"Theo was very timely in his response to my request for professional assistance. I noticed my heating wasn’t working around 7pm on the eve of New Year’s eve (Dec 30th). It was at 10pm when I realized I needed professional assistance (my limited attempts at troubleshooting was ineffective). I reached out to Home Advisor for quotes. I contacted 3 Home Advisor and 1 non-Home Advisor associated companies for assistance. Before I finished my early morning workout at the athletic club the following morning (less than 12 hours since my initial job request), Theo had already contacted me offering to come out and assess the problem. He came out on a very cold and rainy New Year’s eve morning. Based on my description of the problem I was having, Theo anticipated what would be needed for the repair and he stopped by the HVAC store and picked up the possible needed part and a replacement thermostat (although I had only asked him to come out to provide an estimate). He was being proactive because he knew the HVAC store closed early (at 1pm) in preparation for the holiday. He fixed the problem and provided very thorough and informative explanations of what he was doing and what was the cause of the problem. He also had to improvise to overcome an unexpected snafu. Without his expertise and wherewithal to devise an alternative method for completing the installation of my new Nest thermostat, I would have had to contact the company (Nest) for an alternative thermostat with a battery or a different sum of connection wires than the one I had on hand. It was one of the coldest days of the year and I would have been without heating for several days waiting for the stores to open on Monday (after the holiday). Theo’s pre-planning for the type of repair I needed and his skillset in HVAC repair kept me warm for the holidays. I am so appreciative. I would highly recommend his services to anyone in need of HVAC repair. Thanks again Theo...ever-so-much! And, Happy New Year to you and your family."

"I can not say enough positive about Chris and Chuck and O 2 KOOL!! Chuck came out in early January to look at my old Trane gas furnace .. he got it going with no trouble. Now today ... during our ice/snow armageddon it went out again. I called and Chris FaceTimed with me .. looked at what was up and talked me through how to relight the system myself. Good news .. I now have heat! I strongly recommend them to anyone who needs help with their heating and cooling system! They not only helped, but assured me .. a 60 yr old woman .. everything would be OK and safe. That is a VERY rare quality!"

"The tech was very knowledgeable and skillful. He had to install the new blower fan into the existing fan housing, but he took the existing blower assembly (fan, motor, electrical, and housing) out to his truck in inclement weather to do the work. I offered up my garage, but he said that he would be fine out in his truck. From start to finish it could not have been more than 40 minutes. The blower unit runs and sounds like a brand-new install. Very quiet. Prior to the repair the blower sounded like a freight train passing through the house. Very happy and the cost was reasonable."

"TeamEnoch work quality and cost were the best. Installation Evan and Richard took care everything much better than I expected. I have had American Home Shield who assigned several different contactors to fix my HVACs. Their (AHS contractors) work quality was poor (I would rate them as 2-star the most). I highly recommend TeamEnoch for HVAC work. In fact I will hire them again to install the 2nd HVAC for my house in the near future."

"The reason for the 4 rating and not a 5 is the sales part of the experiences not the technicians and the work done. Larry was the technician for my water heater. I have previously written a review for the AC installment. Larry is amazing. He has a lot of experience but what impressed me more was the fact he was totally honest & cared about my experience as the consumer. I was actually told by one of the salesman that Daniel’s prices are higher than other companies. He was correct. They seem to want to immediately try to sell a new replacement without considering the customers situation. My water heater is only 15 months old but I clearly got a ‘lemon’ and it took 3 major parts to be replaced before it was fixed. The parts were still covered by the manufacturer warranty but the labor was not. After several trips it was fixed and from my conversations with the salesperson I felt he was pushing for me to purchase a new water heater and not really understanding of the fact that I had just replaced my AC and my water heater was only 15 months old. In the end, Larry, the technician, did the right thing. It has been a week now and my water heater is working fine. I appreciate honesty more than anything when dealing with these things. I feel like I got it but it took some extra pushing on my part and a technician who stood by what he said. The owner or rep of owner replied to my previous review on the Daniel’s site. I hope this review gives him the answer to why I have not given 5 stars for either review."

"Shane was quick to respond when I input my needs into Angi’s. Availability was within 24 hours which was nice since my AC refrigeration line was damaged by me and temp outside was hot and humid. Justin was on time and completed the job to my satisfaction (even prepared for working in the heavy rain). I’d recommend All Star Trade Pros."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Yes, it’s important to turn off your AC sometimes to give it a break and prevent it from freezing up. If your AC runs all the time, your system’s parts will wear down quicker, which may mean that you need to replace it sooner. Plus, using your AC constantly uses more electricity and leads to higher energy bills.

There are a few ways to reduce your electricity bills if you use window AC units to keep cool. Set the unit temperature at least 1 degree higher than it is currently to reduce costs. Keep the unit clean for it to run efficiently. You may want to hire a window AC specialist near you to inspect the unit once a year and keep it in tip-top shape.

Window AC units use a fair amount of electricity, but significantly less than central AC systems. Because they are more energy-efficient for cooling individual rooms or small spaces, their usage is comparatively low. On average, a window AC unit consumes between 500 and 1,400 watts, while a central AC system uses over 3,500 watts—meaning a window unit uses about one-third of the energy. This typically translates to a monthly running cost of $15 to $40, although this can vary depending on external factors.

If left untreated, a frozen AC unit can lead to costly damage, especially to the compressor and evaporator coils. When ice forms on the evaporator coils, they become brittle and more susceptible to breaking. Plus, a freeze makes your AC system much less efficient, which means it's wasting energy and costing you more in your monthly energy bills.

A 10,000-watt generator can run a small to mid-sized central AC unit (typically up to 3 tons or 36,000 BTU) along with a few other appliances. However, larger AC units or additional loads will require a bigger generator. Consult a local generator installer to ensure you add the correct size generator to your home.
