"After talking to six other companies, I decided to give Elite Arborist a try. Carlos came out to give an estimate on laying new sod and redoing the stonework around a tree in my front yard. He was punctual and listened carefully to what I wanted. He told me all the things his company does and how they could make my vision a reality. We ended up agreeing to the work as well as pruning the large oak tree we have. On the day of the project, the sod was delivered 6:30 a.m. and the crew arrived an hour later. I was impressed how they put out orange cones around the area for neighbors’ visual safety. Carlos introduced me to the crew supervisor, Rocky. Throughout the day, Rocky kept me informed about what they were doing and progress. He patiently answered all my questions and reassured me that I would be pleased with the results. I was very impressed with the attention to detail to the stonework around the tree, the meticulous way they prepped to lay the sod and the expertise of tree pruning. They took great care in making sure they left may yard and surrounding areas, i.e., street very clean. By the end of the day, my front yard was transformed and had great curb appeal. Plus, the Oak tree really stands out. Carlos also sent me information on after care and fertilization of the sod. I’m very happy with the results. I paid a little more than I expected but it was well worth it. When it comes to landscaping professionals, Elite Arborist is the company you need. These guys are fantastic. They have a true passion for what they do and are very professional. I highly recommend this company. Their work is top notch."

"Chuck and Avery were both outstanding to work with. We currently moved from Des Moines, IA and the place we rented is in Oak Point, TX, needless to say it was not move in ready. It looked as if the leaves had not been touched all year. Contacted Noble Oaks on Angie’s List and they came out and gave the estimate and did the work in all less than three hours. I will definitely be using them for all of my landscaping needs, because they are hands down the best landscapers that I have every done business with"

Trees are what keep us living, so taking care of them is important. As a certified arborist I endeavor to provide tree care practice according to ANSI standards. Apart from general tree care, I also grind stumps that not only can be an eyesore, but also a tripping hazard. I am insured and have 10 years of experience.

"DR Bob treated my tree for Dutch elm disease, as well as my shrubs for spider mites, and black spot. Definitely cheaper than replacing all my shrubs, which I was preparing to do. Prompt and professional. Fingers crossed, this works!"

"We had just gone through 8 weeks of major frustration with our previous landscaper on what was supposed to be a 2-3 week project.  Items were left unfinished, plants were dying, wrong plants were installed, and very little variety in plants had all of our landscaping looking the same.  Mike Rohe came in and gave us a plan that allowed us to re-use all of our existing plants while adding new plants and trees with different textures, heights, and varieties that turned our landscape into a beautiful solution.  They had to move and re-plant every single tree previously installed in order to save them as they were all dying due to their improper planting depths (all our trees were planted too deep and were suffering from "wet feet").  The bamboo was planted too shallow and too close to our fence with horrible spacing and had to be moved out from the fence and planted deeper to save what we could (we lost 4 bamboo plants due to exposed rootballs).  The 300 plus liriope plants were all moved to border our beds rather than being the central focus of the beds.  The knockout roses were moved back away from the pool edge to the fenceline so there would be no scraped bathers from the thorns.  Other plants (Iris, gardenias, etc.) were moved to better locations giving us differing heights and textures where needed.Mike asked us to trust him, and he would make everything right.  Well, he did just that, and much more!  He showed up at least 2 times every day during the process and personally made sure things were going the right way.  He introduced new trees and plants where it was appropriate and the difference of the before and after was like night and day.  The crew was very professional, prompt, and cleaned up so well you could not tell they were even there when they left for the day.We would highly recommend using Landscape Innovations as it was so refreshing to deal with professionals that have an eye for design, and hold customer service in such high regard."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

There are a few instances in which removing a tree is the best option. You might do this if the tree looks to be a major danger—potentially falling onto your home, your car, or other parts of your property—or it’s diseased beyond repair. A tree that is growing too close to your house might need to be removed to prevent mold growth.

It can be bad to leave a dead stump in the ground. A stump becomes a hefty piece of dead wood in time and eventually (especially with the help of rain) starts to rot. That makes it a locus point for diseases and pesky insects, as well as a bit of an eyesore. It’s best to remove a tree stump completely before it starts to decay, especially before it starts to fall apart. If the tree was removed because of disease, it’s even more important to fully remove the stump if possible.

Removing tree stumps is a dangerous and complex job that requires a high level of expertise. Many landscapers specialize in general lawn care and maintenance. But, some may have the proper licensing and qualifications needed to safely remove tree stumps. In most cases, though, landscapers will refer you to a local tree removal or stump grinding company.

The fastest ways to remove a tree stump are by grinding it or burning it.

Stump grinding is often the quickest method, with professionals able to chip away a stump and its roots within a single session. You have the option to hire a professional stump removal service or rent a stump grinder to do it yourself. However, it's important to note that these machines can be large, difficult to transport, and dangerous to operate without prior experience. For safety reasons, hiring a local arborist or landscape specialist is often recommended.

Burning is another fast option. Before you begin, check your local burn laws. The process involves drilling holes into the stump, filling them with vegetable oil, and waiting 24 to 48 hours. Afterward, you can add charcoal bricks to the surface and light the fire, which must be attended at all times.

For a more affordable but much slower alternative, you can use potassium nitrate pellets to accelerate the natural decomposition process. This method typically takes four to six months.

Getting a tree pro with the right experience can be the difference between your transplanted tree surviving or not. When hiring a local tree transplanting and removal service, follow up on references, check their portfolio, ask for a breakdown of the costs, and get proof of liability and workers’ compensation insurance.

Also, look for companies certified by the International Society of Arboriculture or registered with the Tree Care Industry Association and make sure they have an appropriate state or city license.
