"Josh & Laura came on a Friday afternoon to begin staining the new wood on our deck extension. They returned Saturday to complete the job. Their work was excellent. They stained our older deck wood to match the new and it is beautiful. They also stained part of our garden house and extra boards for us to fashion a gate for the deck. They work hard and as a team and were very pleasant. Definitely recommend their work!"

"Melvin came out gave me a reasonable bid, and started work the next day. He was very knowledgeable and often great solutions to any problems that came about. He and his crew worked long hard days in the hot sun to complete my fence which covers a double lot. He did such an amazing job that I hired him to complete a deck project for me."

"I have been using this company since July of this year. The yard work itself is satisfactory. The conflict I have is the non-responsiveness from the company. I met the owner/manager the first time they mowed and we agreed on an indefinite contract and rough timeline for when to expect service. After the first experience, which was $120 for them to pull weeds, trim bushes and trees, lay down mulch, and mow the lawn, I have had to call twice to ask for service for fear of the HOA issuing any more warnings. Those two times and each subsequent time I called for one reason or another, I was never able to get a hold of the owner/manager and he never called back. However, he did ensure my lawn was cut as soon as possible after receiving my messages. I wish they could establish a more concrete timeline of when service will be provided so that I can plan on having payment ready for them, I have a better idea of when they will show up to my home, and so that I can rest assured my weeds won't cause me any trouble from the HOA. An app would be just marvelous to track timeline and payment. I still give the company an overall A rating because despite the non-responsiveness, the job still gets done in a timely manner and all the workers have been polite, respectful, and professional.

"We are very pleased with the work completed by SNL. Stephen is very knowledgeable and worked with us to identify the best type of landscaping and trees/plants for our yard. They also installed an irrigation system and put down new sod - our yard looks great! Stephen kept us informed throughout the process and quickly responded to any questions we had and started/completed work when promised. We continue to use SNL for our lawn maintenance and would definitely recommend them."

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

PVC decking can get slippery when wet because it’s made from plastic. However, composite and wood decking can also be slippery when wet. It’s best to wear shoes with grippy soles when walking on a wet deck, no matter the material, and to be extra cautious not to slip and fall down.

You can nail or screw composite decking, but 3-inch decking screws are the better fastener choice. Unlike nails, decking screws won’t back out of the composite material over time. There’s also little danger of splitting composite material when driving screws, so you don’t need to pre-drill holes unless otherwise recommended by your decking manufacturer.

Deck boards should be spaced no more than three-eighths of an inch apart. This is enough space to allow water and small debris to pass through without collecting on the surface, but not enough to create a tripping hazard. Certain materials, like pressure-treated wood, shrink over time, so they may need less space at installation.

Two coats of stain are ideal for the best protection and aesthetic appeal. However, if your decking is made of particularly dense hardwood, you may only need one coat. If you want an intense color, two coats are ideal.

Composite decking may never warp, or it may warp quickly. Several factors can influence the rate of warping, including the material's quality, installation method, and installation location. Generally speaking, high-quality materials that have been installed properly are drastically less prone to warping.
