"They were able to replace the skylight in less than 2 weeks after the quote. They did a good job and make the finish on the inside look good. A few weeks later, there was a heavy rain and my new skylight is no longer leaking like my old one that was replaced."

"I remodeled my condo in Midtown and was extremely pleased with the end results. The contractor, Tony, was responsive to my needs and the work performed was impressive. The remodeling involved; new sheetrock, painting, new carpets, new fixtures, new blinds custom fitted, resurfacing and polishing of tile floors and work was done according to Covid protocols. Tony paid special attention to detail and finishes; the final results was of high-quality. The remodeling was completed in a flexible timeline, consistent with my needs. "I had a good experience with this company in the past for some construction work.. I recommended them to my sister in Woodland for some remodeling work and designing, and the last time I visited her I was surprised at how nice the renovation was in her house. What I like the most about it was the dropped ceiling with the spot lights and the unique colors. I also liked the quality of the hardwood flooring and tile. It was really nice. I will definitely call you soon for some updates in my house and I hope I will receive a good discount. Thanks."

"Dustin was courteous and did a good job on this project. The tree was big, so it was a challenge. He hired a company to come out to pick up the tree debris, and it took them a couple of days to actually pick up the debris, but it was finally taken away. And the work on the roof was great. I'd hire Dustin again. He does the work, and his sweet wife answers the business phone. They're a good team."

Skylights questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can replace a skylight without changing the entire roof—if the roof is in good shape. First, you need to make sure the roof around the skylight is intact and free of damage. Quality installation is crucial to prevent leaks, including replacing the flashing, which seals the skylight to the roof. While replacing the skylight alone is doable, it can make sense to replace both at once to streamline the work, coordinate the warranties, and reduce the risk of future leaks. If you’re unsure, reach out to a professional for help in deciding the best approach.

The most popular treatment for a skylight is skylight shades. There are five primary types: manual, motorized, blackout, cellular//honeycomb, and Venetian. Motorized skylight shades are the most convenient, especially for skylights that are higher up, but manual shades are the most cost-effective treatments. Cellular/honeycomb shades are a perfect option for anyone who wants energy efficiency and an attractive look.

Yes, solar tubes are easier to install than skylights because they’re lighter, smaller, and easier to handle. They also require less roof cutting and have a faster, simpler installation process. This means they’re a more DIY-friendly option for homeowners who want to add more natural light to their homes.

Ceiling costs depend on many factors, such as the material used and size, but coffered ceilings are considered one of the more expensive ceiling options. If you want to install a coffered ceiling but have a limited budget, consider using plywood instead of hardwood—it costs $2–$4.50 per square foot, while hardwood can be as much as $20 per square foot.

Yes, you can add blinds or shades to both roof windows and skylights, but roof windows tend to have more options available. Retractable skylight shades are popular on both options for added privacy, light control, and heat reduction, although they’re more expensive than manually-operated blinds or shades. If you have a roof window or skylight set in a high ceiling, a motorized or solar-powered skylight window covering is probably your best bet.
