"Last October, my sister, an elderly veteran living alone, contracted Genie Bath Systems to remodel her master and guest baths. She was diagnosed cancer and passed before the remodel was complete. Which, to be fair as we were not able to work with Genie while attending to my sister. The contract was expensive. Very expensive. The cost of the remodel is close to 1/4th the value of her home. I noticed there were issues with the remodel that showed a surprising lack of attention to detail. Genie sent people to address the issues twice. Yet issues remain. My calls to my contact at Genie are now being ignored. Also, the only document I have for the remodel is the contract my sister signed. It is not detailed. I have and continue to ask for a breakdown of the cost. An estimate or work order. This request is also being ignored. I am disappointed and have to wonder why Genie will not provide this information. I have several other questions for Genie that I will not go into here. But based on my experience, I cannot recommend Genie. In fact I would warn anyone considering Genie to be very careful about the cost of the contract."

Worn-out rubber washers or O-rings are some of the most common causes of a leaky tub faucet. These small rubber parts create watertight seals within the faucet. However, they can deteriorate over time because of mineral deposits and water pressure. If you have a cartridge-style faucet, a cracked or damaged cartridge can also be the culprit. Regular use of the handles wears down these faucet parts, and they eventually start allowing water to seep through and create a drip.

If you notice smells or clogs, you’ll know something’s wrong with your shower drain P-trap or the plumbing. Most of the time, smells and clogs are due to a clogged P-trap. However, in some instances, you may smell sewage. If this happens, open your windows and contact a plumber to help. They can do a plumbing inspection and let you know if anything needs to be repaired or replaced. Common culprits are a dry drain, cracks in the plumbing, or a clogged vent.

If the drain is frozen, the pipes connecting to the washing machine are likely frozen. If the hot water trick doesn’t also unfreeze the washing machine pipes, you can gently apply heat with a hair dryer on the lowest setting. Start at the end of the pipe closest to the faucet to prevent pressure from building in the pipes, and make sure the faucet is open to drain the water as it melts.

In most areas, drain cleaning professionals don’t technically need a license, as they aren’t altering your plumbing system in any way. However, we recommend hiring a drain cleaning professional with a plumbing license and certification. Certified plumbers are more likely to provide professional solutions to drain clogs without damaging your system. Turn on the water to each faucet and check the area for water trickling out from anyplace but the spout. Next, shut off the water and see if there’s any residue which could indicate a worn down rubber seal. If you find any water, you can replace the rubber seal or have a plumber do it for you.
