"My foundation work involved both outside and inside piers. Inside there were jackhammers, lifting with bottle jacks, welding, and concrete work. The mess was kept to a minimum. Accurate used steel piers to reach bedrock. Concrete piers would not, a real selling feature. Just finished a few days ago, but overall the house is much better."

"Barboza Plastering went above and beyond to address my stucco issue. I needed several spots fix due to my negligence. Barboza went to go get the matching paint and then refinished the stucco's fine finish so that everything blended in. I couldn't be more happier with the result."

"I had an excellent experience with Concrete Slab Foundation Repair! Dawn Castillo, the owner, was incredibly professional and personable. She took the time to assess the issue thoroughly and explained everything clearly, so I knew exactly what to expect. The repair was done quickly and efficiently, and for just $140, it was a great value! My foundation issues were resolved with no hassle, and Dawn's attention to detail and customer service truly stood out. "Mike L, David L, and Elias V from the San Antonio area came down and did my foundation repair. They were very good at what they do and very professional. I would highly recommend them! Thanks again guys for all your hard work! They had to install 17 piers and made it look easy. Cleaned up and can barely tell they were here. Thanks, Steve"

"The end result is very good, however, there were some challenges along the way, which at the time were annoying, but were really just part of any construction / repair project. The crew arrived on time to begin the process of hand digging and using an auger to drill the piers to a depth of 10-12 ft. The first challenge occurred when the auger broke our water supply line to the house and filled it up with water. Brown immediately called their plumbing company for repair, but the pouring of the piers was delayed. At he same time, the auger machine damaged our porch column and gutter downspout. The machine also damaged the siding corner at our sun room at the rear of the house. During the process of digging / drilling the piers our sprinkler system piping and control wiring was disturbed and / or damaged as well. The piers were successfully poured, and after curing, the foundation was successfully raised. Because we had a sewer leak to repair at the same time, we raised the foundation, had the leak repaired, and then Brown returned to perform the mudjacking. Here is where the ball was dropped a bit. During this process, there was an enormous amount of dirt / debris generated. This dirt was piled, on plastic on our front lawn and other places. We knew this going in. However, after the piers were drilled and poured, the mudjacking performed, there was a 2 week period in which there was absolutely nothing done to "finish" the job by filling holes, replacing landscaping, and grading the dirt around the house. Finally, they had a crew available to return, but by this time, in the June-July, with no sprinkler system, and huge pile of dirt on the lawn, well, it was a disaster.
To their credit, through all of these challenges, in the end they stepped up and made it right. They replaced the st Augustine in the front, their plumbers repaired the damaged lines, the price was adjusted to reflect the repairs to the downspout and siding, and they sent their sprinkler people out twice to repair / replace components damaged during the process.
During the whole process, everyone was responsive, kind, and professional.
All of our doors open and close now and we will have cosmetic repairs done in approximately 6 mos. after everything has settled.
Bottom line, we would recommend Brown Foundation Repair.

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Mortar and thinset both serve the same purpose—tile adhesion—but have different compositions and use-cases. Thinset is heatproof and presents a wide range of possibilities due to the added polymers. Mortar is typically used for bonding stones and brick. Thinset is rarely used outside, while mortar is rarely used inside.

According to the Earthquake Country Alliance—a public and private alliance in California that works to improve earthquake and tsunami readiness—reports that unreinforced masonry, such as stone, bricks, and hollow clay tiles, is more susceptible to earthquake damage. The mortar between bricks isn’t as stable as other building materials and methods.

Yes, you can use a mixture of 1 tablespoon of bleach and a gallon of warm water to clean stubborn stains from brick. Do not use bleach without diluting it in water. Undiluted bleach may cause discoloration. You can use either Oxygen bleach such as OxiClean or chlorine bleach. Always wear protective gloves and eye protection when handling bleach.

Some older brick material is extremely hard, making it tough to create a hole. Rather than using a typical wood drill bit, always use a masonry drill bit when drilling into brick. For extremely hard brick, using a power drill with a hammer function may give you better results. The drill bit will heat up as it goes into the extremely hard brick, so you may need to stop after a few minutes and allow the bit to cool before starting to drill again.

Brick can increase the value of your home depending on the type of masonry materials used. Homes generally have a higher resale value when they have brick siding, and brick is also easier to maintain (and lasts longer) than other types of siding, which can motivate buyers to make an offer.

Just keep in mind, however, that although brick can up the asking price when you sell your house, the cost to brick a house is also more expensive than other typical siding costs—so you’ll invest more in the project.
