The tech showed up, looked at some things, and informed me that I was low on freon. I asked if that was what was causing the failure to cool completely, and the ice on the copper line, and was told, "Yes, definitely."
He added 2 lbs of freon to the system, and AFTER doing this, told me, "You have to find the leak and fix that or adding freon doesn't do any good." Really? Now you tell me - after charging me $270. OK - so he looks further, finds that the leak is in the "master valve" of the outside unit. He quotes me $866 to replace this part, stating the leak in this part can't be repaired w/o replacing it. Also, my inside coil is very dirty, and this will cost $317 to clean (I do not dispute this - the coil was dirty). Tech gives me the quotes, and says if it was his system, he'd replace it with a new system rather than fix these problems. He calls a salesman who came to my house, agreed with him, and quoted me between $6,500 and $8,500 for a new system (mine is about 8.5-9 years old). I told him I need to think about it, and please email me a quote. He did not want to email it, saying he'd rather give the quote in person, but agreed to email the quote due to my work schedule. I never did receive a quote.
I'm no expert in AC, so I called my dad, a retired engineer who worked at Trane for 30 years, and asked his advice - he advised I get a second opinion (since he's out of state and couldn't check it out himself). I called a licensed, independent contractor that I located off a different website, and he agreed to check everything out for his $55 service fee. He came out a few days later and looked everything over. He cleaned the inside coils for $150. He informed me that since I was only 2 lbs low on freon, the leak may be very slow (2 lbs lost in 9 years?) and he thought it would be crazy to replace the master valve ($866), and instead put some loctite on the valve cap (no charge), stating he had fixed multiple minor leaks this way. He opened the outside unit, and informed me that it was obvious no one had cleaned it at all - he showed me that it was inches deep in wet leaves and mud on the bottom, making it impossible for moisture to drain, and my condensor was sitting in this muck (which would eventually cause it to rust out and fail). He cleaned the outdoor unit for $25. Add $55 for the service call, and I spent a total of $230 to fix a problem that Aire Serv had told me warranted a new in AND outside unit - an entire new system, OR that I could spend approximately $1180 to fix (coil cleaning and replace "master valve"). My system is working perfectly, almost a month later. If it fails, I'll update here. Anyway - the contractor took pictures of the outside unit showing it had not been touched when Aire Serv did their tune up. I called Aire Serv and let the dispatcher know I was not happy with the service, and was told to forward pics to the owner, which I did. I called just before 5, and was told "they are reviewing them and will call you tomorrow" (would have been Friday). They didn't call Friday. I waited through Monday, and halfway through Tuesday. After receiving zero response, I called the corporate office of Aire Serv, disgusted. I detailed my problems with the work, and sent details in an email at their request. My complaints, specifically were 1) Non-completion of the tune-up and leaving my outside unit untouched/unchecked. 2) Being charged $270 for freon, and being told before it was added that "that's the problem," without being told there'd be additional costs afterwards for the leak, 3) The assertion that the leak required an $866 repair - and the fact I got it fixed free, and 4) the fact that they tried to sell me a new unit at a cost of several thousand dollars, for a problem that has been fixed for just over $200. They forwarded this email to the owner. A couple days later, the lady from corporate called me back and asked if I'd heard from the owner - I had not, and she expressed surprise, saying she spoke to them and thought they'd have contacted me by now. She then called them, and called me back saying they were mailing me a letter with a $49 refund.
I got the letter 2 days later, with the $49 refund. In the letter from the owner, she acknowledged that the tune up was not done correctly, and informed me that is why they were giving me a refund. However - the letter went on to blame me for not letting Aire Serv fix the problem - without acknowledging that I would NEVER have even known of a problem without calling the other company! Some quotes: "You are right, those (leaves) should have been cleaned out at the time of the tune up, but you did nto call into the office at the time of the service to let us know you were unsatisfied with our work. You called another company out instead. We were never given the opportunity to address the issue and fix it ourselves...." "Our company has a great reputation for taking care of our customers but were not given the opportunity to do so in this situation." I called and spoke to the owner, and tried to explain why I had to get a second opinion before spending several thousand dollars on a new system, as her company recommended. She continued to say, "You should have let us fix it - and couldn't understand at all why I didn't feel I could count on her company after learning they didn't do the work promised (thinking I wouldn't know, because I'm ignorant of this kind of thing - exactly why I called the "other company."
Here's one problem with that logic - I had NO idea your company didn't do the work "at the time of service." I didn't know until I got a second opinion, you know, just in case the first one was incomplete, and to make sure I wasn't getting taken advantage of. Without calling the second company, I cannot see inside my outside unit, and I trusted your tech to do what I paid for. I had no idea he had not done that part of the job until the second company showed proof that the work wasn't done. After I learned of the problem this way - I should have sent the honest service person I hired home, and called you back? If one company does terrible work, it is reasonable to get someone you trust more to fix their mess - I am not obligated to give you a second chance. Second problem - you NEVER addressed the fact that your tech told me that low freon "was definitely the cause of the problem" and put $270 worth of freon in before telling me "it won't help at all if you don't fix the leak." Third problem - you NEVER addressed the fact I was quoted $866 repair for leak repair - and the "other company" fixed this very minor leak as part of a $55 service call. Also not addressed - the fact I was told that due to the high cost of repair, I should go ahead and replace this entire system, and that has proven untrue. I don't doubt that the owner of this company is a good person and many people have received good service from them. I took the time to write this over long review so someone else may look twice before spending way too much for repairs, or replaces a system with years of good use left in it - because that's what would have happened to me if I didn't get a second opinion. It is ALWAYS a good idea to get a second opinion before making a decision of this magnitude, and I'm still annoyed that the owner of this company even now believes I'm somehow at fault in this matter. I'm just glad I didn't make a huge, expensive mistake and take their advice in this case.

Not well, but mostly because she had too many jobs going and did not oversee her people well. Have friends who had good luck with her, and I liked her and really wanted to work with her, but I had lots of problems that they did not take responsibility for. Had to replace carpet because it was ruined day it was installed. She blamed carpet layer and said it was glue, he blamed her and said it was paint. I had to pay to pay to replace carpet. Her guys got grease on another carpet day it was laid. Repeatedly asked that her painters use drop cloths and prep the walls and they did not and got paint all over wood floors which she said she would clean up but I had to. I finally learned I had to be there all day every day and check every little thing and could not get them to fill holes or scrape off extra texture. They stained a floor and then someone walked across it and got boot prints all over it. She blamed floor guy's crew and they said they didn't do it. Had to cover it with carpet. I came in that night and the windows were open and it was raining in. Had to go over every day to be sure they locked doors and closed windows. They set off the burglar alarm four times. I asked them before they started to cover the fire sensors because alarm company said if they did not it would damage them and set off the alarm when they sanded or sprayed. They did not until they left (?) and set off the fire alarm four times (in addition to burglar alarm four times) in two months and the fire truck came because I was not there those times. I asked her to touch up a small area (2 ft X 2 ft) of my stained cabinets to see what it looked like and then I would decide whether to touch up stain or paint white. Came in and guys had done whole kitchen and another room and looked like they had flicked brown paint on it. She fixed it as best she could but you can't see wood grain anymore. I wanted blue paint against a stark white trim and she suggested dover white. When I said the sample card had yellow in it, (and I was having her paint yellow walls because I did not want yellow) she said it would go on whiter and pure white would be too white. The dover white is too yellow and I have since had outside painted the color white I wanted and that is what I wanted inside. Now I have a whole house full of a color I did not want. Her granite guy did a terrible job (and I had LOTS of granite installed) and I am trying to get her to get him back out here. Have had several granite people look at it and he did not polish edges properly and got metal cut lines following the sink lines. There is a big chunk out of the bottom of the overhang of the granite they installed in the wet bar and the edges of that and a 20 foot piece weren't sealed properly. While installing the wet bar and moving a water line they let water leak and it stained my ceiling but she re-painted it. They were supposed to stain my concrete sunroom floor but it appears to be just painted because it is chipping off. They touched it up once but it is still chipping and looks bad. They finished in late Dec or early Jan so it has chipped since then and I don't use the room for anything but plants yet. I had to delay my move date, and reschedule my movers, four times and every time I gave her an extension she took her guys out to another job. To be fair though I did add some things to the original list. I can't even remember everything but there was a lot I was unhappy with. I liked Jennifer and also really liked her young assistant, Alyssa and I would have rated worse except for two things. 1. Jennifer did try to fix some of the things that went wrong, like the cabinets. 2. I had a lot to complain about as we went along and she was not rude. We were able to talk about things and work them out for the most part. I said I would use her again, and she may not want to after this review, because the experiences I have had since have shown me she is not that bad. I will never live in another house that I even have to paint after the experiences I have had since buying this house in February. It started with a terrible inspection job, where they missed tens of thousands of dollars of stuff, and things have steadily gone downhill since then.
Having said all of that, now after using Chuck Colley and Darren Kirby for work on the outside, I think Jennifer did a better job than they have. They have caused me a lot of expense fixing damage their workers caused (about $2400.00 replacing pool tile that was broken off, cleaning concrete off pool coping, and it will never come off my brick) and am having to repaint my sunroom because concrete stained it, had to pay someone $1800.00 to re-grade my yard because concrete people brought bobcat in on saturated ground. Part of that was to lay grass but should not have needed grass except that they killed it because they left stuff all over it for 3 months. They charged me $100 to rent a machine to transplant my grass because I didn't need much but couldn't do it so they charged me an additional $760 for grass and it only covered about half of what they killed. Part of the $1800 was also to power wash my neighbors street where they let concrete run down the street three houses down and around the corner. I repeatedly asked that they clean it up but it was three months before it was done. They laid a patio that was shaped like a and quot;vand quot; and unusable as a patio. They were supposed to drain it the opposite way they drained it and the only reason we did all of the job as one job, instead of waiting until October to build a covered porch with a kitchen and an outdoor pavilion was to install larger drains and tie the downspouts into them. I wanted them to start Jan 2 and wanted them finished by April15 because I had to re do the pool, overlay concrete, etc and wanted to use my pool this summer. If they could not finish by April 15 I told them i wou;ldenlarge the pool area and wait until Oct to do the other construction. But when Mr Colley brought me a contract with $2000 more in his fee in middle Jan, than we agreed I asked why. I did not get a response and talked to someone else to do the job that was going to start Feb 17. Darren assured me they wanted the job and could be finished no later than April 15, 30th at the latest. It is June 23 and they are not finished. They really didn't even do anything but the concrete until after April 15. I talked to Mr. Colley in Jan and made it clear I wanted him running the job, not Darren. However, Mr. Colley let Darren run the job and backed him up when he did not do the patio as I asked and refused to fix it. They did not tie the downspouts into the drains, did not install larger drains, and my gutters have to make four 90 degree turns before they get to a downspout and I have water rushing down a valley and spurting onto the shingles and will ruin them shortly. They say this was the only way it could be done but other builders and concrete and drainage people disagree. Basically Mr Colley turned this job over to Darren Kirby, Darren Kirby did not pay attention and left everything to the subs and I got lousy work and not the job I paid for. I did not even have the head stone layer here when my stone was laid and it cracked immediately. I mean on all sides of the columns, all the way around, in less than a week. They did fix the ones in the pavilion after I sent a certified letter. but Mr. Colley says this is normal and happens on all of his jobs. The stone is not what I wanted either. They totally disregarded what I wanted and did what was easiest, again because Darren didn't pay attention. He comes up with stories to cover every situation, and when one doesn't work he comes up with another one. He doesn't return my calls and says he doesn't get my texts, although he did until I started complaining and everyone else does. Mr. Colley told me to and quot;be sure Darren gets my textsand quot;. How do I do that?

He did that and could see no visual reason. Ran water with no effect. I asked if an old hot water pipe left over from when the house hot water was re-piped several years ago could be a problem and was told no. They left with no resolution and asked that I inspect the open area in the wall after running water in other parts of the house to see where exactly the water was coming from and what was triggering the leak. My husband thought that the leak may have something to do with the a/c drain so as I filled a jug at a small sink in the living room he heard water running in the open wall. We figured out what was happening. An old hot water line had been opened and although it was no longer connected to the "system", the cold water was running through it to the "defunct" pipe that had not been capped off. In order to understand the needs and expectations of our customers, we take great care to work and communicate with every customer in a professional manner. "Ari promised us to complete our project (which included kitchen, guest bath, master bath, laundry room and deck) in 6 weeks. They were done early and we're very pleased with the results. The crew was here almost every day, working on the project. We had a major water issue that soaked the carpet in the master bedroom and Ari was quick to assure us they would replace the flooring in the bedroom. Any issues they encountered were taken care of with no additional cost over what we were quoted up front.
Cabinets and countertops are GORGEOUS! Very, very pleased with the custom pantry they had built for my kitchen!
Our only negative was the language issue as most of the crew didn't speak English. But we were able to communicate well enough to accomplish what was needed.
We would use Finecraft again if we do any further remodeling.

"We were having issues with water retention. After looking over the area, we decided to remove about 4 inches of dirt around the house grading down as it went. This made a moat that emptied into the ditch. We also had two mounds of dirt moved, a decline added to the back porch and an area scraped and leveled for our beehives. Price was fair and work was excellent. "

Landscapers typically charge $25 to $50 per person per hour, which equals around $50 to $100 per hour for a two-person crew. These rates can vary depending on your location, the size of staff needed for the job, and overall job type. For example, a larger crew will be needed for structural additions and hardscaping versus planting flowers.
When it comes to landscapers, licensing laws vary. Landscaping architects are required to be licensed in all 50 states, whereas traditional landscaping contractors are not typically required to hold a certification. You’ll likely be working with a landscaping contractor for most residential projects. If you are redesigning your whole yard or adding in hardscape features, you will work with a landscaping architect at some point during the project. Be sure to check our state licensing tool to review the local landscaper guidelines.

We highly recommend leaving the work of replacing drain pipes to a professional plumber. Drain pipes are a key part of your plumbing system, and making mistakes during the installation or even using the wrong size pipes for your specific fixture can lead to an elevated risk of leaks and clogs. Additionally, drain pipes prevent harmful sewer gas from entering your home, so hiring a professional plumber is essential to keeping the risk of leaks and clogs low and avoid reducing your indoor air quality.
