"I was called right away after my reqfor service. Fast service, great technician. They really helped me out in a pinch when our Airbnb guests flushed wipes down the toilet and clogged the sewer. We will definitely call them in the future!"

"Bay Coast Plumbing did a thorough job. They arrived on time. They fixed the problem with the toilet, resealed it, then gave tips and advice for improving the plumbing throughout the kid's bathroom. They showed us how to save money, not spend it. I'd hire them again."

"Edward and Phillip arrived on time and went right to work. They had to cut some tile in order to make the toilet fit and did a very professional job. They explained what work was being completed as they went along and cleaned up after themselves as they went along. A very pleasant experience from start to finish. On top of this they were the lowest quote for the work. I would definitely use The Plumber out of Santa Fe Texas again."

"Micah and his crew did an amazing job on our bathroom remodel.  We had them remove a standing shower stall and a garden tub transforming the space into a big walk-in shower. It took approximately 2 weeks to complete the project. However either Micah or one of his crew were in contact with us everyday no matter if an issue that needed to be addressed or just a simple update. They were respectful of our property, our time and even our curious pitbull that wanted to know what they were doing.  We are completely satisfied with the work they did. "

"This past weekend, my third floor toilet/sinks were backing up due to a lost plumbing snake. I called SmartChoice and spoke with Carlos this past Sunday. He came out Sunday night and looked at the situation. He returned Monday with Travis and tried to get the snake out but couldn't (He removed the toiled, put in a camera and tried taking it out that way). He finally returned this morning (with Travis) and finished the job. He cut into the wall into our garage and pulled it out. I really appreciated the fact that Carlos tried multiple ways to get the snake out before cutting into the wall. He did not immediately pick the most expensive option.
During all 3 visits, Carlos (and Travis) were very professional. They were on time, very detailed with their explanation on what needed to be come. I called multiple plumbers last Sunday before choosing SmartChoice. They had the best price. I HIGHLY recommend this company. I will definitely call them in the future if I have more plumbing issues.

Toilets questions, answered by experts

The order of your bathroom renovation should prevent damage to the completed work. Start with demolition and removing the old fixtures. Then, address structural repairs or water damage, if needed. Next, tackle the rough-in phase for plumbing and electrical work, install waterproofing, and work on wall treatments like tile or paint. Install your shower or bathtub, toilet, vanity, and sink. Flooring goes in after major fixtures but before the toilet. Lastly, install new lighting fixtures, mirrors, and other finishing touches as desired.

If you experience the telltale sign of wax ring failure, which is leaking water, replacing the faulty ring takes one to three hours, depending on accessibility. This is an exacting and time-consuming job, as several components must be removed for the plumber to access the ring. Once replaced, however, wax rings require little to no maintenance and last 30 years or longer.

The toilet should rest 10, 12, or 14 inches from the back wall. As for other clearances, 15 inches is the minimum distance from the flange to any side wall or nearby fixture, including the shower, tub, and sink. Modern codes also require at least 24 inches of clear space in front of the toilet.

You can DIY your toilet flapper replacement if you’re up for a small plumbing project. Turn off the water to the toilet, open the tank lid, remove the chain from the lever, and unhook the flapper. For a new, adjustable flapper, adjust it to the right setting according to your toilet's gallons per flush rating. Hook the flapper in place and install the chain with 1/2 inch of slack.

Adding another bathroom isn’t the most complicated project you can undertake, but it’s in the top 5%. Anything involving plumbing and electrical work should be handed off to a pro, and adding a half bath involves both. A contractor may charge $70 to $120 an hour for labor, but chances are they can work much faster and more accurately than a DIYer.
