I found them through Angie's list, and called to set up an appointment for the quote. They have a really user friendly reminder system so after calling I got an automated email with the date/time and they arrived on time for the appointment. After that initial visit Teresa sent me 4 quotes! The first had just the work I initially called about, installing the PRV. The other 3 had additional options based on their best practice recommendations - such as installing a Thermal Expansion Tank to prevent PRV discharge and replacing the flexible piping on my water heater with solder weld copper. Each quote had a different price point and thorough explanation of each component so I could make a well informed decision and pick the option that best suited my needs and budget. I chose to upgrade the project from just the PRV to the PRV along with the Thermal Expansion Tank and Copper piping. The install went very well, again sent me an appointment reminder and were on time for the install appointment. They were very professional and showed me the work and the new location for shutting off the main line in the event of an emergency after the PRV install. I highly recommend working with them, I will absolutely use them again for any future plumbing needs!"

"We selected Blue Diamond Remodeling (BDR) from three competitive bids. BDR were excellent at doing the scope of work that we needed done. We had prepared a 13 page detailed scope of work document that listed everything that we wanted done as part of the Bid Package. BDR were responsible for demolition of the existing kitchen, internal walls, old electrical and old plumbing. They installed 4 new beams where we opened up wall to make a more modern open architecture house inside. Their Structural/framing subcontractor was exceedingly great and experienced. Once the walls were opened up BDR installed a new sub-electrical power panel to power all of the appliances per City of Austin Codes. We moved the location of the sink some 10 feet so BDR's plumbing sub had to open up the slab and route the hot & cold water and drain lines under the slab to the new location. Their electrician also installed new LED ceiling lights in the expanded kitchen. BDR supplied and installed all new floor tiles, backsplash and also refinished our existing hardwood flooring. They also insulated the open exterior walls and blew in new attic insulation ( this 1965 house barely had any). Overall, BDR gave us an excellent project manager who was here on site nearly every day. I strongly and whole-heartedly recommend BDR, we had an excellent experience. We got our own cabinets and countertops ourselves, and our supplier caused multiple delays, not in BDR's scope of responsibility, but BDR still got their scope done regardless of my scope."

Install Garbage Disposal questions, answered by experts

Garbage disposals are durable appliances that usually last at least eight years as long as you clean and maintain them. It’s relatively rare for a garbage disposal to break on its own, as most malfunctions happen due to user errors, like overstuffing the grinding compartment or damaging the blades by trying to dispose of metal or bone. Eventually, cracks or leaks could develop in the unit, which requires a full replacement.

You may be able to install a garbage disposal on your own, especially if you're handy or have some experience with plumbing. However, if you have any concerns or want to make absolutely sure that the connections are installed correctly, you may be better off hiring a local garbage disposal installer to do the job.

Whether it's worth repairing your garbage disposal depends on its age and the specific problem. Generally, if the unit is eight years old or younger, repair is a good option. For minor issues like a bad seal or a simple jam, a repair can be inexpensive, sometimes under $10. However, if the motor is broken (a repair that can cost $150 or more) or the unit is getting old, it's often more cost-effective to replace the entire disposal.

Soil is just one of the items you shouldn't put down a garbage disposal. Garbage disposals are only meant for soft, non-fibrous foods. Large amounts of topsoil, dirt, or rocks will damage the blades of your garbage disposal or clog the pipes. If a small amount of dirt goes down the drain as you repot a plant, you shouldn't have to worry, but never dump a whole pot of soil in the sink for fast disposal.

While the drain connection for a garbage disposal is nearly universal and fits standard sink drain holes of 3 1/2 to 4 inches, the size of the disposal unit itself is not. You must have enough space in the cabinet underneath your sink to accommodate the disposal's housing. A larger model may not fit in a compact cabinet or if the existing plumbing is arranged in an unusual way. Before buying a new garbage disposal, measure the available space under your sink. If you are replacing an old unit, it's often easiest to choose a new model of a similar size.
